I guess I don't understand why these guys are considered the good guys and Sony is evil? Because Sony is big and suing people, so they must be evil and it is geo right to be able to hack shit and post how to hack it online, therefore he is a hero. And now Anonymous and some sort of lolcat hackers are taking up arms against Sony for suing a fellow hacker? How is the honorable? That seems like terrorism. It just seems to me that everyone in this situation has dirty hands.

I don't know, maybe I'm missing something.

*I know geohot isn't the same later hackers, quit correcting me.

**before you quote me to tell me geohot was hacking honorably, he isn't anon, or really anything else, this thread is 5 pages long, and my questions have been answered.

You aren't missing anything at all. The hackers are not heroes but rather assholes who need to leave their mothers basements and get a life. Honestly Sony defends its hardware and suddenly their the bad guys? Go screw yourselves hackers, if I want to play a game, you don't have the right to take that away from me.

I don't have a playstation, so I don't really have a dog in the race so to speak, I'm just trying to figure out what is going on.

The thing is, by supporting Anonymouse and Geohot, these people are trying to slide into their Che Guevara fantasy, and pretend that they are fighting against an overarcing conspiracy to deprive them of basic rights, meanwhile ignoring the fact that Guevara was very little more than a mass murding terrorist.

Let us not forget, either, that these people are, for the most part, hypocrites. "Fuck Sony!" But, they own every God of War game, and will be happy to download the free shit from the PSN Store, when it gets back up fully. "Fuck EA!" While having pre-orders down on Madden and the next Dragon Age. These are the same people who ***** and moan about capitalism online.... on their iPads..... at Starbucks.

Rex, this never had anything to do with Sony "defending its hardware." The hardware was never the issue. Sony was defending its software.

This absolutely. Let's not forget as well that Sony lost a lot of people's private information to hackers as well during this whole sordid affair, certainly not the actions of any group I'd bother to call heroic. As I understand it, they were trying to make a point, but the effect their scheme had on innocent gamers undermines and destroys any altruistic intentions they may have had, however misguided.

In short, find 'em, book 'em and let the world get on with it's gaming.

My support for Sony never wavered through this. The hackers and Geohotz are douchebags and deserve whatever (if anything) they'll get.

Geohotz would have been fine in modding his console if he didn't try to use it to affect his PSN and/or distribute the code online. That's something you just don't do, regardless of the company.

They're not heros. They're a bunch of assholes with nothing better to do. All they're doing is ruining it for those of us who simply wish to play an online game on the PS3.

Jerks.

hey while you might be trying to make a point you are the one that brought up Che Guevara.

Geohot is not in the same moral area as the hackers of sony and the hackers of sony are not even in the same ballpark as anonymous.

mostly all anonymous does is DOS attacks via botnets.

Geohot allows consumers to be able to make full use of of products they purchase. by most online denizens hacking of that sort has always been morally considered ethical and the methods taken to prevent by companies unethical.

the people attacking Sony are not probably not Anonymous (their skill levels are in a completely different ball park) and the web postings we see of people claiming to be them are probably a smoke screen or simply put up by someone who is affliated enough to know what is going on but not part of the operation.

as i said before in another post "there are hackers and there are hackers and there are hackers"
Anonymous is whoever wants to call themselves anonymous, that's the problem with not having a name or leadership they can never say that none of their members did it.

You aren't missing anything, these are just assholes who are doing it for the "lulz"...they actually said that to, they want to make people laugh and when people tell them they are being douches they pull out the "UMADBRO" stuff

They're not treated as heroes. Sure Sony overreacted to the Geohotz thing and have kinda been running some poor practices for a while now. But ask a random selection of people who know even a little bit about this issue and I bet around 8/10 of them would like all the haqckers to die in a fire at this point, or at least to shut the fuck up.

Agreed. Give me a sec. *roots around his house for a second comes back with a 12 gauge, cocks it* Thank God for America! And you know the whole 'right to bear arms' thing. By the way when you said 'book em' you did mean 'shoot' right?

3 Things.

1. Geohot =/= hackers and while you can still think he is wrong it is a different issue.
2. I have yet to see anyone be glad at the hackers let alone call them heros.
3. People can still be mad at Sony for its failures, that doesnt magicly make them on the hackers side.

Stop being so black and white about it.

They're really only heroes in their own mind. If one wanted to start a petition against Sony and not go off on a belligerent hacking streak, then they would be more heroic looking.

A little bit the same way as the grass is blue and the Moon is made of cheese: not.

It's just people making a general nuisance of themselves to stroke their own ego or because of some misplaced sense that they're doing the right thing.

You're not missing much.

The hackers are not heroes to anyone. They're just waiting for the hammer to fall. They fight for nothing, they believe in nothing, and they accomplish nothing. Everyone who is hacking Sony is a criminal, not a vigilante hero of anything. They're just a bunch of impotent and childish irritants who think they're hot shit.

As for Geo, he's just sort of...there. He just wanted to mod his PS3. And I really don't care about that issue one way or the other.
