EVERYTHING.

I suggest starting simple, though. A big tower, maybe? Recreating something?

Personally, I built Rapture, an airship and letters in a mountain, and I'm now working on A Surprise.

I'm building Kara from WoW. >.> ....okay let me rephrase, i'm clearing the land, to build Kara from WoW.

....a lot of land. ...I've used like 200 stone shovels. ...maybe 40 iron shovels......so many...shovels..

Basically, go make shovels.
For big projects it's always better just to use the classic version or the indev mode.

NEVER DIG STRAIGHT DOWN.
Why? It seems like a good idea to me, although finding lava might be a bit of a problem.
How would you get back out?

Apart from taking ages making steps...
Jump, place block, jump, place block repeat till you see grass.

I have seen it done and if you come across a cave then you can find your way out, seems like the most fun solution.

When is the price likely to go up?

At the moment my god-awful laptop wont run minecraft, but I've played Alpha at a friends and loved it. I don't really want to buy it now though, as I have no idea when I'm going to have the money to upgrade to a half decent desktop.

Well the beta version is supposedly close, and the price is expected to go up on its release, and again when the game is completed. You could buy it now and just download when you have a better computer...

Put up lots of torches outside your house (about one every fifth block) and they won't bother you as much, of course, if you build your house on a mountain, you won't have to worry about them getting close to it.

Minecraft is the big thing. I've been on the fence as to buy it or not. Mulitplayer games are best with a group I've found. Are there any Escapist crews?

Ahh right, well, I need to make some tools to get some coal first. But you know once you've made a torch, can you relight it whenever, Or do they just stay lit?

Hmm, might do just that then. Can always try and find a place with computers that wil run it until I get an upgrade.

I'm currently finding it pretty damn hard to find coal. It's getting annoying now. May just make a few wooden axes, a wooden sword and go on a massive search, don't want to lose my cabin again though...
just search big stone walls, you will find coal there very easy.

Right now they stay lit, but that will change with the Halloween update, then you'll have to relight them with flint and steel, or replace them with lanterns which will stay lit forever.
It's possible that existing torches will be replaced with lanterns.

Is it harder to craft a lantern then? Because having to relight torches would be quite tedious after a while.
