Just make Elder Scrolls 5.
Oblivion is a decision-making game so everyone?s story was very different ?. How is that gona translate into a movie?
Without making the main character a Mary Sue? It's not gonna translate. It's gonna suck.

It's a pretty generic name, I think that it's not necessarily going to be based on the game.

Remember Watto, from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace? I could be wrong, but Star Wars fans and nerds in general (myself included) did not, unlike the majority of the viewing public, see him as a space jew [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watto#Reception].
I don't think George Lucas is anti-semitic. What with being Jewish and everything.
According to his Wikipedia page [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Lucas#Personal_life], he was raised as a Methodist and is now a "Buddhist Methodist". Whatever that means.
Makes sense, actually. My Aunt is a 'Buddhist Catholic'.

Oblivion is an rpg, and they would have to define the main character, in addition to containing all the wonder of exploration found in oblivion.

Clearly Hollywood morons never heard about Morrowind. That game had an actual story worth telling. Morrowind story might even make a good fantasy movie if they put enough effort into the project and make it the next LoTR

Personally I think that the story of Morrowind would translate far better into a movie than Oblivion.

Oblivion was incredibly bland and focused on the everyday grind and the occasional tussle with story related characters. Morrowind had a couple of points that would translate well into the big screen.

For an example take the final boss. In Morrowind you have to dodge a dark demi-God in a volcano while you use the tools of the God who created the world to destroy the God that the demi-God was building. (I know I use the word God there a lot but the whole story is too long for me to type and for you to read.)

In Oblivion the naked elf with a pink mohawk was furiously masturbating while a dragon bit a giant who had rolled around in a pit of E99.

There's also that in Morrowind the protagonist knows nothing of the place, whereas in Oblivion the character has been around enough to get thrown into a local jail.

Then there's how well the stuff converts into a movie. You can pretty easily condense some of the things in Morrowind like winning over the tribes and houses, while I doubt the Daedric invasion of Oblivion would have as much impact with audiences if you showed the hero clearing a single gate, or had a rocky montage.

Regardless, I'm not very excited about the whole Oblivion thing, found the game to be bland, I can't see it in my mind as a movie, let alone a good movie, and overall I think we're going to end up with something along the lines of "Alone in the Dark" if this actually happends.

If it follows my playing experience, it will just be two hours of someone looking in barrels and trying to pick pocket other people.
Rofl.

If it follows my game experience it will be 2 hours of someone jumping across the countryside as I found that jumping lvl'd acrobatics, which in turn lvl'd me.

This is a terrible idea. The way Oblivion is played just doesn't translate into a movie, at all.

Well, the autobots learned english from the internet, so it wouldn't be surprising to know one of them learned how to talk "jive". I never saw the harm with those two robots. I found them humorous, but thats probably just because racial stereotypes are sometimes funny to me. As long as they're meant to be funny that is.

To make it short, Zenimax Media has registered a trademark for a film called 'Oblivion', most likely a remake of the game in movie form.

So, what do you guys think of the subject? I, for one, am worried that the film may portray the game in a negative light, as has happened with so many Game-based movies in the past.
Meh, it'll probably just be some LOTR wannabe clone on par with all those "original movies" the syfy/sci-fi/whatever channel is so fond of making. Could be good for a laugh, but I just dont think that Oblivion is the kind of licence that'll finally give us a good video game movie (I havent seen the Prince of Persia one so I cant comment on that)
Welcome to the Escapist!
Thanks man, glad to be here.
Hello! Don't go in the basement.

OT: IF they go through with it, I'd like to see a Dark Elf protagonist.

I'm probably going to get burned for this but well... I thought the actually storyline you follow in Oblivion was shit. Just your generic fantasy story which probably wouldn't make a good movie. The movie would seem like a LOTR rip off.

The story of Oblivion isn't the reason I play it. No it's the adventuring you do your self. You don't have to follow the main quest... I've never finished the main quest. I've made my own adventure. Travelling from A to B, doing quests for random people. Walking the earth like David Carrigan (I think that's his name) in Kung Fu.

I don't think some thing like that would translate well in a movie. Perhaps a T.V series... Not a movie though.
I never finished the main storyline either, I just spent most of my time wandering around til I found a dungeon, grabbing everything that wasnt nailed down, harvesting the fields of honest hardworking farmers and trying to find a good mages robe that didnt make my baby faced character look like a twat.

The story really was fairly generic and dull, I can barely remember anything that happened. Something about a cult who never dropped any decent loot?

I don't want it but will see it if and only if they use Patrick Stuart and Sean Bean again.
Those guys are brilliant.

With a title like that, any number of movie concepts could turn out to be that movie.
It could indeed be based on Elder Scrolls 4, but it just as likely be something like a journey through Hell, or set in modern day with explosions 'n shit everywhere, or even something completely out of the range of most people's trains of thought when they think of the word oblivion.

What? NO!!!!!
I assume it will be the main quest... the only crappy questline in the game (imo).
Plus... the whole charm of the game was the adventure! Going in random caves, exploring the country side, doing random shit!
Edit: Plus... there is no defined main character.

Really? The story isn't the strength of the game. Not by a long shot.

How are they going to have a 2-3 hour film about a person whose sex, age, race (or species), are all ambiguous and who works his/her way to become the Archmage, Gray Fox, Sheogorath, Arena champion, head of the fighter's guild, Listener for the Dark Brotherhood, and who saves the land from the daedric lord Dagon while doing odd tasks and tinkering with vampirism?

Not a good idea. Dark Brotherhood quests or Main Quest are the only serviceable ideas. Mages Guild is a maybe.
