Hey guys. You might remember my thread from a while back where I asked for bad books recommendations for my live dramatic reading sessions, and this thread is in the same vein. We just finished My Immortal, and while it was a riot, the last ten or so chapters of the fic were so incomprehensible it became tiresome to decipher it, so we decided to branch out a little and try watching some really bad movies to riff on for a change.

We have actually done a few already in the past, including the first three Twilight movies and The Last Airbender, and I plan on doing Dragonball Evolution this week, but I really don't know where to go from there. I guess we will do the rest of the Twilight series, so it will cover next week, but otherwise I'm out of ideas... and that's where you come into the picture! :p

I would like to ask for the following: I am looking for dumb movies that are not dumb on purpose, nor are they trying to be funny. I want genuinely bad movies with relatively high production values, if possible (no old exploitation flicks as they are pretty damn hard to get around here). Also, I don't really want to get into bad adaptations because, while they can spark absolutely hilarious and engaging discussions if we know the source material (hence why it took us five hours to watch The Last Airbender and three more to discuss it), they generally don't work as well otherwise, and I really don't want to ask the others to read something as massive as Fist of the North Star just to prepare for the horrible live-action adaptation.

Please try your best to recommend some awful movies and thanks in advance. :)

P.S.: Oh, before I forget it: one of the ladies in the group really doesn't like gore, so stuff like Machine Girl and other silly gore-flicks would be a no-no.

I saw a weird movie not too long ago which was supposed to be dramatic, can't remember the name, but made me laugh all the time because of the absurdity. It was about like the every day life of 5 people but they were all extremes in one way or an other but what made it so absurd is that were was no connection between the stories except they were all living in the same area. And some of the scenes were so pointless (literally adding nothing to the movie) I just couldn't help laughing. And the worst part is that the ending was a non-ending. None of the storylines concluded in anyway. The movies just "ended". That made me laugh as well, simply because I knew it would end absurdly like that. Worst part is that i remember checking it out on IMDB and they gave it a 6.7... I would have given it a 4/10 and three of those four points would only be given because it was so bad it made me laugh.

There's of course the new so-bad-it's-now-cult movie: Sharknado.

Yes, that's a tornado full of deadly sharks that attack a small town.

Then there's another classic: Snakes on a plane.

It also became a fast classic as people didn't think it could get dumber than that (it did with Sharknado though).

Lastly, Marlon Brando in The Island of Dr Moreau. Attempting to be a thinking mans flick about playing gene splicing god, it turns out to be Brando and the Muppet Show.

Well, most of the movies that I say are hilariously bad are usually still given high praises (like the Micheal Bay Transformers trilogy), so I'll just go with The Guyver... It has Mark Hamill in it... and you don't even have to know what the movie is based on in order to see just how hilariously bad it can get...

Mortal Kombat: Annihilation

Watching it alone causes thoughts of suicide.

Watching it with friends brings forth the greatest live riff track of your (and their) lives.

Southland Tales. That is a true American classic right there.
Stiffler from American Pie as jesus? Yep. Justin Timberlake music video? Oh yeah. Two cars fucking on screen? You better believe it.
Not only that, the movie has every single c-list actor you can think of. And they are all awful. Couple the acting with a script that could only be made under the influence of many, many drugs and you have some gold on your hands. Also, it has refreshingly good cinematography, which is unusual for a movie this bad. Couldn't recommend it more.

the King of Fighters - 2010 - as a fan of the games, this movie is horrendous, otherwise it is really stupid, not sure if too much humor can be made out of it, but they put on ear pieces to fight in virtual reality, and there's a scene where the main bad guy is skating around on roller blades just for the hell of it, no reason, it's just there.

seconded on Mortal Kombat Annihilation - 1997 - is horrible, the humor is having it even exist as a sequal to a fairly decent Mortal Kombat movie. When the CGI attacks it is laughingly bad. Bonus there's a girl on girl mud fight, because MORTAL KOMBAT!!

Alone in the Dark - 2005 - perhaps? Bad CGI, bad acting, bad story, bad movie. Uwe Boll.

