I'd completely forgotten about Swine Flu until I read about this on BBC. My reaction: "meh"
It's basically just regular flu with a good PR guy.

And, you know, we haven't developed immunities to it like the regular flu. That's the threat - people with healthy immune systems will be effected more than they would be with other flus.

It's not a disaster, but it is different than a plain old flu.

There is always that threat, but I'm not going to be particularly worried until the death rate begins to soar.

Oh good. My world domination plan is succeeding. I lure you all into a false sense of security and then...BOOM!! I release THE deadly strain of the virus. All will bow before me! MUH-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Well, anyone with a basic grasp of vaccination theory can tell you that's bullpucky. If the only difference between the "false sense of security" strain and the "murder death kill rampage" strain, is symptom intensity, then they'll be similar enough so that your "false sense of security" strain acts as a vaccine. Edward Jenner's first vaccine worked the same way. If you're releasing the F.S.o.S.S., then the world should thank you as its fuzzing saviour.

Come on people. The swine flu has not killed all that many people. More people probably died in spontaneous combustion accidents. It's just pathetic how people think that as soon as a new disease pops up, it's something to be deathly afraid of.

I didn't even realize that Swine Flu was still a "problem," as it hasn't been spoken of lately.

So what for all I can care it could wipe out all the humans in the country of Mexico and all the humans on African continent and will not care till it starts effecting a nation that has some worth.

and this is like saying there is fire 3 months after the house has burned down and the firemen put it out what was left.

Wow, so the media doesnt talk about it for like 3 weeks and now we're hearing about this shit?

I guess all they care about is "hot" news. Now we're (apparently) fucked, and they start telling us about it now.

You do realize these labels speak to the spread and not to the lethality of a virus right? ugh who am i kidding there are always those who think the world is after them. So yes...um oh no...here comes another black plague...
well last time swine flu broke out it killed hundreds of millions, so this ringing in the back of peoples minds does not spread tranquility and calmness.

yes yes but that was the SWINE flu this one is called the "north american influenza" aka H1N1 not the same thing just named swine flu due to the SIMILARITIES...

Well, I'm getting on a boat to Madagascar.

Some guy caught it in the city near where I live. As someone pointed out he had to have friends who would catch it, and they would also have friends and I know at least one person, so I must have it too!

But what really upsets me is I guess all those people who finally caught Bird Flu are feeling pretty silly roundabout now, what with having last season's illness and all. Poor them.

I remember at the beginning of all this I said I wasn't going to worry about it till it came close.
And it's come very close.
My school is closed for a week because some random year 7 got swine flu, I was off anyway because I've finished all my exams and don't have to go into school.

I'm still not worried, in fact I don't think I will panic unless I actually get it myself.

This.

'Pandemic' doesn't mean it's any more dangerous than when it was just 'kinda scary' last month. It still targets babies and pensioners, and its still moslty treatable even when it does target them.

yes but its the similarities people notice. Irrational fear is everywhere and just because somthing doesnt make sence doesnt mean it will dissapear.
BTW, has anyone else seen the truely jaw-dropping stupidity some of the tabloids are coming out with, i read a paper a few months ago that had title "immigrants bring swine flu to our shores"

Wasn't it already a pandemic, seeing as it was being spread to different countries across the world . it's just everyone feeling nauseous, and some elder folk and younger folk dying. Just like the regular flu.
