I don't personally know anybody who identifies as a furry, but whenever I see a person with a furry for an avatar, I see one constant.

That smile. Every damn furry picture has it, the same creepy(in my opinion, anyways) smile. So can anyone tell me what that's all about or is it just some unknown trend that isn't going away any time soon.

EDIT: To specify on "Furries", I mean the ones who use anthropomorphic forms of various animals. The ones that look like people, but with more hair and funny noses.
Not sure if being a Pony that plays games like the old version of Nintendo counts for anything. But to be On Topic: I would say that the smile gives off a friendly impression since mostly cartoon characters or animated characters in general like to have a positive atmosphere about them. Saying that, I think it's truly something when people are able to have Furry Avatars cause think about it - the majority aren't accepting Furries yet but slowly people are accepting them depending on their reasons.

What I mean, is that I am happy for the Users who are able to have Furry Avatars. Power to them I say! What I wouldn't be ok with is if that User had a Furry Avatar and then put people down in general. You should be respectful period to whoever is on here, in my opinion at least. In order to move forward as a Community, we must understand one another. I won't judge you since you dislike their smiling, but I will say this - talk to a Furry User and she how he/she's like. Perhaps that will be the best way to know how they are rather then the Avatar.
I'm not bothered by the person being furry, I just don't particularly like a lot of the drawings. I thought about what it was that sparked that reaction in me, and I remembered how most furry drawings(just the humanoid ones) had a smile like that. I've read a few posts by people with avatars like that, usually don't even notice them first. A lot of them are fairly intelligent, so I'm not inclined to disrespect the person, regardless of fetishes. Only a few of those I don't tolerate.

isnt pretty much everyone interested in sex tho? I mean really if you want to be against something you should be against people who are attracted to tali, I mean shes not even from the earth, shes an alien that probably doesnt even have the same equipment that most of the animals on earth have

As mentioned before, the smile seems creepy since the anatomy does not normally allow for it. The smile itself is somewhat of a trend since it is difficult to accurately display emotion using not entirely human characteristics. As a result some strictly human displays are tacked onto animalistic faces.

On the subject of "furries" in general. There's nothing inherently wrong or creepy about it. There are many admirable characteristics of animals that are deficient or entirely lacking in humanity. The idea of a being that includes the best characteristics of both humanity and another admired species is an attractive one.

It's only bad if you support them in their insanity.

The right thing to do is to not oppose them, but rather take them by the hand and show them the right way. The right way being "not thinking you're a god damn woodland animal".

okay, seeing as no one seems to have come up with an answer yet (well, after reading the first page anyway, its too late to go through all six of them) I can tell you that the smile, is just a smile, it is NOT meant to creep anyone out, it isn't meant to be weird.... its just a smile

Also, (this is directed at the people who seem to have the biggest problem with us) I don't think a lot of you guys on here seem to have a good grasp of what being a furry means, we are NOT all fursuiters, nor do we spend all of our time *shudders* lusting after pokemon, YES there are a few of us, but they are NOT the majority, and I think that anyone who thinks otherwise should man up and do some damn research before making such claims, I am sick and tired of people hating on what they don't understand, grow up.

With that being said I am now going to take a very large advil and go to bed.

Someone can't appreciate a good looking female...
I like to keep myself open in what I find attractive. And that my friend, I find attractive.

Well I've already had my say way back on page two of this thread, so all I'm gonna say is if your a furry, cool, if you aren't, cool. People like different things, m'kay?

That's actually just a small subset of furries. In actuality the term Furry refers to anyone who identifies themselves as or with an animal, be it mythological or real.
That's one of the definitions anyway.

I tried to find something amusing to summarize this thread and certain sentiments.

Instead, I found Tourette's Guy dubbed over anime with anthropomorphized animals. It's even better than I could have hoped for.

Don't think I like furry porn just because I read Redwall and considered a furry avatar for a short time.

Before my anonyMen won out.

As for the smile, there are creepier expressions worn by furries. As far as this goes, it's far from the worst.

In my travels of the internet I see 4 groups:

1. Fursuit sex fiends
2. Furries who wish they were fursuit sex fiends
3. People begging for acceptance
4. Batshit crazies i.e. "I'm not a human who thinks I'm an arctic fox, I'm an arctic fox who looks like a human. Honest."
And then there's the voraphile ones. These tend to be the ones I hang out with, seeing as we share a fetish.

I think this is less a furry thing then a "People on DA don't know what smiles look like" thing. To be fair, I don't know how a smile could be made with a muzzle, so my hat is off to anyone who makes it look recognizable.
