Black Math by The White Stripes love that song. Err.. I think most people here listen to heavy metal. I consider myself more of a blues/folk kinda guy.
I myself am into British Invasion bands from the 60s, new wave, old punk rock, 80's and early 90's alt rock, hip hop from the golden age (1980-1996), modern bands like arcade fire, mgmt, animal collective, the roots and Beach House.
my favourite band are probably REM, my favourite song is Jane Says (Live at Irving Meadows) by Jane's Addiction and my favourite album is probably either Tim by the Replacements, Murmur by REM or Radio City by Big Star
Of course there's more, but i just don't have the time or the inclination.
Except it's not advertising, at all. A person's last.fm page is no different than someone's facebook page, it just gives you the persons most listened to songs.
I'm an outspoken fan of metal, particularly Scandinavian metal, but in reality I like anything with a good beat no matter the musical genre so long as it isn't rap.
I listen to a lot of stuff. A quick glance at my collection reveals Between the Buried and Me, Depeche Mode, Coheed & Cambria, Radiohead, Rammstein, old Green Day, The Mars Volta, Vitamin String Quartet, OutKast, old Weezer, Pixies, Aesop Rock, and The Smiths.

There's your answer. Since I'm in a computer cluster on campus right now I won't be going to Last.fm (really I only came here to kil time before a meeting, and print some work), though my interests lie mainly in indie-rock, alternative rock, and indie-folk. Iron & Wine, Animal Colelctive, Mumford and Sons, Modest Mouse, Florence and the Machine, Reverend and the Makers, The Mars Volta, and Frou Frou are all pretty high on my favourites list .
Can listen to anything that has some style to it but metal and rock mostly. Oddly I spent most of my life saying how much I hate rap but recently fell in love with Eminem's early stuff, the 15 year old me is spining in his grave.
But mainly Electronic, Synth, Rock, Britpop, Jazz, and Retropop. Sadly I don't think many people here listen to Synth or Electronic, nor do people I know in real life actually.
I've recently been listening to tons of stuff from the early 20th century. Fallout 3 got me in to it (just one more good thing video games have done for me)
