Neutral, really. You get people acting like the Escapist is some kind of haven for sensible people, that the userbase is generally more intelligent than what you'd normally find, but quite evidently, that's not true. People are as stupid here as they are anywhere else.

Personally I don't feel it's in bad taste. Did pac-man have an eating disorder? Did burgertime convince the youths of the world to consume excess cheeseburgers? So what if your fat? If it was that big of a personal issue, you would take steps to change it, either through physical or medical, you can change if you wanted to.
Personally, I like my gravy tank, in all its giggly goodness.

Hey, I tried to take this topic somewhat seriously. But the is The Internet. Should have known that wouldn't work. 
Knowing about the game helps to prevent misconceptions. To non-gamers whose life is already pretty hard because of other aspect of social discrimination though (I assure you, us uglies have it much tougher than those blond beauties), life is "bad" (relatively) enough that they would want to take it out on the world. It's like a physical manifestation of being emo--you feel neglected because you spend Friday nights alone, watching TV while your roommate is out getting laid. Not fun, and most people would rather blame someone else for it.
Someone people take it quite seriously though.. this girl I know went out and lost a dozen lb right after I didn't make a move on her. I actually thought she was cute. I just didn't think it was right to take advantage of a drunk person.
