If you play local multiplayer by all means get Tekken 5, a PS2 is the only thing we have in one of our obscure locations, but Tekken 5 can grip a group of people for hours!

Obviously the GTA's are pretty great as well but you already mentioned them.

If you want a challenge, go try God Hand.

Good luck finding copies of Shadow of the Colossus and Ico! It'll be well worth it when you do though!

silent hill 3 was good for me tho i have heard good things about 2 as well. Fatal frame games are good. Imma ff7/9 nerd, not sure u would fancy them tho being they are kinda jrpg's and nowadays are prob snooze material.

You might check out Star Wars: Battlefront (1 or 2).

I wonder if anyone still plays online on that...

i would have recommended Lucifer's call but then I say no JRPGS but I find it hard to class Lucifer's call as a JRPG as I can remember it being more action after the first half a hour and only like 10 second story clips I mean its not 85% cut-scenes like most JRPGS but if you do get it get the European version do not get its American counterpart (shin megami tensei: Nocturne) load times are ridiculous but look it up before buying it but for a normal good ps2 game you've got most of em on your list so i can only say disgaea or la puce tactics but there very strategic and can take about 40 hours to beat on your first playthrough but yea I second okami and ratchet and clank (sorry if this hard to read im a bit sleepy)

OT: And since several seems to like Jak & Dexter, what is it like? What kind of game? (Yes I know it's developed ny Naughty Dog.)
It's pretty much a 3D platformer, with some nice open-worldness added in. I personally prefer Jak 3, but you really should play through the whole series, they are great fun.

Dynasty Warriors 5 (or 5 Empires)is awesome if you like hack & slash.

Soul Calibur 3 and Tekken 5 for fighting games.

Need for Speed: Underground 2 and Most Wanted for racing games.

007 Nightfire for a fun FPS to play with friends.

Silent Hill 2, if you like horror.

Heatseeker, if you like arcade-style flight sims.

Ace Combat 4, if you like slightly more serious flight sims.

Either or both Destroy All Humans!

Either or both Timesplitters.

In addition to those already mentioned, Rez, thought you'll struggle to get a copy I imagine. And I really wouldn't bother with Killzone. I've tried multiple times with it and always got bored and frustrated pretty quickly.

TimeSplitters: Future Perfect is probably one of the best PS2 games out there. It's a must.

Star Wars: Battlefront II (just skip the first one, it's not nearly as good)

Ace Combat 4 or 5

Call of Duty: Big Red One

Gran Turismo 4 is pretty good

Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is also a pretty good game.

Ghost Recon Gold Edition (Ghost Recon, Ghost Recon Desert Siege)

And good for you! It's probably the most diverse system, and I've gotten many happy years out of mine.

Here are some ps2 recommendations (sorry didn't check if these were mentioned already)

Silent Hill 2
The Bouncer

Capcom vs SNK

Yakuza
Burnout revenge
ATHF: Zombie Ninja Pro AM (if you are a ATHF fan)
Sonic Sega Genesis Collection

Way of the Samurai. One is better than Two.

And don't think that all jrpgs are like KingdomHearts. KingdomHearts blows in comparison to many (give or take your view on Disney). However DragonQuest8, for example, is very well done.

Other than that, Jak and Daxter, GuiltyGearX (or X2), Tenchu, even The Bouncer gave me hours of entertainment.

Time Splitters 2 and 3 (the first stealth level of TimeSplitters 2 is one of the best ever made)

SSX the original launch game

Street Fighter EX 3 for 2d fighting purity but with 3d graphics

Metal Gear Solid 2/3

Ratchet and Clank Up Your Arsenal (Going Commando is pretty good but UP is better)

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas

That is about two years of gaming right there.
