Yea, nothing more makes me take a person seriously than something meant for children who don't understand the simple concept of shoe tying. Get real shoes.
But what's the point of tying your shoes if there are better alternatives?
You're only holding people back by saying "well, efficiency is for KIDS!". It makes no sense! If it's faster and more convenient, why the hell should you use something inconvenient just because the general population regards it as "real shoes"?
Laces are annoying. You can trip over them, they take more time to tie: they're just generally inconvenient.

I wear it because it's easier to find a middle ground where my shoes stay on, yet I don't have to undo anything to get out of them.

It's also more hygienic. How many times I saw my shoelaces touching the wet floor of a public stall... With velcro you don't have to put up with this shit.
I could see this as a problem for the immunosuppressed, but as a person with a working immune system I have to ask: Why the fuck should I care?
What do you mean?! It's other people's piss... on your hands (potentially)! And it's not just piss, oh boy, let me tell ya.
Would you feel okay to eat a shit soup if it was boiled?
So my point is, don't wear shoelaces, it's like eating shit soup (that would make an awesome slogan for the velcro people).

Now if you'll excuse me, it's time for me to get desinfected so I can go back to my bubble.

Because society has an aesthetic and if you want to be taken seriously as a man, take the extra 5 seconds it takes to lace up your shoes. Yea, I know, it sucks that your convenient technology makes you look about as respectable as a senile man but in the real world you have to subscribe to more than just efficiency.

There's a stigma? I wear velcro shoes because I can't be bothered with laces most of the time, unfortunately I walked through the bottom of my nice velcro shoes a few weeks ago so I'm stuck with laces at the moment.
I'll never understand people who wear shoes until they're broken. That's insane, looks lazy and is embarrassing.
If I like a pair of shoes, I'm going to get all the use I can out of them.
The only reason somebody should do that is because they can't afford it, and in that case I still find myself fully justified in mocking them.
I can afford new shoes, but why would I when I have a perfectly good pair that is just getting a bit worn? If you want to mock me for that, that is up to you. I will respond by pointing out the hole if your wallet from buying all those new pairs of shoes.
I'll in turn point out how much more suave and approachable I look because I'm not cheap.

What, the tard shoes?

I kid, I kid.
Seriously, though, I only own cowboy boots. I don't have any of the issues you mentioned above, and I save one more step than you do. And they don't look ridiculous.
Unless you're an actual, factual cowboy, then yes. Yes they do look ridiculous.

In high school we called the two year Algebra class "Velcro shoes math"...Just sayin'. I also agree with the sentiment that loafers are the go-to shoe for lace haters. For more casual events, laceless boat shoes.

As someone who was slow in learning to tie his shoes and wears sandals, I'd have to say I'm rather fond of the fastener.

Very well. I will counter by stating that I come across as more genuine because I am not particularly worried about my appearance.

Yea, because you know nothing turns people on more than being unattractive when you call it "genuine". But unfortunately this isn't an after-school special and the world doesn't run on idealism.

I have been wearing Lacostes velcro shoes for the last 2 years now and I love them. They look good and are very convenient.

Velcro shoes don't make me think of kids (slip on shoes do that) Velcro makes me think of very very old people like half the people in nursing homes wear them.

As far as judging people wearing them. It just projects a certain level of laziness and lastly every velcro shoe I've seen on adult has been ridiculously ugly. Sorry super smart objective people but human beings judge on appearance.

The only reason it isn't respectable to wear Velcro, is because people like you say so. I know there will always be people subscribing to the "velcro is for kids"-thing, but the only way to shift the majority to the other side of the argument, is to act respectable, wearing Velcro.
This does, of course, not only go for Velcro, but it's a good example.

Aesthetics aren't fair but they're here. I'm only 16 so I'm not required to wear suits and what have you on a regular basis but I can accurately comment on the fact that wearing velcro makes you undesirable as a sexual partner, life partner and employee unless you're well connected or in a job that doesn't require you to be seen by people with taste.

However, "taste" is decided by the mass majority, giving society an aesthetic. This aesthetic can be easily changed.
And, then again, why should I care about this aesthetic? Is the first thing people see whether I use velcro or shoelaces?

Yes, actually. You can tell a lot about a person by their shoes. If the shoes are dirty, scuffed then you can tell the person is lazy. If they keep them until they have holes in them you can assume that they care little for their appearance, are slothful and have no regard for subscribing to the basic normalcies of life.

I'm not used to seeing them, so they seem... unauthentic? There's classic styles and then there's the alternative with velcro and it just looks kind of tacky, but the person wearing them matters more anyway so my mind could change. *shrugs*

Would you wear them?

Some people don't want to contribute more than necessary to landfill and sweatshop labour, fall for ads that promote the wasteful throwaway attitude that drives exploitative economies, and waste their money on attracting superficial skanks.

I used to sort through copious amounts of shoes that got donated to second-hand shops, so many of which we had to throw out one was missing, or ship back to the poor people who probably had to make them in the first place because western standards are too high. People really do have too many shoes. It's disgusting how people emotionally manipulate others into buying shit they don't need because of this culturally ingrained notion that self-respect has to equal consumption.

Don't get me wrong, there are ugly shoes out there, but worn doesn't equal ugly.

That's nothing but shallow judgment. If someone judges me only by how my shoes look, and if I use velcro, that's not someone I'd like to know.
Think about it this way: The minority play games like Baldur's Gate, Mass Effect, the list goes on. Does this tell something about the person? Yes. Does this mean you should judge them only by this? No.
The same goes for shoelaces and velcro: The mass majority wears shoelaces. Does this mean people shouldn't wear velcro? No, it doesn't.
People should play the games they like, and wear the shoes they like, without having to be afraid of being judged by shallow morons.
