Heeeey, i live in Whitley, and go walking to Asda at 3am at least once a week, it's not that bad... Lived here pretty much all my life, a lot of the rep comes from back when the Tavern was open. Since it, and the Engineer's Arms, closed down, it's got a lot less "enter and you will be beaten to fuck". Does still happen, but nowhere near like it used to.

I think that you need to know that you're a boss and deserve your very on meeme.

Two of my mates got mugged one night when they were walking home through a park because it was quicker some guy came up to them with a machete and demanded their money the last of which they'd just spent on the pizza so he took that and then proceeded to bail in the end they were more confused about the fact that he had been walking around with a machete and no one had noticed (it was about 8:30)

I have 2 stories relating to this. Though my own personal experience is a bit useless but I suppose it's something.

I was about 17 and two little kids (This may sound kind of pathetic but at least I'm honest) who were about 13, came up to me with bats (one said he had a knife but I think he was bluffing to sound tough or something) and wanted my mp3 player. I told them to get lost but of course they didn't but luckily my friends house was nearby so I got there as quick as I could. A bit of a useless story but it is messed up how people, especially kids, resort to this kind of behaviour. I mean seriously, trying to forcibly take someones stuff because you want it? What is that about?

Also a friend of mine got held up by a junkie with a dirty needle for money. All he had on him was a bit of change so luckily he didn't lose anything valuable.
well rest easy cause you know those kids will fail at life
OT:I like to think of it this way anyone who mugs people is an idiot who will have a bad life in jail

OHSHITOHSHITOHSHIT please don't shank me dude! I won't diss Whitley ever again!

Yeah, I know Whitley's not that bad. It's still fun to make it sound like it is, though. It's turned into a kind of in-joke at this point.

Well, alright, i accept your apology, just don't do it again.

It can be... Not like it used to, but it can still be pretty messed up. I'm not stupid enough to try walking to or from town late at night, specially since it means going past the leisure centre and the little playpark where the chavs hang out.
Well, i had to once before, when my ex got in a big argument with her brother (who she was staying with for the weekend) and decided to walk to mine. He lives by cemetery junction... No way was i letting my then-girlfriend walk that on her own - though i wouldn't want any of my friends walking that on their own - so i went to meet her. Nothing eventful happened, but i still kept looking over my shoulder the whole time, ready to run.

Dude, if you haven't yet, go to the fucking hospital. I'm honestly not sure if I believe you but you got punched in the head, several times.

For those who don't believe him consider this: I'm not terribly familiar with all the possible symptoms of a concussion or other brain injury but I'm fairly sure aggression is one of them, and pretty much any traumatic situation has a tendency to come with some degree of memory loss, which would explain a number or things, like why he decided to walk 4 miles home when based on the story there was a train yard nearby where he could have found help, either he doesn't remember stopping to get help, or he just kept walking as a result of his injuries.

I was walking home last night and saw a group of people that approached me. They literally stole my shoes and were about to steal my wallet and throw me off this bridge. I got out of their control and managed to jump off it and land on a train.

How fucked up are the times we live in that random people seriously attempt to kill someone for shoes and a damn wallet?

Has anyone else had an experience being mugged, or attempted mugging? I'm fairly proficient in Krav Maga. But taking on five people at once is quite difficult. I managed to submit the big guy, but some other dude repeatedly punched me in the head until I retreated.

I jumped off a 30 foot bridge, on to a train, so about a 20 foot drop. Jumped off, and walked home 4 miles in my socks. Sorry for the profanity, but I seriously think this is messed up.
Only time I got jumped was after leaving a club in Mexico some people followed me and my friends to an after party we of course didn't notice them (drugs plus alcohol = BLAST!)

Unfortunately drugs and alcohol can also cause severe vomiting and sickness so I stayed outside with a friend next to his truck puking my guts out, when we get surrounded by 5-6 guys memory is fuzzy on this part but I noticed them surrounding us and immediately stood up and tried my best to ignore my stomach crawling up my throat.

