Call me crazy, but I always had somewhat of a soft spot for these kinds of songs.

I was kind of raised on popular music myself. I remember being driven back home from school listening to these songs. Good times...

I can understand A Thousand Miles for exactly the same reason. Same goes for Lady Antebellum and the such.

As for other atrocities? I like some[footnote]"Some" equals like more than one song.[/footnote] of David Guetta, Flo-Rida, Kanye West, Ne-Yo Ellie Goulding, Example, Roll Deep, Usher and some of Diddy-Dirty Money. You may kill me now.

I'd say I've got a pretty varied taste in music. The closest I've got at the moment to sticking to a genre is the fact that I've become really fond of electronic music.

As I love both Hip-Hop and Classical Romantic Piano of the 19th Century, my tastes probably don't adhere to those of many around here, but I'd consider it decent taste - if there is such a thing.

The two seem somewhat contrary, but they provide a nice buffer off each other.

No, no, completely! I never understand people who just listen to the same genre all their lives. I have one friend who only really listens to british pop/rock of the 60/70s and completely ignores any efforts to introduce him to anything new.

I'm going to go make some lamb chops, sit down with a nice bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon and listen to Dream Theater. They have an album I particularly like. It's a progressive album telling a story of a man who is, in-fact the reincarnation of a young woman who was murdered by her husband. The entire album is spent of this man piecing together dreams and memories of their past life, discovering the truth of her demise so they can both be at peace.

Get back with me when this dubstep, what you refer to as "music" can create an experience as thought provoking and compelling as this...

I said rock because its usually oldschool (popular mainstream, I wouldnt put dreamtheatre in that catagory) rock that has the most elitists..but they arnt elite theyre just close minded or simply dont know that music exists outside of whats played on the Radio...so its "durr hurr just beiber sucks!"

with the internet no one gives a shit whats playing on the radio

And now put yourself in their shoes. Maybe the music being produced today, electronic and dubstep in-particular, does not 'do anything' for them. They have no music they feel a connection to being made anymore and a lash out against it; quite like you do to the older music. Are you so much different from those who you despise?

if it isnt being made..its out there, its just not hitting the charts, I mean take rap..rap is "kind of" popular..or manly party type anthems with some rapping..most of it much liek msot other mainstream music I dont like..because its boring

pop music is made to apeal to teenagers/ young people

hence why I go out of my way to find more obscure artists..leading me to discover the awsomness of sage francis and Tech n9ne, and I know theres still plenty of awsomness for me to discover

its not just music..its everything, there is good and crap in any era, time is just the filter
