I don't really care. What's gonna happen, all the addicts are going to whine about not getting their fix? "Get the government out of my marijuana, I deserve the right to smoke it." Oh, please, even if they do care about those rights, it's rarely the principle that they are arguing for; they just want to get high. Besides, those who really want it will find a way to get it anyway. The laws in place only keep it from getting ridiculously out of hand.

Your avatar scares me...., but yeah your right. This isn't like women or blacks shouldn't vote because we feel they are lesser then us. They just want a legal high, compare the two things. Blacks back in the 50's/60's couldn't even sit at the counter of a eating place just because of their skin color. Women were deemed a mans property are one point, where she was to be like his trophy to show off for social status (We still do that now some what...). Now compare someone screaming about pot not being legal because they want their high. Now I feel personally we should make it legal ONLY because alcohol and tobacco is legal and are more deadly. But for a pot head to go, "they are taking are rights" is just sad. It's not as bad as tea baggers (or who ever was against "social medicine") even they we have public institution which are *cough* social though are tax dollars *cough*. But I stand by my statement Vote or Shut Up.

So you didn't vote, but you're complaining about the outcome? You realize if you DID vote you could have made a difference, and I can guarantee the people who fall into the "I don't vote" category is huge. People who don't vote shouldn't complain about the outcome. You didn't do your part to make a difference, or even attempt to, so why should you be bothered about how it went?
Well said, good sir, well said.
But damn I wanted this to pass.

Sorry fellow Californians, Marijuana is STILL illegal
Proposition 19

Yes 3,297,590 46.2%

i guess California is still as ass-backwards as ever, especially since it was SHOWN that this would generate tax revenue for the government that they could have given to schools or to fixing roads.

this is why i don't vote, the masses are stupid and to vote against them is stupider

EDIT: Proof that it would not have made a difference if I voted - http://www.sos.ca.gov/contest_summary.pdf

97% of people voted, so even if EVERYONE in california voted, it still would not have gone through, because the majority won by more than 7%.

i also have every right to complain just as anyone else who's not registered nor able to vote

are you saying anyone under the age of 18 has no rights? are you also saying people who have no way of registering to vote have no rights (i have no way because i can't drive, can not learn how to drive because i have no teacher, and have no car or money)

anyways, this thread was SUPPOSED to be about discussing the results, not trolling on me for not voting. seriously.
Sorry?
I'm HAPPY!

Poetic. Simply Poetic.

The prop I wanted to go through didn't and now I'm upset! I'm going to complain on an online gaming forum about it! Lost faith in humanity, halo sucks, people are sheep, serious thread is serious, etc.

Lots of propositions fail and lots of people lose there job, or worst, because of it. Its a democratic decision and the prop lost, nothing you can do. So, dust yourself off and move on and be thankful that the prop wasn't about weither or not your job will still exist in the morning.

Exactly but if it was legal the Government could actually Tax it and as a controlled substance tax it extremely high. That means the government could actually star paying off its debts. But alas that is not to be.

You, sir, are an idiot. Yes, your one vote is statistically inconsequential. Yes, as George Carlin puts so eloquently, when choosing between a turd sandwich and a giant douche, sometimes its best to make your point by not choosing a side. But this is an issue you clearly have chosen a side on... Why would you not support your position in the only way you can make a stand on a state-wide level? Your government asked you if you were for or against legalizing weed, and as far as they know, you said "I don't care."

Way to stand up for your cause. Bravo.

Uhm, you realize you sound like a retard?
Marijuana isn't addictive...at all....someone just failed hardcore.
Edit: You should go watch the movie The Union, should clear this up for you.
Wow, I guess you're right - I'm a total retard. I forgot that there was no such thing as a "stoner".

But honestly, you realize that YOU sound like a retard? You're actually going to tell me that marijuana is not addictive at all? Even things like television, video games, sex, and food can be addictive. In fact, literally everything can be addictive if you have it enough times.

Clearly you have access to a computer, you can register online. Also you can vote absentee by mail and never leave your house. So if you are too lazy/unmotivated to try than no I don't want to listen to you whine. Furthermore, how can we take you seriously and have a discussion when it was so unimportant to you that you didn't even vote? Only 43.3% of registered Californians voted in a time where our state NEEDS some change. How sad.

As a Scientist I can tell you that that Cannibis, more specifically the acticve chemical agent THC, has absoulutly no, long term effect on the human brain. In laymens terms it is not addictive. That being said, there are many people who enjoy the effects it has on them and enjoy doing it.
Also If I'm not mistaken this thread is about Prop 19, not being passed. Not about Marijuna's, non existant addictiveness.
So take the knowledge I gave you and get back on topic

i did not know you could register in those ways, no one ever taught me how to register to vote.
if i knew it was that simple, i would have, there's such a thing as "ignorance" and i didnt choose not to know. its like saying an african tribe is going to hell for never having heard of god.

really though, im just disappointed that logic does not rule in this country, and most people vote for the stupidest things and i feel like i'd be joining those idiots by attempting to fight against them

OP, as someone pointed out, 97% didn't vote the number was more 40-60% as if you look at the numbers, no county got a 97% turnout of voters. That means alot of registered voters didn't vote. Now if you care about this bill so much that you come onto the escapist and complain about it have you even entertained/considered the idea of getting involved. I don't mean just voting, but campaigning too. People only vote if you energize them about a subject and only vote your way if someone bothers to go out and tell them your point of view and some of the facts. As for corportations able to fund more air time for attack ads, do people honsetly pay attention to those or do they do what I do here on the UK when party political broadcasts come on and just change the channel?

Hmmm, so the total over 18 population of California is only around 7 million?

I don't quite think that's right. Considering that the number of registered voters in California is around 17 million. Therefore, only around 40% of registered voters voted.

You should have voted, regardless of whether you think it'll pass.

Some day we'll get there. Some day.

But marijuana is actually crippling addictive; it's on par with cigarettes in being very hard to quit.
Could you please post your sources and/or credentials for such an assertion? Every study that I have ever read has concluded that there is nothing chemically addictive about marijuana.

One I have a Bachelors in Toxicology, not english.
So you agree then THC has no addictive properties, thus any habitual users are just using it because they enjoy the effects not due to any form of addiction. They just don't feel like quitting.

I think it's a good thing. Due to my lack of experience in the big, wide world, I don't like the idea of drugs being legal. I think we should make stuff like smoking and drinking illegal instead of making some less dangerous stuff legal. Just because it's not as harmful doesn't exactly make it good for you, does it?
Weather it is good for you or not is irrelevant. Should an informed person be denied the intake of a substance just because someone says so, even though they go into it damn well knowing what they are ingesting? Humans have the capacity for logical thought and reasoning which results in our ability to posses free will. In cases such as Marijuana or any controlled substance for that matter, a person's inherent free will is being stifled by petty bureaucracy. IMO: people should be free to do whatever they want to their bodies, and if they make a wrong decision due to not being informed, they deserve to suffer the consequences.
