At this point in the game, PS3 and Xbox are on fairly even ground.

If you were asking "Which should I buy as my first next-gen console", I'd probably say PS3. But since you're already so invested in the Xbox, I don't really see any reason to change.

Upgrade to the Elite. From what I've heard (as a PS3 owner), it doesn't Red Ring like the older ones do.
I got an Elite right after it was launched. I can testify that my XBox Elite has NEVER RRoD, ever. If you are planning to get another XBox and staying with that console, I second the notion to get the Elite. I haven't heard anything good or bad about the Slim version so I really couldn't give you a fair shake on it.

When mine red ringed (after swearing a lot and smashing it with a cricket bat), I saved up and bought a slim one because they're quieter, look nicer, have a bigger hard drive and are smaller so it fits on my desk nicely. I'd recommend doing that, if it's possible.

I would try this first
http://support.xbox.com/en-us/pages/xbox-360/troubleshoot/hardware/flashing-lights-wizard.aspx
if that doesn't work I would probably go with the new xbox slim which apparently wont red ring but will take 200-300 US$ from ya.

I had my Xbox for about 3-4 years and got it repaired for free, when this problem occurs, Microsoft do it for free, if you cause the damage (which you haven't) you have to pay.

Get it repaired or get a new one :) I would advise repair though.

Well, the first time my box ringed it was due to overheating and in that and a few other cases it'll just start working again a few Hrs later, so check if you can turn it back on . The latter 2 times I had to get it repaired, but there are tons of videos and instructions on how to repair it yourself.

Oh and next time you get a console, get the warranty.

My Xbox effectively red ringed last week, my brother reset the router and it refuses to connect to the network. It happened like 2 years back, and I had no idea what I did to fix it then, I just stopped using it and it magically re-connected a few months later. I bought a PS3 today, not because of that, but because the exclusives are fucking awesome. I picked it up with Motorstorm: Apocalypse, s'dope. I've always thought the PS3 was the better console, I only used the Xbox to play with friends. I haven't even touched the thing in months now though, and it's fucking useless without an internet connection.

I'd say get a PS3, Uncharted, Little Big Planet, Infamous, Motorstorm, Metal Gear Solid, they just fuck up the Xbox, at least for me anyway.

Get the elite. No red rings, ever again. However, there are times when it gets slow-ish.

Not on warranty, got it as a gift when 4 years ago for my 18th birthday.
RRoD is free to repair, as far as I recall.

As for wheter it's worth picking up a PS3 - not really. Not unless you don't plan to use the Xbox. If you've enjoyed the Xbox save your money and get it repaired.

so you play four player splitscreen with 3 controllers?
buy a ps3 or a gaming pc, they are both better than your 360.

Sorry! Really, I truly am. Been there, done that. Had to buy a new one, because they told me it was too fried to repair.

Hi guys, decided to sign up for the forums instead of just watching videos and stuff. My 360 was freezing last night, and I got the red rings today. I got a fair amount of games for it, and 3 controllers. My question is should I either send it in for repairs, get a new elite system, or sell the controllers and my games to put towards a PS3? The one thing I really like my xbox for is when me and my friends hang out we have some beer and play some four player split-screen online. I don't know if there are any games like that for the PS3 or not. Trying to decide on what to do, thanks. :)
If you've had it for less than 3 years, as soon as it red rings, your warranty automatically extends two years. So you're good. You don't even have to pay for shipping :). You will have to wait like 5 weeks though, so that sucks.
