Anybody with a PS2 and a pulse needs to own the following games:

Okami (One of the few truly original games out there)
Psychonauts (From the mind of Tim Schafer!)
Steambot Chronicles (Incredibly immersive, insanely diverse, criminally underrated and features steam-powered battle robots.)

And if you're old enough, GTA: San Andreas! (Better than GTA IV. No shit.)

Because of Sony's utter lack of backwards compatibility i have decided to buy a ps2. I got Killer 7 on Yahtzee's recommendation at a local games store for $4 brand new, But i need to know some other amazing titles on the system.

Thanks!
FFX International Edition is a GREAT horrible game.
Fixed it for you

The launch PS3's had backwards compatibility, but they took out of the newer ones to reduce the price. And i highly recommend Star wars: Battlefront (both of them, their both good), Jak series (2 being my fav), Ratchet and Clank series, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, Sly Cooper (2 is my fav).

If you want some wrestling action (and seriously, it might be "low brow" in a lot of peoples eyes, but deep down everyone enjoys it a bit) I reccommend Fire Pro Wrestling Returns (sprite based graphics with an unbelievably huge roster and great create a wrestler) and Smackdown!: Here Comes the Pain (yes, the roster is dated but just an all around fun arcade style fighter).

I'd recommend Star Wars Battlefront 2. Maybe the original as well.
Absolutely this. Big fanboi of the game/series, and easily the most enjoyable third person shooter i've ever played (and still do play when I get the itch). So if you like third person shooters OR Star Wars, you must get this game imho.

If you like Transformers in any way, shape, or form, I also recommend Transformers. Created by Melbourne House and published by Atari, its a third person shooter loosely based in the Transformers Armada continuity, and easily the best Transformers game before WfC. Also a big fanboi of it, if you havn't noticed :p. But definately a solid shooter in its own right, so if thats your thing, look into it.

Other than those two games, the only action my PS2 has seen since I acquired my 360 is Harvest Moon: Back to Nature (and a heavy dose of it, to boot). So by all means look into/ask about some classic PS1 games as well. There are sure to be other worthwhile ones out there.

Other than that, grats on your purchase :)

It's the one I have since it was the only version released in Europe afaik.

It's horrible. Bad voiceacting, character design and cheesy crappy dialogue. Seymour is easily the least threatening villian I have ever seen. Blitzball sucks. The story is filled with crap that makes no sense. Like that bit where they all stop their epic quest to save the world to let Wakka play in a Blitzball tournament.

So, I'm intrigued. What is it you like about it?
Well SHOCKINGLY I liked everything you just said

It's not horrible, want to know why?
It was the FIRST Final Fantasy with voice acting. Sure, their was that English laughing scene which was bad. But one bad part =\= Full game sucks. By the way, The Japanese voice acting rocks.

If you think the character design sucks then either FFX was the only Final Fantasy game you played in your life or you've never played FFXII or\and FFXIII.
Now those are bad character designs, not even half memorable.

Seymour was threatening if you went all happy-go-lucky with the game and never bothered to seriously level, I remember being a kid and getting stuck at the mountain Seymour because I was under leveled. Then, if you're still new to the game and no one spoiled it for you, you think and hope it would be the last time you see him.In till you're wrong...

Blitzball? Fine, I won't argue that you don't like it. Not everyone did. But, you know what? I'll take Blitzball over that FFIX Card game that everyone plays all over the dam world anytime.

Ugh, it does make sense. Maybe, you just didn't understand it from the first go.
In the begging, When Tidus washed up on shore (Not sure if you just rushed and not bothered listening) and Wakka was their with his gang playing Blitzball, Tidus saw this, hit the ball back at them and long-story short, Wakka was surprised with his ability.
A little further in, Wakka "asked" Tidus to join their team to win the cup (Since they been on a losing streak for so many years).
You should know what happens next if you pay attention to the story.

Also it had innovation compared to the Final Fantasy before it, The whole Sphere-grid was loved by many. Just in case you didn't know. There was lots of people that hoped that it would return in Final Fantasy XIII.

Other than that it has:
- Tons of FUN Sidequests
- Final Weapons that are actually hard to get
- Dark Aeons
- Finding Sphere's for the Albed language was pretty fun
- It has great cinematic for it's time
- Great story compared to any of the most recent Final Fantasy's
- The SOUNDTRACK is GORGEOUS!
- Memorable moments
- Etc

Maybe you're just not a Final Fantasy fan, but anyone who's a big or hardcore FF-Fan can tell you that FFX was a great game, back then and now.

A PS2?
Dude I'm sorry to have to be the one to tell you this but I afraid your about 5 to 7 years to late to the party my friend. the PS2 was a fine system indeed but its lifespan is over, Dust in the wind as some might put it.

but I guess you can still get games for it (and most of which are extremely cheap now) so all is well for now I guess.

EDIT: Also get Disgaea 1 its awesome

Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3
Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 (You wont like the idea of Disney at first, but it does really grow on you, and boasts an excellent story to boot)
Final Fantasy X
Ratchet and Clank
Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando
Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal
Ratchet: Deadlocked
Psychonauts
Okami
Shadow of the Collosus
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
God of War 1 and 2, assuming you dont own the HD versions released on the PS3
If your a JRPG fan, almost any JRPG will satisfy you. There werent any wRPG's, or atleast not many, on the PS2.
Generally, I avoid FPS's on the PS2, I wasnt a fan of them. 3rd Person shooters, and platforming games however, are a LOT of fun
Some people like the Splinter Cell games on the PS2... I'm not one of them, but if you're into that kinda stuff, give it a try.

Theres way too much more to add...

The general idea is that the catalogue for the PS2 was FUCKING. MASSIVE. You can find a TON of great games for the system, and fairly cheap now too. Stay away from "family" and "movie" games, and its hard to go wrong.

Just a pro tip- Spyro was good on the PS1, but the original company (Insomniac) sold the IP to it. So, under any circumstance, DO NOT BUY SPYRO FOR THE PS2.
