Sorry fellow Californians, Marijuana is STILL illegal
Proposition 19
No 3,826,487 53.8%
Yes 3,297,590 46.2%

Total votes 7124077

i guess California is still as ass-backwards as ever, especially since it was SHOWN that this would generate tax revenue for the government that they could have given to schools or to fixing roads.

EDIT: Removed some stuff to force people to discuss the ACTUAL ISSUE and not troll on me.

So you didn't vote, but you're complaining about the outcome? You realize if you DID vote you could have made a difference, and I can guarantee the people who fall into the "I don't vote" category is huge. People who don't vote shouldn't complain about the outcome. You didn't do your part to make a difference, or even attempt to, so why should you be bothered about how it went?

Democracy triumphs again.

That wasn't sarcasm, btw. People made a decision. It may or may not be the right one, but it's A decision

Exactly what the fine gent here said. If you make no effort whatsoever to influence the outcome of the vote you can't complain at the result. It just shows that these "ass-backwards" folk still care more than you, OP.

Okay ,think of it this way, when your country votes for a president, only HALF the people legal to vote actually do. lets say only half the voted on this as well. Suddenly you're not just one person anymore are you?

Only half the Americans that can vote do, then they ***** about the president. Get off your lazy ass and vote, or shut the fuck up about your apathetic decision to not make a difference

this is why i don't vote, the masses are stupid and to vote against them is stupider
To be fair, you shouldn't be complaining. If you actually got out and voted for it and failed, I could see it. But coaching from the couch? I just don't feel that much sympathy.

If less people sat at home and said "voting is stupid", they might have actually passed it along.

*shrugs* oh well...

And this reasoning is stupidest.

If you don't vote you don't get to moan about the outcome, simple as.

Drugs should be illegal everywhere, altogether, no matter what kind it is.

And this comes from a guy living in the Netherlands, where the dumbasses who actually get legal weed and such waste their time on the crap.

read this: http://www.sos.ca.gov/contest_summary.pdf

according to this, 97% of people voted, and the majority won by more than 7%, so even if EVERYONE voted, then it still would not have gone through.

Yeah, if you don't even bother to vote, then you forfeit the right to complain about the outcome.

Don't get me wrong, I understand, I feel like my vote is meaningless. But you know what I did yesterday? Even though I was busy as hell, I made the time to vote. This isn't in the context I normally use this phrase, but I feel it still applies: put up, or shut up.

the masses? there was only a 6% margin... imagine if you and every other person like you, who thought voting was meaningless because the "the masses are stupid" had just bothered to turn up... VICTORY for whatever the hell proposition this was...

you might say that your individual vote wouldn't have made a difference, which is true, and a perfectly valid point, assuming so many others didn't believe that as well... in a case such as this, you have no one but yourself to blame... why am i suddenly so reminded of the murder of Kitty Genovese... everyone thought someone else would do something, so no one did anything, and she died... take a half hour, vote for the damn proposition and THEN you get the right to complain if it doesn't go the way you wanted...

just think what you'd be saying if the proposition passed...

I'm not surprised. People say legalizing it would get rid of the illegal weed, but up here in Ontario there are more illegal cigarettes being sold than legal ones now. People complain that the taxes on cigarettes are too high, and they don't want money going to corporations and blah blah. I see the same thing happening with weed.
Not to mention that I think once weed becomes legal, its only so long before some other drug gets legalized as well. Then it becomes one big downward spiral.

Drugs like Aspirin, ... oh, I can't be bothered reeling off the list again.

Perhaps if certain drugs were de-criminalised then we could use them to save lives? But no, to some people every drug is a GATEWAY TO SATAN!

Just like games, and rock & roll, and everything else we're told to hate.

/sigh

And just what is your point? If everyone said "it won't make a differece if I vote" no one would. Your apathetic attitude give you no reason to *****. You didn't voice your opinion, you didn't say what you thought was right, so when it went in the wrong direction, you gave up your right to ***** and piss and moan. I voted for a losing party during Canadian elections. They didn't have a chance in hell. They ususally get 7% of the national votes. Only 60% of the country voted, but even if we all voted, they had no hope in hell, but I stood by my party and I voiced my opinion. I have a right tobitch about the government. You need to shut up about how pointless it is unless you actually attempt it. 97% of the people have the right to voice their opinion, 47% of those who voted may ***** and moan. YOU CANNOT

Doesn't suprise me. Even if it did pass, there are alot other hurddles that you have to deal with. One, being the federal government, two, I don't see local governments giving out business licenses or permits to grow weed in their city either.

What bothers me is that this is the second round of STUPID initiative being voted on. Last one was Gay marriage and this time its pot. First, whether or not people should get married should NOT be voted on. Any two consenting adults should be able to get married regardless. If government was really separated from church, this should not be an issue. Pot needs to be legalized from federal first then maybe state or the federal releasing legalization to the reserve powers. Until then, no matter what state does, federal powers over the state is going to hinder alot of it anyways. Trickle down thing. Frankly, I would be afraid that the federal wouldn't sit there do nothing if the pot initiative passed. I am sure they would pull alot of funding the federal government gives to the California as punishment without making it look like punishment.
