Mine isn't a creepy smile, more of a glare that says "Die Loyalist Scum." Maybe I should join that Furreh group :p And that TV Tropes article is a good definition >..>

Does my smile creep you out?

And I believe that the smile is creepy because you only expect one from a human and furries are never going to come to the same level as a human. Our brains are hardwired to be creeped out by things that look not-quite-human (*also see Uncanny valley).

Well... is there another way to make a dog appear to smile that would be less "creepy"?

Both has to be right for Anthropomorphic =/= furry to be false.
Look, anthro =/= furry = if(anthro) {furry=false;}
If anthro then it's not and can't be furry.
Cat =/= tiger.
Capiche?
No, to put it really simple.
2 liters of water => 1 liters of water, this is true
1 liters of water => 2 liters of water, this is false
so 2 liters of water =/= 1 liters of water.
Capiche?

Geez, quite a bit of rage here. Just follow what I do:

Does it creep you out even slightly?

If yes, ignore and move on. It doesn't concern you unless they are out to annoy you. If they do that, then you have a problem. If not, just carry on with whatever you were doing.

I get what you're saying, but it's a confusing way of putting it for people who are unfamiliar with the shorthand of formal logic. It's better to just write it out, which for your example would read:

The statement "If I have 2 liters of water, then I have 1 liter of water" is obviously true. The statement "If I have 1 liter of water, then I have 2 liters of water," is, however, false. With this understanding, two liters of water does not equal one liter of water.

Capiche?

I may sound stupid when I write this post but is it just me or has the thread deviated to become a discussion about what is and is not furry rather than the OP's topic on whether a trend has occurred in the furry avatars of the escapist and if we feel the same effect caused by the possible said trend?

I never said when I first posted but no I don't see a trend but I still see the smiles as creepy.

This is 'furry'. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthropomorphism]

'Furryness' is a subset of anthropomorphism.

Projecting human characteristics (talking, emotion, walking, etc..) onto animal bodes in particular. It's very, very common.

There are some furries who take the sexual characteristics of humans and project it onto animalistic representations. They are also furry. They are, however, a minority. This us uncommon.

So don't worry yourself about it.

Never really felt offended by furries. Mostly just seems to me that a lot on the people are taking it to stupid levels because of some immature phobia. They seem to thinks that anything that walks on two legs and has fur must be some kind of sexual deviant rape monster.

As for the whole prejudice complex. People wanting to be accepted for who they are? The hell you say?

*skips whole thread*

dude, it's because they have muzzles instead of flat mouths like humans. at least, the typical ones that are based off common non-primates. the mouth is all stretched in proportion to ours because of the distended jaw it wraps around. hence, a creepy smile.

well, maybe not the feline ones, but they have their own creepy cleft-lip kinda thing going on.

The smile gets you? I think what gets me is that people are somehow attracted to cartoon cat people.
I'm sure there are some things you like that I don't understand the attraction of too.
I'm sure there is, and its all fine by me.

Okay, I found the particular user that sparked me to ask this question... http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/PatSilverFox

I don't want to single him out, so "PatSilverFox", if you're out there please don't take offense at my using your avatar as an example. It's just the least traumatizing way for me to get my point across. And if you do read this, maybe you have the answer to my question.
What a dick move singling out a user and making such a shitty thread. Its obvious you are new to the internet, maybe you should stick to facebook aned other safe things so you don't hurt yourself.
