Kill Bill aside, I feel that Tarantino hasn't done anything worth watching. EVER.
Well that's polarizing, I felt that Kill Bill was his absolute worst.
What about Pulp Fiction? Do you hate that either?
Only seen bits and pieces, and it honestly doesn't interest me in the least. In all honestly though, with the fact that everything else I've seen from him has been garbage in my eyes, even the Kill Bill movies are looking pretty bad. I can't bring myself to watch them anymore aside from the scene in the first when Uma kills Vivica Fox. "There's cereal everywhere" was my response the 2nd time I saw it in theaters...my friends thought it was hysterical...

The more I think of it the more I think of getting rid of my copies of Kill Bill...hmmm

I hate the OScars. They really chose The Hurt Locker over Inglorious Basterds or District 9? Are they retarded? Both Avatar and The Hurt Locker are okay movies, but they're not new, innovative and original. (except for Avatar's effects. Which is its only merrit)

Well, please take no offense, but what kind of movie do you like? Most movies out there have an underlying message. Its called the main idea, its part of writing. Comedies are the only format of movie that isn't required to have one, some still do.
I don't mind if a movie has a subtle message. Thats fine. But when the message is beaten over my head with the force of a thousand exploding suns, i start to take offense. I feel like the movie is insulting me, like the movie is saying GET IT? IT'S WRONG TO DO THIS! DO YOU GET IT? HERE LET ME SHOW YOU AGAIN. Of course it's not ok to kill people for oil and racism is wrong, i knew that before i went to see the movies. But Cameron/whothefuckhewas think that im such an idiot that i don't understand that.
These are just my opinions, and i didn't mean to offend anyone.
The theme in district 9 was a little more than that, it was also asking the question whether humanity was really ready to make contact with other species, being set in johanesseburg reinforcers that as the victims of apartheid are also very hostile to the aliens.
Personally i think district 9 should win best movie but I know it wont.

P.S Out of curiosity what is a movie you like?

Honestly, never seen any of those either, I'm mostly going on with the movies of his I have seen. But those movies, after seeing previews or bits and pieces or what have you, hold no interest in my mind. Especially after all the other "garbage" I've seen him release. I just don't like hit directing/writing. It mostly bores me because he takes so long to do things. Like the whole "bear jew" thing in Basterds, did it really need to take 5 minutes for him to come out of that tunnel? Then it gets to the point finally and it wasn't even that good. I expected more. I think that's my downfall though, I expect too much of him. Who knows? I've come to terms with the fact that my friend Justin (Con Carne on these forums) and I are of a very select few that just don't find Tarantino flicks worth watching.

So... what I'm getting out of this is: "I don't like Tarentino films, even though I haven't seen any."

I have to say, I expected Avatar to win. The Hurt Locker is a fantastic film about an important topic, but no way it was as influential and game-changing as Avatar. I kinda feel sorry for Jim (14 years of work and then gets beaten by his ex-wife. That must sting) but Bigelow deserved it too.

I'm surprised The White Ribbon didn't win Best Foreign film. It was amazing, I was 99% sure it will win.

Cheers for Christoph Waltz. Basterds should've gotten more.

Robert Downey Jr hosts the next Oscars or I'll shoot a kitten.

Im surprised at most of the wins to be honest, but even more surprised at the sheer amount of effort that Ben Stiller went through just to announce a winner, kudos to the bloke

There are absolutely no movies among the nominies that I feel the need to root for.

Ponyo isn't even nominated for best animated feature, for fuck's sake.
But...but Up was nominated, and even won! I do agree, though, Ponyo should've been nominated.

Personally, I wish Up had won best picture, not just best animated film, but I knew it wasn't going to happen. But seriously? The Hurt Locker won? I guess I can't really say anything since I haven't seen the movie yet, but I really thought Avatar was going to sweep it...

"... until I remember that he profited a billion and a half dollars." James Cameron does not need you sympathy or your Oscars. He has already won.

He butchered the act, but you gotta love Ben Stiller. Indeed, kudos to him.

Oh and let's get a list in here, for the sake of discussion. If the OP would kindly edit this into the first post, we could discuss the winners.

Best Picture: The Hurt Locker (Kathryn Bigelow)
Actor in a Leading Role: Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart)
Actress in a Leading Role: Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side)
Directing: The Hurt Locker (Kathryn Bigelow)

And Avatar obviously won everything we knew it was going to(Best Visual Effects, Best Cinematography etc.). Anyone disappointed or surprised? Liked the winners? Hated them? Let us know.

Ok so what Tarintino movie have you seen because barring Death Proof (his worst movie) that is his whole filmography. Your saying that you don't like his directing or writting but then you gloss over the three movies that made him famous for his directing and writting. I don't really think it's fair to say that he has done nothing worth watching EVER if you've never even seen his best 3 movies.

I guess I shoulda clarified better that I really haven't seen all his movies so my opinions are very limited. I have a *really* bad habit of not being more specific in my arguments, or even misinformed. Kill Bills, Death Proof (yes I know you said aside from that one,) From Dusk Till Dawn (at least I think that was his...) and I've tried watching Pulp Fiction, think I've successfully watched maybe...1/3 of it, who knows. As far as anything else, I haven't seen it and none of it interests me in seeing the previews, even before anything he's done lately. I am honestly willing to give some of his "best" movies a shot, but I don't have my hopes up at all. To me Inglorious Basterds was just an inglorious waste of my time. I see a lot of movies in a year. I see most for free being that I used to work at the local theater and I'm friends with the manager. That was one movie I paid for...to my friend and I we debated asking for our money back. As I said, this is a weak argument to begin with on my part, and my friend and myself are 2 of a very small few it seems, that don't see the appeal in Tarantino flicks anymore...kinda wish he'd jump in on this convo and help me out, he's much better at this kinda thing, lol. Oh well

To be honest, the last movie I saw in theaters was the remake of the movie with the giant ship that flipped over. Hollywood has given me no reason to change my mind.

Kind of off topic but did anybody else notice how many movies with the number 9 in them were released in 2009?

OT: District 9 for best picture

Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs? Pulp Fiction is without argument his best work.

About Oscars: I'm glad Jeff Bridges won. That guy can really act, and he wasn't shy about showing his happiness when he was holding the statuette in his hands. Hurt Locker deserves all the praise it got, I'm glad Avatar failed hard, and I'm glad Waltz won as well. Sandra Bullock didn't deserve Oscar but I really don't care about anything other then lead actor and best movie this year.

The main reason, I think, that 'Basterds' or 'District 9' didn't win Best Picture was because those two movies were released during the summer, further away from the Oscars than the later films 'Hurt Locker' and 'Avatar'. Movies released in the summer have far less of a chance than the ones that are released closer to Christmas.

True. They didn't even give Watchmen a chance, which was a far better option than The Hurt Locker.
