Gamestop has screwed me over many times before but there aren't very many places to trade in games in my small town so I just make do
I treat gamestop like walmart. I go in there when I need to feel better about myself.el_emmens said:I don't really know if this goes here but I'll post it anyway
yesterday I went to trade in two game, both of them were previously baught from thereone a little over a year ago the other was given to me by a friend of my parents one of them was labeled $5.00 the other $18.00 however when i got there they only told me that I was going to get $2.25 becuase their both "old games" then to add further to the insult they have to take out 15% from the money exchange.
so it's gonna be a long time before I ever trade in a game at gamestop ever again
well you make a fair argument, I didn't expext to get an excessively large amount of money, just enough to be satisfied, I understand the concept of price depreciation, but take in to conderation that they took out about 20% percent from the already tiny amount of money I was supposed to get back felt like kind of a dick move, it's something that tends to put a bad taste in my mouthcleverlymadeup said:ok everyone whining about gamestop "ripping them off" should honestly go take business 101
let me explain how you are NOT being ripped off and actually have no clue how business works
when they buy the game, it's not guaranteed to be resold. there's been a few current and ex gamestop employees on here who have said they have tons of used games in their back room, most which won't be sold but were traded in to the store and now they're stuck with them.
so why in the hell would ANY business person give you full price for the game? they wouldn't because they would be out of business pretty darn quick. store credit gives you more money because you are going to buy something from the store and giving them more money because chances are you will buy more than one game. getting straight cash means they've lost a sale and can't make all that money back like they would in store credit, so they give you money back
so in reality you haven't been ripped off, it's just you don't understand anything about business or the art of making money. anyone with any knowledge of how business works would tell you this. so quit your whining and stop saying you were ripped off cause you weren't
That's all I go there for. I keep all my old games on principle. I think the only games I've ever traded in were very outdated sports games that I got a couple bucks for.SmugFrog said:I still think Gamestop is good if you want to buy used games.

the fact is if you say "i want cash" that means they won't see any money from you by buying another game and therefore not putting money into their system, so they are losing the money. that 20% is more or less so they are covered if they need to write off the game.el_emmens said:well you make a fair argument, I didn't expext to get an excessively large amount of money, just enough to be satisfied, I understand the concept of price depreciation, but take in to conderation that they took out about 20% percent from the already tiny amount of money I was supposed to get back felt like kind of a dick move, it's something that tends to put a bad taste in my mouth
yeah cause the game is USED and not NEW, there is a difference between the two and that's why you get less moneypieeater911 said:Gamestop is a glorified gaming pawn shop.
You can literally buy a brand new game from there for $65, go back the very same day to trade it in and they'll offer you $35.
Don't ever trade games at Gamestop. You'd probably get more money off of Ebay or something.
