Look, thinking about sex shouldn't have a limit. People should be allowed to think what they want, even as children. Sex is a natural part of life, animals do it, we're animals. Being high and mighty and saying that kids shouldn't talk or think about it is just going to make them unable to identify when someone is being suss with them and protect themselves.

Thinking about it is one thing, of course. Doing it is quite another. It shouldn't happen until the person is at the legal age for their nation (sorry to those who lost their virginity earlier if it was by choice, but breaking the law is a stupid risk to take), and pragmatically it is not a good idea to take the risk until you're 18, so that would be the minimum for my approval.

The fact that our cultures are changing to make the age of lost virginity ever lower does not make itself right. "Normality" doesn't make it right for teenagers or children to take risks with a) pregnancy and b) STIs just for one to sixty minutes of pleasure. Contraception and protection both help, but don't totally solve that issue - teenagers are more likely to screw up with those methods than adults.

It is considered adult because it is meant to be adult. The risks involved are too high for young people.

Am I some twisted freak here?

I honestly started thinking about men, being attracted to them, imagining what it would be like to have sex and masturbating when I was seven or eight years old.
No, don't worry, you're not a freak. It is considered biologically ordinary for children to have sexual desires, and it's well-known that many people start "self-entertaining" early on in childhood.

Teenagers start thinking about sex when they discover hormones. Fourteen is WAY plausible under any circumstances. You'd only be pushing it around eleven or twelve.

Good thing you didn't live a few hundred years ago, when chicks got married with old men by the age 10.
True, but then again it was a different time and more than half the time the marrige was a contract to make the parents richer.
I've never heard of people dying from eating ice cream. Or going to get checked out after eating ice cream while drunk one night.

...What kind of unsanitary germ infested ice-creamery do YOU eat at!?!?

It was, and I'm astonished that this time we live in, when people say they are being 'open-minded' and stuff, there are still things they automatically deem sick and twisted. I think everyone should just chill the fuck down and let others do whatever they want. Of course, it's paradoxal that I'm saying this, since that implies I'm telling other what to do, which in turn is.. let's not get there, okay?

Anyhow, the point is that humans are sexual beings, moreso than other animals, which leads me to wonder why most people are so stuck-up about it. After all, it's just a physical act performed for pleasure. Big deal. It's like eating ice cream.

I bet you've never gotten an STI from ice cream, though. On that note, ice cream never got a girl pregnant either. That's why people are so stuck up about it, because they know that hormone crazed guys with bad judgment will usually get a girl knocked up if she's easy and doesn't mind if he forgot protection.

What it boils down to is the stupid portion of the population ruining it for everyone, like they usually do. They can't be trusted to make smart decisions, so neither can the intelligent sector. It actually could boil down to survival instinct: we don't want the stupid ones reproducing, for the sake of the species, and since they're the ones fucking like rabbits we have to restrict those rights from everyone.

Realistically, people can and will start thinking about sex when their hormones hit. However, I think that abstinence is best until they can handle the consequences of kids or infections. So, realistically 18 is best because most people (okay, maybe "most" is too optimistic) will be mature enough to have their sex and be able to take care of any issue that may arise from it.

There is some research that suggests that you generally have lower intelligence if your genetic father was extremely old (like late 50s and up)

Whenever they wish, with Birth Control and Condoms, sex becomes more of an experiement. I don't care if the kids decide to have sex, but it's a little better knowing that at least they care about their health enough to have safe sex.

Well uh.. I can't throw stones because I lost it when I was 17. And if they are honestly smart enough to use birth control [i/]correctly[/i], they shouldn't have a problem.

Sure. Puberty does weird things to hormones, so I don't think it's that far fetched.

Sadly, I knew a girl who got pregnant at 13. She's now 17 and just had her third kid! Talk about ruining your life.

OT: I've heard of kids as young as 11 or 12 having sex. As for me, I've thought about sex since I was 13, as of now I'm 21 and still a virgin. And I plan to stay that way until I'm married.

Yeah, there are always the mentally strange people that are just born horny...Quagmire.

But I plan on abstinence. Fifteen minutes of fun is not worth a lifetime of syphilis.
I'm going to laugh when your wife gives you syphilis.

I'm going to laugh when you realize you can't support a baby since your 14 years old.

I didn't lose my virginity until late last year. I'm 21.

Maybe it's just me been old fashioned and prude, but kids having sex any younger than 15 just makes me sick. Yes I'm aware that 100years ago it would have been the norm. 100 years ago woman not been able to vote was the norm, blacks been slaves was the norm and people were burnt as witches for not believing in God. Just because it was acceptible in the past doesn't mean it is now.

No one should be forced into having sex. It shoud be something that comes naturally and when the two people feel it is right. I do not believe that mentally a 10year old is able to comprehend the serious consiquences of sex (STD's and pregnancy). I've always seen it as the only reason children are having sex younger is because they see it all around them. The music they listen to and movies they watch are riddled with sex. There is no way to stop people from having sex, but I do not think that people below the ages of 15/16 should be having it.

Around 16 I would say they start getting serious thoughts about it. 16-19 I would consider to be the prime age that teens start wanting to have sex, which is completely normal, in my opinion. The thoughts, that is. I think sex itself should wait until your about 18, so your mature and are aware of what your getting in to. But Im starting t osound like a Health teacher in high school, aren't I? Well, theres my opinion, for what it's worth.
this but some people (most) arent mature enough at 18 or 30. There should be an IQ test as well as have a steady income incase you have a kid from one of your journeys.

Impossible, hormones start going crazy before then.
Depends on the person, some people do ovulating by age 12 and so could technically get pregnant at 13. It was also normal for 12-14 year old girls to get married to much older men circa 1900.

It's just not advisable to do so and getting married that young is either illegal now or is only allowed in extraordinary circumstances.

Edit: Getting pregnant at 13 or so would still be terrible, even if it was acceptable back then.
I probably started thinking about sex in some form at 14 or so,can't remember exactly. But I still find the concept somewhat weird at 20 and giggle sometimes when it's brought up. Yes. I'm that immature.

I also just realized that I was agreeing with Cimerax in the 1st part of this post.

Far too early. Sex is part of a bigger picture that requires far too much maturity for your average middle schooler, even high schooler. But our society has separated that from its original context and glorified it as nothing more than an amazing-feeling pastime, so now every kid who knows about it wants it. I don't think they should be thinking about sex until they can be thinking about marriage. The abolition of the family unit is detrimental to a society like ours, but it's on its way out, now that we're a shallow, pleasure-based society with no concept or anything outside our own survival and entertainment.