Elektra - 2005
Battlefield Earth - 2000
Next - 2007 - I might be slightly mean listing it along with these other movies, but I think it earned its spot

seconding Snakes on a Plane - 2006 - I can't remember if there's any gore in it though

Street Fighter The Legend of Chun Li - 2009 - just a terrible movie

Batman and Robin - 1997

Batman and Robin is a lot of fun if you just want to pick it apart. Campy but by no means gory, so your friend shouldn't have too much of an issue. It's an adaptation of Batman, but it probably won't cause too much discussion of the source material, since it is nearly unrecognizable as the Batman that most people think of. Jack and Jill (Adam Sandler, I think) should suit you too, if you want something more recent. Also, Manos: the Hands of Fate is legendarily bad.

A lot of old crappy kids movies become fertile ground for this stuff too. I know this because I watched a bunch of crappy old kids movies as a kid. Try Baby Geniuses, Blank Check or Son Of the Mask(again, has source material, but said source material is a hardly known comic book with a completely different tone).

Have fun!

inb4 The Room

Oh, and my choice is The Room :p

Seriously, that movie is comedy gold in terms of so bad its good. Just watch this for 30 seconds and see if it sparks your interest.

Also, you said the first Twilight film and while ya, its a bad film, there is a LOT worse out there. I mean there are a shit ton of movies off the top of my head, I mean there are a LOT LOT LOT of movies that have come out in the last month that are worse than that. Can't speak for the sequels, never saw them but I hear those are so bad they're good from a few people.

"Enthiran" or "The Robot" is the most expensive Bollywood movie ever and is the definition of so bad it's good.

I'll add Birdemic (both of them) in. It's supposed to be The Birds crossed with An Inconvenient Truth, but it's known for being non-acting crossed with awful pacing crossed with even worse CG (the titular birds appear to be GIFs) crossed with a $10,000 budget crossed with a complete lack of effort and understanding of film-techniques from everyone involved. Because of all this and many other terrible elements (such as two out-of-nowhere speeches about global warming and a lack of an ending), it's absolutely hilarious (and the entire film's on Youtube!).

Thanks guys. The problem is that most of our group watches shows on TGTWG, so most of these wouldn't be a surprise... Oh well, thanks nevertheless, I will try to work something out. Maybe the on-the-spot riffing and the company will compensate for the lack of shock value... :)

xXx 2 or xXx: State of the Union or Triple X Two or whatever you want to call it.

Mainly because it tries so hard to convince everyone that it is so much better than the (mediocre and dumb, but still somewhat enjoyable) first movie. Wich is especially funny with Ice Cube as the protagonist, who tries to be the baddest MoFo around, but ends up looking MoPey most of the time.

Also there is a climax that excessively uses CGI on the Level of the cutscenes from the Final Fantasy Games for PS1, maybe worse. It looks incredibly goofy in live action.

WRONG. So wrong! Jon Lovitz is in there and probably gives the weirdest and most awesome performance in his career. (Also love the Rock as a panicking nervous wreck).

Other than that, i agree. I regret selling my DVD because i never thought i wanted to see this excessive, pretentious and convoluted piece of shit again, but i eventually realized that a mess this sprawling and odd is actually quite unique and beautiful in its own horrible way.

It's a tornado... of sharks...?

............

Who in their right mind comes up with that? Comprehending it is making me dumber by the minute. Sounds hilarious :D

OT: Going along with the whole shark-thing, I'm gonna have to go with Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1350498/

Why are so many shark movies so bad?

There might be a hair more gore than your friend is ok with but I'm still gonna suggest Lockout. The one liners and puns are spine tingling bad. And the CGI... Oh god, the CGI. I would buy this movie just to have it and play it at parties and shit, but I think it would cause me physical pain at the cash register.

This is a pretty good representation of the entire film.

Here is MovieBob's assessment...

Oh man, "The Manitou" immediately springs to mind.
I cant even properly explain it, it's bat shit crazy, a little genuinely creepy, and absolutely silly.

I liked Batman and Robin. I has two major advantages over Batman Forever, in that it had neither Jim Carey nor Nicole Kidman.

I'd say the original Gamera films. Not flat out bad, but very dated and often very silly.
