You're going to pretend you're deaf so that you don't have to take care of your pet? That's a bit negligent.
I'd feed it if it were food time, but it is not so it's just annoying.

Why not just feed it?
It's not time to feed it and it's already overweight
Stick the poor cat outside so it can get some exercise and won't want to eat all day long out of boredom.

Just give it a different *reward* when it mews, like petting or a spray of water. It'll learn. Whether it starts doing something else when it's hungry is another matter.

If the issue is largely weight, have you tried experimenting with smaller (but more frequent) portions of food? I figure that might stop it from becoming terribly hungry, while also keeping down the total amount of food it gets.

it's been declawed and is like 12 years old
So? If you have a yard let it out in the backyard it won't go far.

My brothers cat is like that, I give her a long cuddle and she stops for a while, then bothers others while i'm not around. So just do something they dislike, without resorting to violence/screaming.

Maybe it just needs a little exercise or something else to do other than eat?

I dont think it will work. At all. The cat's just going to claw you. I would suggest doing what the others said. Spray it with water or give it the opposite attention it wants.

Now, are you weird for it? A little. Sounds a bit negligent, but then again I read and saw it was overweight so its not like you're purposely starving a bone rack thin cat in risk of dying because it annoys you.

Now have I ever done something like that? Yeah, to my uncle's dog. it though I was just gonna keep feeding it whenever the hell it wanted to be fed, and that wasnt happening. I made sure it ate everything in its bowl first, no matter how old (just pour some water on the old dry food, they dont care. Besides the dog tries to eat its own waste, so I dont think old food its hurting it or inhumane). Then I would wait a few hours to let it have time to digest the food (his dog is a doberman, its very energetic, so its not going to get overweight anytime soon). Of course, it also had to wait for me to pour the food. You dont want to animal to start eating as you give it food, that encourages it too.

No fences and it's too lazy to go out anyway, it lies on the heating vent all day and doesn't even try to play or do anything when we try and play with it.

Well, I guess that the end of this thread, it was fun while it lasted, maybe if I can convince my cat I'm deaf I'll make a new one titled "VICTORY!! My cat thinks I'm deaf and it's awesome!"

You cannot pretend anything with a cat. They can read minds. Don't believe me? Go into another room without direct line of sight to your cat and simply *think* about opening up a container of their food. They will come running.

Sheesh, that's the last time I enjoy some hard candy while at the computer! Seriously, though I think you are onto something there I can be free the entire day and my cat won't bother me. The minute I start up my Xbox and play online, He'll come rushing in hollering like I've npt fed him in days!

My cats stand infront of the fridge when they expect to be fed something that isn't in their bowl, we just ignore or move them

My cat knows i won't feed it so it doesn't ask me.

If however the parents are gone for x amount of time and i feed it once it will suddenly start meowing at me for food as it then realises that i am capable of providing food.
