If you make money as an entertainer that's fine. I don't see why people have so much of a problem with it. Though some of these people don't actually do anything noteworthy.
Each case is different to me.

1. Shane Dawson - $315,000

Average videos, very little effort. If he makes money, great, but 315 grand a year? the fuck?

2. The Annoying Orange - $288,000

He makes worse videos with slightly more effort. When your premise is something that's supposed to be annoying, that's never a good sign.

3. Philip DeFranco - $181,000

I don't mind this. He makes a news show, and being as I find it more interesting and informative than the actual news, he deserves some credit. Plus in addition to cinematics to a certain extent, he has to do a shit ton of research. So his job consists of newscastor/opinions columnist writer/research/public speaker and the result comes out good. I can't complain that he makes a living off of it. If this where Ray William Johnson on the other hand...

4. Ryan Higa - $151,000

I hate his videos, but he does put some sort of effort into them. He's overrated, but at least he isn't...

5. Fred - $146,000

Fuck this kid. Seriously. Literally any human being on the planet with a video camera and windows movie maker can do what he does.

6. Shay Carl - $140,000

I've seen a few of his videos. from what I've seen the skits that he puts effort into have very high production value. No problems here

7. Mediocre Films - $116,000

I don't think this number is accurate. This guy only has like, 50,000 subscribers and his videos all have like, 10,000 views or under. I don't know how he would be making that much money. Don't like his stuff. There's effort, but not nearly enough of it.

8. Smosh - $113,000

I can see why they have a following, and their videos are well made. I just don't think they're funny. Still, they put in the effort and they deserve some compensation

9. The Young Turks - $112,000

This is a news show. Like actually a news show. They have all the equipment and the set and everything. Plus that money gets split between everyone who works there, so they would actually be underpaid were they not sponsored already.

10. Natalie Tran- $101,000

Don't like. She does some unfunny skits and lame vlogs. Not a fan.

Wow. It's just like what the JD AI from Metal Gear Solid 2 said. YouTube rewards talentless shitheads. And of course the trolling and flagging.

I confess to a degree of jealousy, but I don't hate them for being successful.

Trust me, if I had the talent and charisma to draw people to something I did like that, I'd exploit it in a heart beat.

Ugh. I hate Shane Dawson.

Youtube gave us Fred. However, it also gave us the greatest thing in the universe, Youtube Poop.

I am torn.
My thoughts to the letter. Worst thing(s) in the universe + one of the best = Me hating youtube and loving it all the same.

I don't think people here realize what goes into youtube channels, especially when they get ads and money from them.

There are requirements for such things, as well as you need computers to handle that, as well as people to actually click the ads in the first place. You also need to consider the editing and time that goes into the creation of each show they make (Each cut you see is a different scene, meaning that had to be edited, which can be annoying as hell.)

Also, by agreeing to this ad thing, they also have to agree to certain guidelines. While since I am not part of this group, and know little of such guidelines, I get the feeling they are terribly annoying, and restrictive in some ways.

That, and I wonder how accurate these numbers really are. What did they do, track all finances for Youtube or something?

K, wow. just tried to watch a "Fred" video. I got, maybe 30 seconds in before serious thoughts of suicide started to take root. And now his fucking voice won't leave my head.
Seriosuly? That little dick is making money?
No.
I think he should be replaced by Freddiew on that list.
I mean:
Much more awesome, amiright?

All internet celebrities are famous for being stupid. It's just... honestly, I think humanity is going to fuck itself up.

If I can graduate and get a starting position at $160,000 then these guys deserve their money as much as I do. Psychiatry pays so much in Iowa, and there are a lot of job opportunities although it's a smaller field out here.

Hopefully these are the people that will have a VERY quick and hard fall from "grace". I only know of one person who WAS a Youtube partner (Cloud8745). But, he quit that. The only other one I can think of is JoshJepson. Those were the only ones with Youtube in positions like that who I thought were good. Others are just senseless, humorless crap.
If Youtube...no scratch that...Google has the money to blow on people like this, why can't they fix other problems? (False copyright bullshit for one. And I believe that the disappearing links in their new channel design still happens though I'm not sure of that 100%)

Of course we are, it's just a matter of how we do it.
