Link saves princess from Ganon. There's a sword who's also a chick or something. You fight bosses at the end of dungeons using weapons acquired from said dungeon. Sigh...

Zelda is cool and all and the art direction looks nice for a Wii game, but great cthulhu I am sick and tired of the Zelda formula. Don't get me wrong I loved Majora's Mask, Link to the Past and Phantom Hourglass, but it just starts to lose its appeal over the years.

Give me a game where I'm Linebeck or Ganon or ANYONE ELSE and we'll talk.
From what I've heard the pace and story of Skyward Sword is very different to Twilight Princess. There's no Ganon for starts, you dont actually come from some forest town, you come from the sky and there is lots of new characters ans side storylines. Gameplay wise the formula has differed quite a bit. Dungeons arent really self contained places, they merge with the overworld. Also, the difficulty of past Zeldas has come back, any enemy hit now takes one whole heart away! Which means you will have to use strategy in fights.

I haven't even played Twilight Princess yet. Not much of it, anyway. Needless to say, I'll be waiting on this one. A while.

While I personally do not care for reviews, any review that gets a perfect 10/10 makes me wonder if the game also included a little extra "green" included in the box they sent to GameInformer.

As mentioned multiple times in the post, GI seems to have a rating system 7-10/10. Its very rare that I see a game with <7 score in GI.

Well including Ganon would be a bit problemetic since nintendo said skyward sword is before OoT in the timeline. Since Ganondorf was born a few years before OoT started (in the Geruda thief population). Since Vaati's beginning has been explained in Minish cap that will probably not be the enemy either(though there has been some speculations the gray haired character might be vaati).

It would be nice if they made a game that made sense of all the other games and the timeline. I do hope that the creature in the last trailer is a windfish that may finally link Link's awakening to something.

Do not mention the timeline, we'll be here all day.

I don't care. Game reviews, as I've stated before, are somewhere between useless and lacking in useful purpose. My personal experience is likely not reflected in a single arbitrary number.

And what about EDGE? They also gave it a 10/10

Eh, it's Zelda.
That should be a compliment.

Zelda is as big of a part of Sword and Sorcery video games as The Elder Scrolls. If not more so since it's older, and one of the biggest and most import retro games of the video game revival era. The influence and importance of Zelda is far reaching. The Elder Scrolls started in 1994, and so is fairly new to the gaming scene, and not nearly as influential I would say.

So I dare say, a name like Zelda, Ultima, or Wizardry commands respect.

Furthermore, they're not a name that has fallen from grace like Final Fantasy or Sonic the Hedgehog. When hearing Zelda, quality should come to mind. A classic that has aged well should come to mind. Furthermore, Shigeru Miyamoto should come to mind, a man who has done nothing but good for the games he has put his hand into and is a walking game seal of quality. The man is a living video game legend that commands respect.

And henceforth, it shouldn't be surprising at all that this game has garnered such a rating. I haven't yet played it yet, but I'm sure it deserves it.

I know review scores don't really mean much, but how excited are you? I can't wait for this game but with Skyrim coming out just before it, i may have to hold out for a bit. So have you pre ordered it? Do you care? are you neutral? Let us know!
I'll buy a wii for this game... one day.

Not this year though.

I have a friend who reviews for Japanese game sites who's also a huge Zelda fan. According to him, Skyward Sword is the best Zelda game Nintendo has made. Better than Ocarina of Time.

Game Informer has a review system that consists of throwing darts at a wall that only has the numbers eight through ten printed on it. And since Game Informer's staff is comprised of several stroke victims that were born with half of their brain missing, I wouldn't really take this review to heart without eating an entire tower of salt.
Damn. That's cold.
Damn. That's true.

Seriously....I hate their reviews....Its a MEH game it gets a 7! The game has to be really bad and come with a cat urine sprayer and ballpuncher controller for it to recieve a score lower then 7.
Allow me to pile onto the band wagon. I am very suspicious. There is no such thing as a bad Zelda game, but 10/10 is Ocarina, LttP. Unless they take the series in new and interesting directions I will refer you to the ZP review of the previous iteration.

Plus I don't like the art style, just to be petty.

Remember when Game Informer was considered, by a pretty large group, to be a worthless magazine that offered inflated and ridiculous scores?

Did that go away because it's Zelda, or do all their scores have credibility now?

So you're saying that Zelda is for kids? How so? It's classic gaming at its best.

Have you played it yet? I don't think so. Reserve your judgment until it's released, and then you can say stuff.

This game is above Skyrim for me. And Batman. And Saint's row 3. And if Portal 2 weren't out yet it'd probably be above that too.

That's how fucking hyped I am for this game. I liked Twilight Princess, but it was missing something. A lack of originality, perhaps, but it didn't flesh out its world enough, sidequests were few and far between, towns were dull and lifeless, combat as always was really easy.

From the videos I've seen so far, combat has been made much more skillful, needing careful directional strikes instead of wailing on the controller, with each hit from enemies also taking off a full heart, which is suitably punishing. The world looks bright and vibrant, with a really distinctive style and it has many new weapons, the lifeblood of the Zelda series. The characters are expressive, not to same extent as Wind waker by any means, but its got its own flavour, and I can dig that.

Nintendo have always been great to awesome in the Zelda series, so I don't think I'm gonna lose either way, but I'm getting a feeling with this one, it'll be something special. Maybe the best since Majora's.

now i will eventually get this game and probably love it..

but where are the super explosive artsy kids screaming there is no such thing as a game getting a 10/10?

they explode on every other review score thread that gets a 9 or 10...

OT: this requires the wii controls from what i've seen, so i will probably pass on it for a year or two..maybe if it gets gamecube control updates i'd consider it sooner but until my backlog runs dry i unfortunately won't be giving this a runthrough.

I'm sure this game will be good or at the very least adequate but I tend to have a problem with Game Informer, IGN, all of those guys giving games perfect scores when they aren't perfect. I think Games that get over a 7 should go above and beyond a run-of-the-mill games and perfect 10s should go to games with no flaws or at the very least tiny flaws that get drowned out by the overwhelming amazing quality of the game. It seems reviewers are really quick to give franchise games, big name games, and popular upcoming games perfect or high scores almost as if the scores are based more on demand than on the actual content and value of the game.

I actually read GI quite a bit and while most of the time their reviews are agreeable in my eyes, some games gets shafted while others receive praise for being the same shit, different day. Also, for people saying review scores from GI under 7 don't happen, they're not actually too rare. My problem is that when a game DOES get under a 7 they say barely anything positive about it most of the time when a 5 should technically be average. It seems like they often consider anything under a 7 to be just varying degrees of shit unworthy of your purchase.
