36 inch SD CRT here and I love it. It'll last me a good many number of years so I see no particular reason to upgrade, though I will admit that HD's do look a little nicer.
Because upgrading to a 36" HDTV isn't that expensive...

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LN32C350-32-Inch-720p-Black/dp/B0036EH186/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1280446846&sr=8-7

Here is a 32" Samsung HD LCD for only $399

HDTVs have been out for years why not upgrade they are not expensive and they do enchance the video game playing experience.
Because I would rather devote that money to my savings accounts and IRA when I don't *need* to spend it and my television more than suits my purposes as they are. It's kind of like having a nice blue shirt and then buying the same blue shirt for a hundred dollars more because it has a logo on it and is shimmery. It's prettier, sure, but it does basically the same thing in the end. :)

Of course I do! And I listen to the wireless every night before I got to bed... oh hold on a sec, I think I just got a telegram. /sarcasm

I'm pretty sure everyone I know has replaced their TVs. Even my grandparents have! I got mine when the PS3 came out because I didn't see the point of having Blu-ray and HD games without one.

That's what I thought too but once I went HD I could never go back, the difference is so huge...

I'll never forget how happy I felt the first time I saw The Capital Wasteland in full widescreen HD :)
My friends have HD widescreen sets as well, and I just never really noticed a difference. Chances are I really won't until I see a side-by-side comparison.

Thats true. I can tell the difference in a side-by-side, but when I'm watching a show or a movie or am playing a game, I don't think about the video quality. SD and DVD is good quality, or at least good enough for me.

If $400 is a large amount of money to you, you might want to look for a new job that pays higher than minimum wage. Or even get two jobs.

I still do unfortunately. I'll get around to picking up an HD television one of these days.

Nope. I upgraded to HD when I left the Army in 2007. I don't plan on going back.

That said, I will have to suffer a temporary downgrade here in the near future, from my current 40 inch screen to a mere 23 inch screen as I've opted not to take my TV when I move to my new University in the fall and will instead use my computer monitor.

I played on an SDTV till about 2 months ago when I inherited a 32" HDTV. It's amazing, but it ruined my PS2 games, so I have another TV hooked up not far away.

I've heard the component cables can do wonders like on the Wii. Will it be enough of a difference that I can play my PS2 on the HDTV? I'd love to see Metal Gear Solid 3 or Devil May Cry 3 on the bigger screen!
No it will not make a big enough difference. And quite frankly is a waste of money to hook it up that way. At best, if the game supports it, 420p will be the best resolution.

WHAT? $400 is a lot of money and that is a special offer from Amazon with $100 off. Even then, that is for only a 720p resolution screen which is pretty basic. Surely there is a better offer than that.
Money is not entirely relative, $400 is a lot of money no matter what (your parents ever teach you the value of a dollar?). If you're going to get a HDTV, if should be a group investment (family, group of friends) and at least be in 1080p. If it is just for you a fare better approach is a 1080p computer monitor of around 24 inches, that's perfect for an individual user.

Ignore mrpmpfan, he doesn't know what he's talking about:

Connecting your PS2 via component to your HDTV will allow your PS2 to show it's full potential.

Though PS2 doesn't pump out many pixels, only 480i though some games support 480p which can ONLY be reached with component-cables.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_2_games_with_HD_support

Colour will be much nicer as the analogue signals are separated by colour so they don't blend into each other. Really, if you want to keep plying your PS2 then get component cables for a HDTV.

but it won't change the actual native resolution, MGS3 will still be rendered at only 480 vertical resolution which just is not all that much detail. But there will be less interference and could enable 480p which will make it look better.

Also to note: your HDTV may just have a terrible scaling algorithm (up from 480p to 720p or 1080p), that may be solved by switching to component cables.

Although HD is indeed better than traditional, not all of us are shallow enough to buy a massive expensive one as soon as possible.

I have an SDTV.
Saving money for an HDTV though. Right now, all my money is going towards college, so my saving is VERY slow.

I don't mind my SD, it has been very good to me and will continue to be good to me until I find a replacement for it.

Also this!

I HATE when I can't read the darn text on games. Makes me a sad panda.

This, pretty much. I don't have a huge problem with the text, but it could definitely be bigger.

Yup, still play on a SD TV and it's the primary excuse why I won't become a full fledged console gamer in the forseeable future. I never watch TV in my freetime and for the price of a good TV and a console I can either build a new computer or boost the one I already have.

Not that I don't want one of course. Uncharted 2 in HD.... *drewl*

Yeah I'm still using an SDTV.Don't see the need to upgrade because

a)My 360 and Wii games look perfectly fine on an SDTV
b)I'd rather spend what little spare cash I have on games than a new tv

Yes, christ. I'm so poor that I can't afford a freaking console from THIS GEN let alone a TV to go with it. Man, i need to get me some graduation-action.

If you want HD but a HDTV is too expensive, consider a computer monitor of HD resolution:

http://www.amazon.com/ViewSonics-VA2231WM-22-Inch-Widescreen-Speakers/dp/tech-data/B003L0Y9FI/ref=de_a_smtd

It's not the ideal solution, and the only inputs are VGA and DVI, which can lead to a lot of cable switching and for example you need a HDMI-to-DVI cable for PS3, and a VGA cable for Xbox 360 or Wii (PS2 will likely need a Component-to-VGA switch-box). Also, you will have to settle for headphones or external speakers. And of course it has no TV signal receiver, it's only 21 inches... but 1080p for only about $160, that's something.

In which case, more fool you. I refuse to upgrade to HD until it is absolutely necessary.
