So I've finally bought in to the wonder that is Minecraft and have been reading the wiki for advice on crafting.

I've made a rudimentary log cabin, crafted a workbench and a door. My question is, now what?

I think I need some way of creating a few weapons for those pesky zombies that force me back inside my house at night...

Edit: Also now crafted some simple wooden tools, and made a large sand tower to the sky limit so I can't lose my cabin again!

The overall point is to create what you want, and to survive. But I've been told a lot of the fun comes from discovering new things to craft without looking it up.

For the first few nights, stay inside. Craft, and don't get too anxious - it takes a little while to get going. To craft weapons, armor, or what have you, consult the Wiki [http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Weapon], and NEVER DIG STRAIGHT DOWN.

Always carry torches when you go to mine, always have a spare pickaxe, and always, always prepare for the unexpected.

That means these guys:

Pfft, hiding?

I like to think of it as... postponing the ass kicking.

I'm thinking about buying it.

If I loved the classic version, will I like the full version?

Haha, yes, I think I may call it that too...

One problem, I'm finding it quite hard to find any coal to create any torches. Which is beginning to be a bit of a pain...

Yes, I think you'd love it. And it costs much less now than it will when it's finished. Buy now and save the cash.

You will soon learn to f***ing hate Creepers. Anyway, building huge glass-and-stone fortresses is always cool.

I can see them through the windows and they can see me, it's not hiding it's fortifying my position :p

My suggestion? Do what you want to do.

Get coal.

Coal is VERY important. You can make torches with coal, and if you don't have torches in your house to light it up, mobs might spawn in there.

You could also start a mine to get some stone. Go looking for caves so you can get some iron, gold, diamond, redstone, etc.

Remember, Creepers only want a hug!

I'm building Kara from WoW. >.> ....okay let me rephrase, i'm clearing the land, to build Kara from WoW.

....a lot of land. ...I've used like 200 stone shovels. ...maybe 40 iron shovels......so many...shovels..

Basically, go make shovels.

I'm currently finding it pretty damn hard to find coal. It's getting annoying now. May just make a few wooden axes, a wooden sword and go on a massive search, don't want to lose my cabin again though...

You'll stumble upon veins of them the further you dig. I'd try mountainsides and the like first, as they you usually have a fair amount of them lodged into the sides.

Pfft.

Everyone talks up the creatures like they are so scary and tough.

You can jump up a few blocks and be 100% safe.

If they have bows, you line-of-sight them and run.
Eh, it's largely for comedic effect. Though I seriously doubt the OP would survive long without weapons - or at least until he learns hit distance. Even more so since they gang up to troll the hell out of you.

Much more fun to not hide away.
Again with that word! :p

Why? It seems like a good idea to me, although finding lava might be a bit of a problem.
Lava is precisely the reason why. And because you'll have to return to the surface at some point.
