The season felt very short, and the final episode very rushed.
Twilight's apotheosis was the inevitable conclusion of the show, but where does it go from here?

It was alright. I'd say not great, but not bad either. We all know it was rushed, but the Trixie and Discord episodes were awesome, and Sleepless in Ponyville was amazing.

This clearly was something thrown at the writers and they had to try and squeeze it in. With that in mind, I think they did an excellent job of it. I just really hope they don't go around calling her "princess twilight" all the time and bowing. If they are going to sell the whole "she is still just twilight, just with wings" stuff then they need to make sure Celestia, Luna, and Cadance are still more Princessy than twilight. and who the heck knows where the plot will go.

But the part with Celestia singing was pretty touching. Gave me the feels. :'(

I hated the last episode, it was all just a tool for selling extra alicorn twilight toys to little girls. Also, obvious Mary Sue fan-pandering to bronies.

They should have remembered what made the earlier episodes good and give us more of that through this season. Also, they shouldn't have gotten so self-referential with more Trixie, and Luna, and Discord and cameos, they should have given us something new.

Also, was I the only one who tilted his head at the animation at times? It just felt... off somehow but I can't put my finger on it.
It seemed very obviously flash at times. Especially when they smiled. Especially Applejack's smile. It just looked...so wrong and out of place.

My reaction to every episode this season, especially the last one can be summed up with 7 characters R, E, A, L, L, Y and ?.

I feel in love with the show for it's way of listening to it's audience but all I can say is "stop trying to please us so much". Everything done this season just seem to reek of desperation. And the twi becoming an alicorn thing........ I mean Christ. Sure, every show will eventually jump the shark so it's possibly better to make a big deal out of it rather than pretending like it didn't happen [cough] return of discord [/Cough]. I won't tell the writers how to do their job but I will hit them in the face with book called 'continuity 101' and go "good luck on season 4"

In my opinion, everything seemed so rushed and forced. Over all, I was disappointed. But hey, for all I know season 4 can be television gold and will put all other cartoons to shame.

(Note: This topic WILL contain spoilers for the final episode. You have been warned.)

(Note 2: If you're only entering this topic to hate on MLP, turn around right now. Trying to have a legitimate discussion here.)

So, with Season 3, arguably the most controversial season for the show yet, out of the way, let us take a moment to reflect. What's your opinion on this season? Good? Bad? Indifferent?

Personally, if I had to sum up the season in a single word, it would be "mixed". Now, don't get me wrong, there are PLENTY of good episodes this season. "Too Many Pinkie Pies", "Magic Duel", and "Sleepless in Ponyville" being standout great episodes. But then again, there are a few episodes I would charitably describe as being... lackluster. "One Bad Apple", "Wonderbolts Academy", and "Games Ponies Play" come to mind, in my opinion.

Now obviously, the show isn't solid gold 100% of the time, but the quality of episodes did seems a bit wonky this time around. "Crystal Empire", "Keep Calm and Flutter On", and today's episode, "Magical Mystery Cure" were all somewhat flawed episodes in my mind, despite not really being bad at all.

I'm not saying that the show is getting worse by any means. I have full confidence that Season 4 will be great. I'm just saying that I hope they don't do another short season like this again. I feel like, since it was so short, the flaws in the show seem to stand out more.

As for the finale itself, I liked it, but as I previously noted, it's rather uneven. It kinda felt like two episodes smashed together, with one half being about the cutie mark swap, and the second half being the coronation, and the two halves don't really feel THAT well-connected. Neither is BAD, but it was noticeable in my book.

So yeah, my opinion is that this season is mixed, but still overall fairly good. Not as good as Season 2, but still good.

What about the rest of you?
I already made a thread just like this, with a big old wall o' text and everything.

Looks like I took too long typing it though, as yours was up first. Anyways if you want to see my thoughts, head there, as I'd rather not copypaste that massive post.

EDIT: I wonder why I can't find my thread when scrolling through the Off-Topic Discussion section. It's seriously not appearing anywhere, even though it's had more recent posts than some of the threads on the front page.

Echoing everyones opinions on the internet, the finale was rushed and was in desperate need of being a two parter. Not to say that it was bad. There needed to be more conversation in the episode and less songs because the songs were half the episode (or at least songs that were a bit more memorable, though there were some standouts.)Ultimately the episode was fun to watch but could've used more development in the plot and not drop the cutie mark story so quickly. Supposedly it's part 1 of a 3 part story, so hopefully we'll see more in season 4.