So my Spanish is pretty horrible and one of these guys is talking to my friend who is really good with Spanish then one of the guys takes off my friends cap throws it and slaps him upside the head. I react to this by punching this guy 3 times in the face before a flurry of fists and yells brings me to the other side of the street I was super drunk but several of them were yelling repeatedly in Spanish that they were gonna kill me. It took me awhile to remember how to fight lol I must've taken 20-30 punches before I remembered how to move. Once I got my adrenaline under control I put up one heck of a fight against 3 at once. This was within the time span of 5-10 minutes

I think I kinda blacked out at some point but a few people from the after party had come out to the defense of me and my friend. At this point it was funny cause I was behind all these people suddenly and didn't remember them coming out or even hearing them.

We chased them away to their van and they promised they were coming back with guns. I was in Mexico, people get killed all the time in Mexico. So after about 10 minutes of talking with my friends there we ran off back to America. Turns out that a friend of the attackers girlfriend had told him that my friend had grabbed his girlfriends ass at the club we were at earlier. I also found out that half of the attackers actually were connected with an organized crime family in Mexico.

I'd say I was lucky to get out of that with nothing more than a nosebleed. :]

I am skeptical but not outright dismissive. However having been chased by an aboriginal gang that intended to murder me I can relate to such a scenario.

I haven't been mugged, a friend of mine has, twice. Kind of. He's the worst guy to mess with, trains in like three different forms of martial arts. The first incident, two guys got the shit beat out of them by him. The second was kind of a non-incident. He just stared the guy down and said matter of factly "you will lose". The guy left.
As for you, seriously, well done.

I have had 3 somewhat similar experiences, but I can honestly say, I deserved at least two of them. The last incident I may have been asking for (these things due to a life I lead, and things I did) but what clinched it for me was that as I was alone walking down a very crowded street, as it was about 2 am and last call the bars were emptying, I got dragged by my hair into a garbage alley. The worst part as at least 20 people witnessed me getting dragged away, and I suppose that since no one followed me, they heard me screaming and cursing and defending myself, no came to help me. No one called the police, when I crawled out of the alley, no one was there. That really killed my faith, that the milk of human kindness had gone sour. But on the upside that night changed my life.

And well done sir, Batman you may just be.

I demand that you request the Escapist to change your username to "The Goddamn Batman".

I've only gotten jumped once in my life and that was a few years ago. These gangbangers who hung out near my apartment thought I was related to someone in a rival gang or some shit [to be fair, I might be, I never know what my family's up to these days] so when I went out one day they saw me, shoved me over and wailed on me for about two minutes. I'm surprised they didn't take anything.

I don't really go out enough to get mugged. As long as there are people, stuff like this will happen.

Thanks for the disrespect. I suppose I slowly walked/limped home. My bad. I didn't get hit too many times in the head, I blocked most of it. I still took a few good ones. If you've never been in a real fight, why are you criticising me? I just feel like you're being an asshole by basically calling me a liar, when I came here for support. That's fucked up dude.
Yeah, it's kinda like that time when my family was attacked by bears and I had to fight them all off, but one of them had a shotgun and shot me. It hurted like hell, I just wanted support but they criticised me.

Point being, you have to understand that there is no proof what so ever that what you are saying is true, and the whole 20 foot drop makes it even more unlikely. You can't seriously expect us to just beileve your story like that, it doesn't work that way.

I seem to remember that OP avatar from another thread on something completely unbelievable...

You landed on a train approaching a station, didn't go to said station for help and nobody on the train noticed you?

If you did do a martial art you would've known a 5v1 is a case where you make an oppurtunity to run, not fight till you have to throw yourself off as bridge on to a train.

On a sensible note, no I have never been mugged - I make the habit of not attracting attention

OP, not that I don't believe you... but maybe you should post a picture of your bruises? If you speak the truth, then you will have your bruises, no?

OT: No, I've never been mugged. I live in a small town/city.

I'm glad you made it out of their with your life and wallet. :) If it were me i would have been dead.

I've had one guy try to start a fight with me with all his friends cheering him on. He broke a stick over my head and punched me in the face but i kept on walking. Not to sure about the jumping off the brige part but i guess it's possible and if it were the only way out. Are you shaken up by it? My advice is just to talk about it with a friend.
