Now, I may be just a bit of a jealous guy but am I the only one bothered by people who make thoughtless videos yet get paid that much to do it? I know it's really no different than teen stars making money off of just being the in thing at the moment, but this for whatever reason just seems to bother me on a different level.

What does the Escapist think of all this?
You are coming off as extremely harsh.

Phillip DeFranco does more than make "thoughtless videos".

His videos are actually rather smart and pretty funny. They deal with the popular topics that kids want to hear, and he makes the unpopular boring subjects rather interesting to watch.

Its a little sad that you seem to think they are all conspiring and making easy blood money, when in fact, they are just doing what they love.

There is a fundamental misunderstanding prevalent with people replying to this subject. People keep saying that "They're entertainers, they deserve the money for making all of these people laugh"

Well, that's wrong. Say we have something objectively talented. There will be positive opinion and negative opinion. The negative opinion being that of "They are objectively talented, but they don't entertain me".

This is in the exact opposite of a video by a dickhead vlogger, where the negative opinion will be much larger and only consisting of "They aren't talented, they do tacky jumpcuts, "random" humor, mislead viewers and have bad jokes". In case you are wondering what the positive opinion is, it's basically this: "LOL I LUV U ShANE DORSUN" "LOLOLOL" "your so cute" "first comment"

Get the picture? There's a difference between being butthurt and being pissed off that nobody decent is getting noticed. I can't believe this, people are on such high horses I can't even see them; and it's only to express elitism anyway.

Fred makes money of the bile he throws on the internet? There is no justice in this world.

You hate them for earning money easily?

I don't understand. You should really distinguish hate and jealousy.

Sorry OP, I don't hate people because they have a heck of a lot more good business sense than me.

Who cares? The money is there to be earned and these people worked out a way to do it. Good on them. It is plain ol' Green Eyed Monster to disparage them for it.

Not to say that i think this investigation is a cake. But a research paid by yahoo that says things that would get anyone 'angry' or 'jealous THEN angry' about youtube, a site that is owned by Google... i would take that research with a lot of caution. It's like asking a vegetarian what's the best way to cook a stake.

Also, I would love to make money out of thin air like some of those people so i can't really complain.

Fred must die a painful death. His high pitched sped up voice makes my ears bleed, his pointless stupid videos burn my eyes and his movie crushes my soul. He's a talentless douche in a 10 year old mindset.

Talentless hacks getting paid exhorbitant amounts of money from their undeserved popularity while better entertainers languish in obscurity? Well, it's good to know that I'm still on planet Earth.

Slightly more seriously, I know nothing about any of the individuals listed, but that seems to be the summary of this post. It is nothing new, and there is nothing much anyone can do aside from killing all of their fans.

Oh? How much money do you make yearly?

In 2009, the median income of households in the United States was $44,389. And only 7% of people living in the US had an income of over $100,000.

So in other words, yeah, that's actually quite a bit of money they're making. And for doing pretty much nothing. None of them are even that funny or interesting to watch.

Oh and don't forget, we can also thank YouTube for Justing friggin' Bieber. So yeah, YouTube is pretty much the ultimate evil in my mind.
Perhaps my family is just more well-off than others, or that I live in an area that is more well-off, but that's not a HUGE amount. It's reasonable, especially for the sort of thing they do. They make infinitely less than actors do, certainly. (Well, popular ones.)

Again, if you were given the chance to make weekly YouTube videos and get paid that much, you probably would. Because Google has the money to pay these folks this much does not make them evil, it makes them rather generous, in fact. Why in the world would they support things that people weren't watching? They don't care about the "quality" of the video, as long as their users like it. They're not going to start catering to the folks who make "artistic" videos, because they get less views. They give the masses what they want, because they must be treated equally to us.

In my eyes it is mostly luck. I have seen 75% of them and hate them all. I would say there are at least 10,000 Youtubers who are better than these guys, even if they do suck.

Many of Shane's, Philip De Franco's and Shay Carl's videos have titles that are barely relevant to the video and thumbnail pictures of half-naked girls that appear nowhere in the videos.
That doesn't bother YouTube one bit. And that makes me really angry, because this stuff goes against their guidelines and they don't seem to give a shit.
Ever since Youtube became profit driven, they started to tolerate popular videos that lied in order to draw viewers. When someone posts a music video, rather than delete it, Youtube replaces the audio with a crappy song. These videos draw millions of views and keep lining Youtube's pockets - especially since the advertisers still pay if a user starts watching a movie and quits after 5 seconds.

Well it could be much worse. Most of the people I'm subscribed to are just really talented AMV makers.

Hey, these guys are popular and an easy cash cow if they were able to use them for advertisements.

Those stars like to make these videos and honestly, if they can get paid for it, good for them.