As for the entirety of the season, it was a mixed bag, some good, some bad, and some just meh. Probably my least favourite season out of the 3. Hopefully season 4 has a better showing.

Pretty mixed honestly.
There weren't any episodes that I considered bad, but my range of emotions went from "it was okay" to "that was pretty good".
And as for the finale, too many songs. Granted I enjoyed those songs but there were WAY too many of them

I'm still watching the first part, but I have to ask...when the cutie marks were switched, why did Applejack become a tailor? Rarity's special talent is finding gems, not making clothes. Shouldn't she have become a miner?
This question came up a couple of times in the TV Tropes article too.

My personal theory is that, since the swap-up affected the ponies' perceptions of what they should be doing but did nothing to their overall personalities, they would naturally have retained their memories of each other - if only on a subconscious level. Applejack, for example, would first and foremost have associated Rarity's "Three Diamonds" - cutie mark with Rarity herself and her dressmaking business, rather than the concept of mining.

Short answer: Meh

I just didn't feel as happy and sad as I did at the second season's finale (wasn't around for the first). After the second season's finale I watched the BBBFF song and This Day Aria loads of times, yet I couldn't bring myself to watch Love is in Bloom because I felt so sad the show was ending for nearly a whole year. I don't have that feeling with this one. As for the main season, sure I was hyped when it started but by the end it just became a bore for me. I guess most shows have to have the boring season, and quite usually the season after that is the best (Walking Dead Season 3, Breaking Bad Season 4, etc) so I'm hoping that the full-length season next time is better than this one.

Most of you thought I was going to say the Yahtzee joke again. Fooled ya'!

It wasn't good to be honest, I stopped caring after the first season really and this just shows I don't have a reason to watch it anymore.

The season was to short to have as many standouts, but I think it was about as good as expected. Better then early season one, not as good as season 2. The Crystal Empire has some pretty intriguing world building, and I think that there is a genuinely epic build up with Twilight being an Alicorn (Though they need some practice animating her wings.) Last episode was a tad too musical but eh, they are always experimenting. Music wise, this season was a bit of a let down, with only "Babs Seed" and "Raise this Barn" standing out, and those took me a while to appreciate. Overall, I feel like the same effort, thought, and quality went into the season as the other seasons, and wasn't quite as memorable by sheer luck, the finale was a bit rushed, but they have set up some fantastic places that they can go with the plot. I'm intrigued by a group of female characters who are powerful by there own merits, with nuanced personalities, and with a surprisingly rich list of both allies AND a highly iconic Rouges Gallery.

Overal, I feel like any shortcoming of Season 3 is just a transition period into a story or even greater epicness.

- Twilight's transformation felt so forced, the plot of the episode felt like a filler episode with a huge pay-off instead of a legitimate challenge with a suitable reward. It's like playing an RPG and an NPC tells you to "go kill some bandits" and when you do it the guy says "Here is the best sword in the game and a huge mansion, also you are omniscient".
I love it when someone says exactly what I'm trying to say but better. It just feels unearned. I mean, honestly, that was Twilight's big test? The whole cutie mark dilemma seems like average episode stuff to me.

If they had split the episode into a two parter and had a better and more realistic transition into the transformation then I would not have this problem, the fact that there were so many songs also meant there was a lack of story progression for the most part and that time could of been used better.

Also, everything seemed derelict e.g. the farm and the dress shop yet it had only been a few hours, no way could of that much damage been caused in that ammount of time!

Oh, needed more Pinkamena Diane Pie too.
Pink pony is best pony. XD

Anyways, long story short - I really liked the episode, even though it has quite a few problems. However, my main concern that the show could become "The Twilight Sparkle Show" still stands. I don't like seeing the rest of the Mane 6 reduced to side characters for Twi's story too often, yet the two previous two-parters and to an extent this episode were all just that. They were more focused on in this episode, fortunately, but it's still in the end all about Twi. As much as I like Twilight, she's only one reason out of six that bronies in general watch the show. If it wasn't for the mixed writing quality of S2 and S3 along with those two-parters' emphasis on Twilight alone, I would probably not have an issue with Twilicorn. But with those in mind, I can't help but still be concerned a bit, even if this ep being surprisingly good and Amy Roger's returned has made me calm down a fair bit about it all.
