Really? The story isn't the strength of the game. Not by a long shot.

How are they going to have a 2-3 hour film about a person whose sex, age, race (or species), are all ambiguous and who works his/her way to become the Archmage, Gray Fox, Sheogorath, Arena champion, head of the fighter's guild, Listener for the Dark Brotherhood, and who saves the land from the daedric lord Dagon while doing odd tasks and tinkering with vampirism?
Yep, and then at the very end of the main story, someone else besides the main character delivers the killing blow to the great evil while you just stand there and watch. What a great climax that would make.

Just make Elder Scrolls 5.
Oblivion is a decision-making game so everyone?s story was very different ?. How is that gona translate into a movie?
Really? The only decision I made was "I'll be a light armour martial character" and "I'll do every god damn side quest". Plot wise, it was one massive railroad whih you could take entirely at your own pace. I suppose there was thhat one chap in Paradise who gave you an option, but that was it.

The only difference between your ending and mine is that my wood elf threw on chameleon armour and backstabbed the guy to death whereas your redguard/khajit/argonian/whatever threw on heavy armour/bitchin' spells/ridiculous dodging. Storywise, they were the same.

Hollywood can overcome that easily. The protagonist can be an Imperial Warrior, because they're the most relatable and the hero always has a huge sword, which a motely crue of saidekicks following him around to make up for anyone moaning that there wasn't enough magic or bowmanship. Side plots will be ignored because they'll take up too much time.

The main storyline in Oblivion wasn't even good.
Do producers just look at games salesnumbers, and say "Let's do that!" without knowing WHAT they are going to film?

But oblivion has a weak plot even for a game... I mean isn't the point of the Elder Scrolls series to make the main plot secondary to other things?

My thoughts are that it would be difficult to make a game based on a relatively generic (though well done) fantasy RPG. It sounds like a terrible idea.

Oblivion is all about choice, I can choose to stop oblivion from happening, i can choose to be in certain guilds. I can choose to doungen raid. a Movie tells you what is going to happen, that takes everything away from oblivion it's self. Now i probably will go see it because oblivion is my all time favorite game of ever, but i can't say i will enjoy it at all.

To make it short, Zenimax Media has registered a trademark for a film called 'Oblivion', most likely a remake of the game in movie form.

So, what do you guys think of the subject? I, for one, am worried that the film may portray the game in a negative light, as has happened with so many Game-based movies in the past.
Meh, it'll probably just be some LOTR wannabe clone on par with all those "original movies" the syfy/sci-fi/whatever channel is so fond of making. Could be good for a laugh, but I just dont think that Oblivion is the kind of licence that'll finally give us a good video game movie (I havent seen the Prince of Persia one so I cant comment on that)
Prince of Persia is good in its own right but the only thing it shares with the game is the main characters, the dagger of time and the plot thats about it.

Not to rain on anyone's parade but aren't they just protecting the trademark?
Yea they are but they could do it a whole lot better by just making another elder scrolls game. Honestly I wanted to play an ES game on ps3 where i could become a lycan like in Morrowind.

The beginning credits are going to be a five minute loading scene.
The loading screens are incredibly brief compared to the likes of HL2 (moreso before the update that made the loading times a bunch faster), never longer than 30 seconds for me. =/

But yeah, Oblivion may be a nice game but you can't really pretend it does borrow heavily from lord of the rings plus what works for a game story doesnt work for a film (Compare the Riddick game to the Chronicles of Riddick film).

Oblivion wouldn't translate well to movie form, really as much as I try I don't see a good movie coming out of this.

This is ridiculous, the games have no set protagonist. How would that work? Unless they do it from the point of view of someone else in the game who is doing things along side the main story and you hear references to some main events of the game during the film, that could work.

Wha? Oblivion let you change the storyline? What game were you playing? I was playing a crappy excuse for Elder Scrolls with retarded mechanics (enemies leveling with you making leveling up pointless) and a story that made me the messenger boy.

As for this movie I wouldn't watch it because Oblivion cannot be a movie if you just rip from the game. The protagonist would just run around for a few hours doing messenger boy tasks. gee, great story.
This...

...but also the protagonist should be jumping constantly to build up his stats.

Actaully leveling up wasn't pointless, it made it harder to fight uinless you mini/max'ed every single action in the game.

Believe it or not I could see it as a movie, the only problem would be the main character. (Who the hell would he look like/be?) As long as Vin Diesel isn't playing the main character, I am fine.

How can they just make an Elder Scrolls Oblivion movie? That is the fourth game in the series. They would have to start with the first game.
No they wouldn't?

The games have little to do with each other except for background and lore.
The storylines are unrelated.
They are acctually, the games are pretty chronological.
But not importantly so.

I played Oblivion before Morrowind and it made no difference.
It could easy be a stand-alone game.
