Like the whole summon pheonix as a last move in FF7 broken?
Greatest. Materia pairing. Ever. On my first playthrough of that game, that pairing saved my ass on a couple of occasions.
I could never find the "final attack" materia, but you needed to have phoenix mastered for it to work forever. (and final attack too I think)

Did you ever they the regen trick? When you cast regen, then pop the lid of the PS1, the game would stall, but regen would continue to heal your party.

You've got a lot ahead of you. It took over 70 for me, mostly from grinding for levels and limit breaks. Average time seems to be about 30 - 40 hours.

Not forever. 5x per battle if both materia were mastered. After the fifth Phoenix, you've got to win the battle. Final Attack was in the materia forest that opens up after the flying Weapon is killed, I think. Forgive me, it's been a while.

I knew about it but I was always afraid that this would break my game somehow so I refrained from ever doing it. Besides, that reeeally feels like cheating and I hate cheating in games.

Be about 30 if you get a gold chocobo.

EDIT: 45 if you kill both Weapons.
did it in 36 hours beating both weapons and getting a gold chocobo.. in a single sitting with a friend of mine, back when I had nothing to do with my time in the world but to play video games in ungodly long marathon sessions.

Can somebody tell me why it's great? I downloaded it recently aswell but to my PS3 and I have just got off the train to blow the second thing up and I have yet to be anything but annoyed by it.
you've barely even started, you only have about 3 or 4 materia? and 3 or 4 slots per character... you will get hundreds and 16 equipable per character. It gets quite "depthful"

Nah cheatings when you got one of those hack memory cards and play thru the game as sepherioth... haha

I thought that the final attack and pheonix was more of a hack.

My favorite combo was Knights of the round materia and mimic, put KOTR on main guy and mimic on the other 2 party members, maxed out would do about 350k damage per round.

Its about as long as any other RPG nowadays. Maybe longer.

Much like a good book, Final Fantasy is best enjoyed when you can get into the Storyline. If you're having a hard time doing that, then little things like annoying sidequests and timed boss fights (I actually had a firm hatred for the train part) will make you want to metaphorically break your disks.

If you're having a hard time getting into 7, seriously consider another part of Final Fantasy, if you want to stay in the genre. If you want something fast, and easy, you could always dig up a copy of Phantasy Star 4 ;). God that was a good game back in the day lol.

Garland is hoping to polish the NTSC version off within 7:15. I wish him luck.

I would advise against using a strategy guide for your first run-through unless something really stumps you. I have played JRPGs both with guides, with shitty guides, and without guides at all; I enjoyed them most without guides, and then with shitty guides (because I can write notes in the margins for the next person who happens to use the book, in this case my brother) and then regular guidebooks with full walkthroughs sort of spoil the games. If you'd like to do a second run-through where you can explore every little nook and cranny to get every item and whatnot, you can do that, but don't let the game beat itself for you.

I can probably get it done in about 50-55 hours if I sped through and didn't stop to enjoy it and probably as low as 45 hours if I go all bare-bones speedrunning. But I usually take my time, enjoy life, train like a demon, etc. so I've eclipsed 100 hours each playthrough.

Welcome to the Escapist! There's some punch and pie on the table and the rules are thumbtacked to the door. Hope you enjoy it here!

Give it a chance. You've only just started. You haven't even met the true antagonist yet.
And actually if you think about it, Sephiroth isnt really the true antagonist. I put the answer here but you have too look veeery hard. DAMN YOU HOJO!!!
