To be fair. I think female gamers have a lot to be annoyed about. I was pretty taken aback by the new Ivy model in Soul calibur 4. I mean I love tits but jesus, it's a bit OTT.
I just don't think this game is an issue.
The more torpedo-like Taki's breasts became, the less I enjoyed playing. But back to the point at hand.

What I find most interesting about both the original post and one she links to in her follow up is their immediate assumption that no-one is going to want to rescue the princess because she's fat, a concept I see present nowhere in the game. Her fatness is to make it harder to rescue her, so any reluctance to save her stems from innate difficulty, not from a repulsion to fat folk. The intent and reaction would be the same if the game was Princess With An Anvil Chained to Her Leg or Princess Covered in Bacon Grease.

Her attractiveness (or lack thereof), a major sticking point for both blog posts, is irrelevant to the gameplay. The entire point of the game is to rescue the princess, so that's what we're going to do, no matter what she looks like. Peach is annoying as hell, but we're still rescuing her sorry ass all these years later, right? What, you think we're doing that because she's a size two? Give me a break.

Apparantly there will be both male and female cartoon characters saving the princess, most likely because of the customization.

Good ole' wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fat_Princess

could be wrong though as it is Wikipedia.

Though what i want to know is if the princess can get killed if she's out of the castle. If that can happen then OH BOY i'll just be waiting for the FOX NEWS Headlines.

Way to get upset over nothing. Wonder why no one threw a fit when a similar scenario occurred in Hanzel and Gretel. Oh wait, that was a boy.

If a person chooses to complain over this particular issue in a game, he or she has got a long way to go in order to cover all the feminist, racist, discriminating and otherwise offensive issues "hidden" in video games.

Super Mario Bros? Classic feminist issue with a helpless princess.

Banjo-Kazooie? The protagonists little sister gets kidnapped and the game is lost if she turns ugly.

Dead or Alive? All girls are slim, busty women wearing revealing clothes. Way to discriminate against.. Well, women for being made purely as "eye-candy".

Honestly though, what little Melissa needs to understand, is that logic also works in video games. If you eat nothing but cakes and ham, you turn into an obese monstrosity. It's not science, and it's not offensive.

Eventually, they'll get so torpedo-like that they'll explode on impact. ;)

I think that game is adorable and also think 'what a clever idea'. I'm tired of the feminist/sexism police and im a chick, chubby, and happy. If the game was flipped over and you had a rescue a once-thin-now-fat prince, would we have you guys moaning, complaining and protesting about it? I think not.
Thank you. And yes, there'd be a bunch of memes created on /b/ about how fat the Fat Prince is. I imagine the same will happen anyway, but about how fat the Fat Princess is. We might even get some photoshopping done of Angry McBlogface, putting her into the game.

I've seen profanity on the boards, so I hope my next line doesn't offend the mods.

Jesus Fucking Christ.

You know what this is? This is an issue that human society collectively has. Not a problem. Not a quirk. A full-fledged fucking issue. And it comes in two parts. (DISCLAIMER: Not everybody falls into this trap, but a great many do.)

Part 1- Society inculcates a collective belief about what is 'positive' in its members. You know it's true. And body image is only the tip of the iceberg. Material Status. Patriotism. Mental Health. From a very young age, many of us are fed society's bullshit about what is and is not 'good' in its members, and those who don't conform with that viewpoint are labeled 'flawed'. And that's disquieting, if not downright disgusting.

Part 2- We buy it. This is a logical by-product of the first part, and it's perhaps more tragic because of that. We allow society to define the desirability of nearly all aspects of ourselves. Some have the courage to break free from that mold and define for themselves what is positive. A great many do not, and by doing that they are practically condemning themselves to NEVER being happy with the person that they are. That's a long dark road to travel.

But don't despair! There's a cure, my friends. Stop taking this crap so seriously!!! I mean, really, you've seen how society operates these days. It's completely schizophrenic! So why in the name of Kratos' soiled loincloth are we allowing it to dictate our supposed 'standards'? Instead, we should live our lives the way WE wish, and mercilessly mock society for it's idiocy and short-sightedness.

On that note, carry on, my fellow posters. Society isn't going to tar and feather itself, you know. :)

You mean you never pulled off that special move?

Seriously though, this game looks like plain silly fun, it doesn't look like its meant to be offensive or unsulting, especially if the princess is as unrealistically and comically fat as she looks.

That chick in the first link must really have some confidence issues if she's getting all up in arms over a game which isn't even making fun of fat people. The game is just saying that the fat of the Princess is an obstacle to overcome.....There is a life lesson in there, somewhere.

The trouble is that some people aren't interested in life lessons which involve the idea "Eat Less Cake".

I'd love to hear of a condition that spontaneously makes you a fatass.
Praeder Willis Syndrome. I'd advise against making such rash judgements
What judgement? I asked a question and you answered it, although not quite: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prader-Willi_syndrome

The syndrome is characterized "by hyperphagia and food preoccupations, as well as small stature and learning difficulties."

Still doesn't sound like it spontaneously makes you a fatass. Just makes it easier.

There should be some kind of rule against angry fat girls blogging. They just look for reasons to be angry at everybody and feel like victims.

What am I supposed to do? Apologize to her because she's fat?

I don't think I hate anything more than somebody who is proud they are fat. Agreed?

Fat people whining about the prejudice they face is pretty annoying, as is blog ranting. But in this instance, the fat whining and blog ranting have converged, which is like "crossing the streams." Catastrophic.
