Get Uncharted 2 (and possibly Uncharted 1, haven't played that myself though). LittleBigPlanet and MGS4 are good choices.

Ratchet and Clank, if that's your kind of thing, too.

Avoid: Killzone 2, Resistance: Fall of Man, maybe InFamous. Killzone and Resistance are absolutely dire. InFamous is alright, but unless you can find it very cheap, don't bother.

Oh, Demon's Souls if you like a challenge. It's not great, but it's fun.

He probably meant that for me, since I dared to imply that the PS3 is less than the technical equivalent to New York style pizza. I dare to be critical of all 3 major platforms, the audacity! (no, the Wii is not a platform)

God of war isn't out yet. (Very soon though)
Heavy rain is literally Quick Time Event: The movie: the game.
To some extent, yes. But for those of us games-are-art-hippies, it's a must have even with its minor glitches.
The thing is, it's storytelling does not lend itself well to the quick time event driven format. The story would gain from being told simply as a movie, or a choose your own adventure book. Maybe a gimmicky TV show where viewers vote between episodes.

InFamous is basically a must buy if you enjoy fun. Also if you like a game that is utterly ruthless towards the player demon's souls is a good buy. Lastly if you're into console shooters, MAG, Resistance, and KillZone 2 are good choice with fun online.

You probably already had it on xbox then, but get Batman nonetheless. It's worth owning twice.

I'm not sure why you feel the story doesn't lend itself to the format. If anything, this couldn't be done in any other format. With a movie you'd love the interaction with the narrative, and with a 'choose your own adventure' book you'd lose the cinematic qualities. And you really think gimmicky-viewer-vote-tv show format works better? I'm just confused by your logic here.

Honestly, i just got my PS3 like a couple months ago and I'm STILL playing inFamous! (the first game i bought for it)
The Resistance games are a great lot of fun, I've loved Ratchet and Clank since the PS2 days and although they've basically been making shinier versions of the original ever since....that's not really a bad thing! LittleBigPlanet never gets old, and Metal Gear Solid 4 (Even though i have no idea what's going on the whole time) is a blast!

If anything though i think the most essential piece of my PS3 discs is the one Netflix mailed me for free. If you have Netflix, you must get it immediately, and if you don't i'd say the minimum package is well worth the instant download capability. I know i use it almost daily!

Oblivion
Fallout 3

Would it be bad for me to suggest MW2? Either people here hate it or they just think it's too obvious to post here.

Personally I don't much care for inFamous or Killzone 2. I found the inFamous demo crappy, but I guess it's nice if you're into that sort of thing. Killzone 2 I borrowed from a friend and still have not finished more than 1/2. It's just not my type of FPS where every fight is you and bad guys taking turns popping up and ducking.

I love Demon's Souls and highly recommend it if you're at least fairly skilled at games. It's not super hard but there's a steep learning curve as it is pretty much a "medevil combat simulator". Uncharted 2 is quite good, and has fun multiplayer. Other games aren't as exclusive but BioShock 2 and Darksiders I really liked.

Well, since you're good enough to realise that Uncharted, Heavy Rain and Gow3 (When it comes out) are obvius choices, I guess I don't have to mention them.
Others I'd recommend are:

All PS3 ratchet and Clank games.
Little Big Planet
Resistance 1&2

Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction
Ratchet and Clank Crack in Time
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Uncharted 2: Among thieves

Those are my recommendations. I know that people complained about Uncharted 1, but I had a great amount of fun with it.
