Wasn't it already a pandemic, seeing as it was being spread to different countries across the world . it's just everyone feeling nauseous, and some elder folk and younger folk dying. Just like the regular flu.
Yes, but now it's OFFICIALLY a pandemic. That makes it more of a pandemic than it was before.*

Swine Flu: 6 month mark - 144 dead.
"Vanilla" flu: 12 months - 500,000 dead worldwide.
Spanish Flu: 1918-1920 - 50-100 million dead worldwide, 500 million (1/3 of global population at time) infected. A real pandemic.

A pandemic does not mean it is dangerous. It simply means the disease is spreading very quickly across the world. I was skeptical until a) The school near me closed and b) my little brother caught it. So. Yeah. Laugh at your own peril, cos you'll have a temperature in no time.
Man, you haven't played Pandemic before then. WE MUST START CLOSING DOWN THE BORDERS! MADAGASCAR DO YOUR THING! It is only a matter of time before the disease evolves to being a mean killing machine.

Last time I checked, it was 11,000 cases and 85 deaths, most of those deaths being in Mexico.

Assuming this holds as the average, if you catch swine flu and have no access to a decent healthcare system you have a 0.7727% chance of death.

My thoughts on this matter are thus:
Oh noez! Teh goveremenet toldz uz to panic!
Anyone up for a riot?

One interesting aspect of H1N1 is that it mainly affects people under 30 and in the vast majority of cases, the symptoms are more mild than regular seasonal flu.

You do realize these labels speak to the spread and not to the lethality of a virus right? ugh who am i kidding there are always those who think the world is after them. So yes...um oh no...here comes another black plague...
well last time swine flu broke out it killed hundreds of millions, so this ringing in the back of peoples minds does not spread tranquility and calmness.

yes yes but that was the SWINE flu this one is called the "north american influenza" aka H1N1 not the same thing just named swine flu due to the SIMILARITIES...
yes but its the similarities people notice. Irrational fear is everywhere and just because somthing doesnt make sence doesnt mean it will dissapear.
BTW, has anyone else seen the truely jaw-dropping stupidity some of the tabloids are coming out with, i read a paper a few months ago that had title "immigrants bring swine flu to our shores"

isnt that whole "to our shores" thing just one of those blame game things, nobody likes to be at fault or not know whats at fault so the blame game starts

It's a flu.
If you catch it, wait till you get better.
Babies and the elderly are obnoxious anyways.

Swine Flu? I haven't heard that name in weeks.

I'm not worried - I live in the absolute middle of nowhere, and I have no friends so I never have to go anywhere. Yay me?
You will be tasked with repopulating the world, oh great one.

Oh no.
We are all going to die.
Actually my school's been closed for a week because of it, first in Yorkshire, go us.
A girl got infected by her step sister who had recently been on a holiday to Mexico.
I don't think I'll be bothered unless I am directly affected by it.

i dont a fuck. as of what ive heard only 5 people has died of it. its just a pimped version of a normal flu, and it only kills the ones with a weaker immune-defense: Old, chronically sick, kids, etc.

Only now? I thought this happened ages ago.
It did seem to take quite a while...sort of kicks it the wind out of the Media trying to make it a scare story...oh well, they can still try...
Love the reference.

As someone above said, the label just refers to the spread of contagiousness of the virus, not it's lethality.
