When she arrives ask for his number, call him and tell him it was a huge misunderstanding and you were just joking. Probably wouldn't hurt to apologise vehemently for it too.

He's probably not worth her time regardless of her history if he's gonna break up with her for such a small thing; in fact he may even have been looking for an out but didn't want to be the bad guy when they split up.

All that said it was a pretty dumb thing to say and you should probably think carefully before making jokes such as that when you haven't spoken to the person in a long time and don't know their current situation.
