I'm going to assume that your "dig" meaning is that I'm emotionally/sexually/physically/psychologically/any other -ally that you could possible think of it. OH, spiritually! Ha! now tell me there's one I missed.
That being said, my friends, and some of the escapist here, know I'm into Chihiro Fushimi from Persona 3/Persona 3 Fes/Persona 3 Portable/Persona 4 because she looks like a gf I still havent let go after she died (call me weak, I dont care). They also like to make jokes that I'm into Amy from Soul Calibur, because I can most relate with Raphael's backstory and she's his love interest and that Amy was the name of the girl I still havent let go.
However, thats not to say that I hold them above any real girl, since I'm in a relationship (and yes, she does know about my feelings twoards my first gf and my feelings toward the game characters) with a real girl (who has feelings of the same type for the Yosuke Hanamura of Persona 4 (I know, what are the odds). So yeah, my friends and my gf know, but my parents dont. They wouldnt get it. at least, not really.

Well it depends on the degree to which you involve yourself in the media. Example, I browse /e/ and /h/ on 4chan... yeah that seems weird to some people, however it's more or less the same as browsing any other porn site for the same purpose. It's sexual, not romantic or anything... just sexual, more primal than intellectual. Which I don't really see as a problem. However, if I were actually interested in the characters as people, and cared about them equally or similarly... then it would be a problem.

Well, I like to think everyone does. =/. It makes me feel normal. And as for the fictional character, I like Hermione Granger =).

OT: Have a "thing" for or connect/identify with? It's a subtle, but very important difference. For example, I'd say that, on some level, I identify with most characters that I stick as my avatar for some reason or another.
Natsuki, for example, appeals to my disciplined and controlled side.
Fate (my previous avatar) appeals to my compassionate side.
Mai tends to appeal to my temper and emotional side.
There are others, of course. This is just a small selection of characters that I identify with.
