Good luck finding copies of Shadow of the Colossus and Ico! It'll be well worth it when you do though!
Both can be found on Amazon... Although Ico is like 40 dollars still.

Get Sly cooper 1, 2 & 3, and join the legion of Sucker Punch fans begging for a fourth.

GET ARMORED CORE!!!! It's one of the best giant robot games! Any of the titles are a great choice, but my particular favorite is Silent Line which is the expansion to Armored Core 3. Note: it's a game series that's known for being very difficult, so if you like a challenge it's up your alley.

Your list is pretty good, but I'd like to recommend Siren, as it is a fun survival horror game. It's also pretty unique.

SOCOM 2 is a good game. The single player is pretty a pretty satisfying purchase at around $5. The multiplayer is still alive as well, making it a must-buy if you intend on actually playing anything multiplayer.

The only problem with the game might be finding it.

Speaking of SOCOM 2, I just gave myself something to look forward to at the end of finals.

Buy it now!!! That super cheap! I have 2 copies of Shadow of the Colossus and I got offered $150 for the sealed copy and 100 for the one I use!

Definitely get the entire Jak and Daxter series. A total classic, but skip the lost frontier, because Naughty Dog had to go piss on its signature franchise for a generic adventure game

Really? Because I got Shadow of the Colossus for 15 dollars on Amazon in November or December last year.

There a few on there that I'm very glad you plan to play. :3

Now, for my suggestions...
Shadow Hearts
Shadow Hearts: Covenant (skip the third one, it's awful!)
Rule of Rose
Drakengard
Drakengard 2

Those are the only ones that I'd consider as "must plays" as far as my list goes.
But I'd also suggest the Kingdom Hearts and Fatal Frame series.

Ok Final Fantasy X, the Prince of Persia Series, Sly Cooper, James Bond 007 Agent Under Fire (that game is equal to Golden Eye in single and multiplayer fun), Grandia 3 other than the ones you mentioned cant think of anymore.

Get Devil May Cry 3.
It is a prequel to the first one, so you don't need to worry about story sequence, and it, in my opinion, is the best in the series.

I'd also recommend the entire Jak and Daxter series, as well as the entire Ratchet and Clank series.
Also, Star Wars Battlefront 1 or 2.
Both are great.
I agree, except with what you said about story sequence. In my opinion, games, movies, and stories in general should be experienced in the order of their release. The only exception being Sergio Leone's Man With No Name trilogy (for anyone who hasn't seen them, do so in the following order: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, then A Fistful of Dolars, then For A Few Dollars More).

Shocker. I'm at this very moment taking my first steps as a console gamer and feel great about it. Though I might lack the knowledge of the games for the PS2 so I'm asking for guidance in this crucial moment. I need more tips about which games I'm going to buy, loan or rent.

Here follows a long list of games that I already have on my eventual playlist:

God of War I & II
Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City & San Andreas
Killzone
Black
Guitar Hero I & II
Metal Gear Solid II & III
Okami
Ico
Shadow of the Colossus
Resident Evil 4
Call of Duty 3
Ratchet & Clank
Devil May Cry

So what am I missing out, what more should I buy? As a warning, JRPG are a No Go, forcing me through Kingdom Hearts are painfull enough for the moment and might also mention that I already got Psychonauts for the PC. Other than that I'm fairly open-minded.

EDIT: Anything with action will suffice but I really enjoy deep games too, as long they aren't JRPG. I shall stand eternal strong!
Fatal Frame (if your European Project Zero) Series

Edit: oh and welcome to the club ive also recently got a hold of one more due to my old PSX laser issues but im also going to stretch my gaming legs in ps2 titles also

Was it in a cardboard box?
No. It came with instruction manual and everything. Only problem with it is on the horse it sometimes gets this weird glitch where it looks like i'm still moving. Like my hair will still be blowing but i'l just be running in place. Then if I get off the horse i'll just be standing in air.

Red Faction 1, if you're keen to play a game so bad that it's almost funny.

It actually wasnt a bad game to begin with.. It wasnt ahead of its time by any means, but was still pretty good back in the day. Splitscreen matches with a mate and plenty of bots could make for some quality entertainment.

maximo: ghosts to glory and maximo vs. the army of zin. They're very good platformer/action games. I also recommend the splinter cell series. Oh and tekken tag, tekken 4 and 5.
