As long as they give you anaesthetic, you shouldn't worry about it. I was unconscious for the whole operation when I got them out, and the worst part was just feeling groggy the rest of the day I got them out. There are much worse things to go to the dentist for that wisdom teeth.

It's not that bad, during my stint in Basic Training my wisdom teeth impacted to the point that I could barely open my mouth, let alone chew. I got sent to the base dentist. Who, after a little local anesthetic, simply pulled them out. The weirdest part is hearing/feeling the root cracking. I got some Ibuprofen and light duty for that and the next day. People make it out to be a lot worse then it really is.

Edit - well apparently everyone else normally get's put to sleep for this procedure, but I sure didn't. haha

Ah yes, this reminds me of the time when one of my baby teeth got infected. I think I was about 8 at the time, they pulled it out.
Here's the kicker though, the anesthetic didn't have any effect and that bad boy was quite stuck in there.
I believe I scared quite a few people in the waiting room with the screams.

I had mine removed some time ago. 2 years ago the ones on the right were pulled at the same time. Got sedated a bit (3 jabs, couldn't even see and hear properly on the right) and it was like pulling a headphone jack, *wiggle wiggle PLOP* done, and that for both wisdom teeth. After that, i had to keep some cottonball and gauze in untill the bleeding stopped, give or take about half an hour for that.
Aftermath: be careful with eating for a week or so, and keep it clean.

You'll be knocked for the whole operation hopefully. Then it's nothing but jello and applesauce for a while. It's not too bad, just as long as it is done right.

Tomorrow morning I got to wake up bright and early to get my four impacted wisdom teeth removed at 8 a.m....Any tips you'd like to share?

How about your own personal story about how it was when you got yours removed?
Oh god did you have to do this topic... i have a dentist appointment and i have a feeling one of mine will be pulled also due to it being at an angle and probably going to run into my molar.

In the past i have had 8 teeth out due to over crowding so i know what its like... but i have to say, the wisdom are realy meant to be awkward and hurt to be pulled.

I had one taken out because it was crumbling. I hadn't expected to get it removed that day, and I was a bit frightened. Of course, that might be becasue my dentist was an eith foot tall muscular ression woman named Olga. That was a weird experience.

Prepare for about two or three days of pain after the novocaine wears off. I had teeth pulled for braces. It's horrible. Ice cream is your new friend.

Most dental personnel are on some kind of amphetamine. Meth, dex, oct, hyp, it matters naught to them, they use them to get out of bed in the morning.

Also, anesthetic only works properly in seven cases out of ten. The other three range from semi-numb/conscious to internally alert, but externally unresponsive. You feel the pain, but cannot cry out.

Finally, the bacteria and germs that live in the average human mouth have already evolved defences against modern antibiotics, so even with those god-awful pills they make you swallow, your jaw is still likely to get infected
Sounds like someones parents didn't get them a puppy for Christmas.

Take happy pills before hand. Take happy pills during. Take extra happy pills until the hurting stops.
You're saying that like there's a time you shouldn't be taking happy pills!

Savour the experience, because you probably won't have another one like it.

I had my wisdom teeth removed with just a local anaesthetic and it was great. Obviously there's a little bit of discomfort, but the feeling of relief you experience as the teeth are wrenched out is almost orgasmic.

Only with great pain and discomfort can you experience an even greater sense of joy and relief.

It's probably the closest thing to child birth that a male can experience, so if you have the option to remain conscious, take it (unless you really can't stand pain and invasive surgery).

Make sure you regularly rinse you mouth out with plenty of warm salt water afterwards, but your dentist should tell you that (and other useful titbits of advice) anyway, but make sure to ask them before the drugs.

Also make sure you've got a lift home or taxi booked for after the procedure, because you'll probably be feeling a little bit woozy and won't want to walk or rely on public transport.

Congrats to you on probably the most masochistic and original response to this post yet, my teeth go out to you sir

get some frozen peas or corn, several packs of them, they work better than the ice packs or you could get some freezies as well as you can easily refreeze them.

don't count on eating much for the next day or two either.

I remember when I got mine and here is what you need to remember.

1. Lay down and sleep as much as you can. Your gum have a lot of blood flow and you can bleed out if you move around too much.

2. When it starts to heal, remember to wash your mouth out with salt water to prevent bacteria.

3. Milk Shakes are very good. They cool your mouth down, heal it much better and is yummy. Probably help with the pain too.

4. Don't eat any solid foods until your doctor tells you.

Silly, your name's Luke Rhinehart.

But, I guess that doesn't change the part about liking dead dogs.
