I'd love Inglorious Basterds to win best pic, but it won't happen (my money's on The Hurt Locker).

I'd also really like to watch the ceremony, but I don't have Sky Movies so I'm shit out of luck. Also they start at 1am.

Never really watch it, because I try not to be a corporate tool.

I don't really trust the Academy Awards but if it's going to be Avatar, I'm going to flip out.
Anything - Basterds, The Hurt Locker, District 9, Up in the Air - but Avatar.
Screw you, James.

I've never understood the fascination with the Oscars, or any awards ceremony. Why on earth would I want anyone to win an Oscar? None of my friends or family have been nominated. I couldn't care less who gets one and who doesn't.

Never let Avatar win a fucking award please. I want to find the guys who wrote the film. Seriously? UNOBTAINUM?! SERIOUSLY?! UNOBTANIUM. UNOB-FUCKING-TANIUM. THIS IS THE BEST YOU LAZY FUCKS COULD COME UP WITH?!

/rage

The only award it should get is special effects, and that's it.

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. I like you already.

Off topic: Anyone find it hilarious that Bigelow was Cameron's ex-wife, and they're competing for the Oscars?

This. I liked Avatar, but Hurt Locker is leagues above it storywise.

Still, I loved District 9 more than any other film from last year.

There are absolutely no movies among the nominies that I feel the need to root for.

Ponyo isn't even nominated for best animated feature, for fuck's sake.
Thats because for one: Ponyo sucks, and two: The Oscars hate anime more than I do.

Best animated picture has been fedexed to Up!, even though Coraline deserves to win it.

The Hurt Locker should win every single award that it is nominated for, and some that it isn't.

Would love to see District 9 win best pic but I suspect it will be Avatar and that the decision will be full of industry politics - Avatar cost some 500million dollars to make. It needs to be a financial and critical success to justify that.

Don't want to sound like a hater here but absolutely seconded.
That movie insulted my intelligence and if it wins anything, I'll be severely dissapointed.
On a side note, is that Hurt Locker thingy any good? It's really difficult to find here.

Oh, I'm also convinced that Inglorious Basterds needs to never win anything, ever. I thought the movie was god awful. Kill Bill aside, I feel that Tarantino hasn't done anything worth watching. EVER.

Well that's polarizing, I felt that Kill Bill was his absolute worst.
What about Pulp Fiction? Do you hate that either?

Wich is why Spirited Away won an oscar and why Howl's Moving Castle was nominated for one. Yeah, the Oscars sure do hate Japanese animation.

And I guess you're allowed to have your own opinion even if it's a wrong one.

I want Hurt Locker for best picture, and Sandra Bullock to get jack shit. She's a crap actress and was crap in The Blind Side (which was crap).

Say what you like about avatar being beautiful or Up being touching (I love that film, but I keep thinking it would be funnier if Carl was replaced with Herbert The Pervert, then it really would be touching), but Hurt Locker is awesome, properly, awesomely, awesome.
