Give the Jak and Daxter and Sly Cooper series' a whirl. And if the fancy takes you, the Timesplitter games. You'll thank me later.
Allow me to be the first exception to this rule; I've been playing Final Fantasy games almost since I was five years old and I love them [in general], but I considered FFX a massive flop and was pretty happy I got it in the 20$ bin. The departure from regular JRPG leveling to glyphs was a mistake, and for a game with an incredible amount of cut-scenes the lack of ability to skip them made it absolutely impossible to play through more than once which - minor as it sounds - was a big flaw.but anyone who's a big or hardcore FF-Fan can tell you that FFX was a great game, back then and now.
