You're late to the party, this game was great before trading rolled around and misshaped the community into an irritable monster that feeds off of misleading opinions. Just avoid the Steam Forums, it's usually a crippling mess filled with negativity and the Legion of Valve.

Other than that, feel free to add me as "Plasmafrog", but my name will appear as "Full Metal Engineer" when added.

This can be done by opening the Steam UI if you have downloaded the application.

Simply go under "Friends" and select "Add Friend", like so...

Then enter in "Plasmafrog". If I'm around later, I can help give you tips and introduce you.

Just keep those in mind, plus the fact that there's no actual gunplay involved (it's just spraying and praying) and you should be having some minimal amount of fun in no time. If you don't, the uninstall feature was personally my favorite part of the whole game.
You sound like one happy customer.

All you need to do to win indefinitely at TF2 is find the "Black Box" otherwise known as "Easy Mode". *grumpy face*

Well TF2 taught me that nothing multiplayer is fun, so I figure for the $10 (steam deal) I paid that was a good lesson.

I personally take the TF2 experience and CSS experience over CoD or much else. But that's just me, not everyone likes or wants to like the multiplayer experience.

If you want to play TF2 in a mature environemt you really have to find a good community to join.

It's an amazingly fun game to play with friends.
I mostly play on the Fucked in the Head servers because, ironically, they are probably the most mature and fun people to play with and their rules; no racism/sexism/derogatory name calling, really had me hooked. Been playing there for years now.

As for the game. Play every class a little. You learn how to beat other classes by playing against your favorite class as other classes.
Most importantly, have fun and don't take it seriously. It's meant to be a for shits and giggles game and excels at being one.

Also I am new to steam and do not have any games other then the free ones you can get.
I am hoping to get a copy of Portal soon. I played and beat it at my friends house on his Xbox like 5 times and me and him Beat Portal 2 single and Co-Op together.
I have a copy of Half Life 2 if you haven't played that (dunno if it's one of the 'free' ones you're talking about). I also have a copy of Portal 1, but I'd rather give it to somebody who hasn't played it before.
Oh dude. Please. I would be so happy.
Well I sent you a PM, or you could do it the way PlasmaFrog suggested, and search the community for "maespa".
I'll probably be the second one, who's online right now.

Personally I've learned to hate anything multiplayer, not because I'm bad at it (don't get THAT impression, I'm actually good at them) but because I'm sick of the people that play. I've played as many FPS games as my budget will allow and quite frankly I've never found one that hasn't made me want to tear a few of someone's limbs off.

One tip, don't use the heavy, he's worthless. Other classes have their uses (my personal favorite was the pyro), but there is absolutely nothing the heavy can do the other classes can't better.
What is this I don't even.

I mean, the heavy was a niche class, over a year ago, but then they buffed his rev up speed, his rev down speed, his spin up walking speed, gave him the gru...

He's pretty much the most powerful class in the game right now.
Ah they improved him huh? Well he certainly needed it. I haven't played the game in a while, but last time I did his weapon did little damage and couldn't hit anything. It felt like even a backburner outclassed him in effective range, and you don't start with the gru. You either have to pay up or jump through a lot of hoops, and you pay a lot. The buy all everything but statless hats packs costs nearly twice what the game does last time I checked.

It's not really "about" anything. It's two teams of various eccentric characters killing each other and trying to complete objectives. It's simple, honest, chaotic fun. And that's why I like it.

To be honest, I have fun when I'm being blown into chunks. It just makes it that much more satisfying when I manage to bring the intelligence back on the odd ocassion. I play Scout and I mainly run and jump around like a nutter just for shits.

say wahh??

heavy is my destroyer class, and hell most of the time i don't even have a medic with me, as long as you don't head straight out like the average dumbass heavy you can be one hell of a sneaky brick wall, especially with one of the special miniguns

Its a great, fun, FPS with a tonne of character. Its quite well balanced. If you are bored of grey-brown realistic FPS games today, this should provide a welcome break from that.

I'll have to second that. The Heavy-Medic pair is crazy powerful; more so than any other class you can pair with the medic. I usually roll heavy-medic with a friend and we generally tear through the enemy team :p

It's a team based online only fps. It's balanced, fun and very, very funny.

TF2 has become more of a time sink than anything else. You will never get all of the weapons they've put in now unless you sacrifice your immortal soul, so you just trundle back and forth on a server eternally looping a single map slowly notching up kills.

It is a greater exercise in futility than any other game I've played, but since I've put over 200 hours into it I can hardly say it's a bad game afterwards.

Especially when you use the GRU to move faster and the sandvich to heal yourself afterwards. I still don't have the Brass beast though.

I second that. FPS games have never made me laugh so much. Nothing quite like chargining into a mob of enemies as the demoman with an ullapool caber and sending them all flying.

The issue I have (maybe they fixed it, to be honest I didn't play the game very long because I hated it and had common sense), is that my time with the heavy could be summed up with one word, missing. The mini gun does surprisingly little damage for a minigun and can't hit shit but at the closest ranges. The flamethrower has a better effective range than that thing. You're also a huge, slow, very obvious and hittable target, so your extra health doesn't do much unless you have a medic, not that you could ever rely on your team, and people say CoD's bad. Spending ten minutes defending the briefcase from a scout while calling to my team for backup the entire time kind of drove that point home (you try hitting one of those speedy bastards with a grenade), or like when my half dead allies run right past me and into the room guarded by three fully upgraded sentries, me, the medic, and then they whine to me that it's my fault they died for not healing them. I found soldiers to be better tanks since they dish out a lot more pain, are harder to hit, and the rocket launcher actually hits things you want it to.

ha yeah, as of right now i just have the natasha+sandvich combo, hopefully eventually i'll be able to randomly pick up another great minigun

i will admit with all the bloody ass combo's out there though..there is some really cheap/cheese strategies out there that people use, i love the game but i've had to limit myself somewhat when playing against certain people/combos
