I don't know about youz guyz but I like playing as a body builder much better then playing as your everyday guy. I mean, who's better Link or Kratos? Like a classic game once said, No contest. I've thought of this before, why would I rather kill people as the Hulk? I'm probably not gay (or even bi). The answer is simple. Fantasy. Thats right, we want to play as someone we want be like (maybe not exactly like).

But as far as females go?... I love to see a little skin. Heck, if there's an intelligent woman in a game I'm like "shut-up *****, you made your point. Go make me a sandwich or something." No but seriously, I don't like "smart" chicks in games because they all act like total bitches. Every time. Or they're a librarian-type. So either feminist ***** or shy librarian... Thats all the smart ones.

A better example would be a game like Devil May Cry, with its legions of female fans who obsess over attractive men running around shirtless, sometimes without even playing the game (I'm not making this up, it's a pretty big thing in Asia). In fact, the Sengoku Basara games were created specifically to appeal to this demographic, with a few characters to attract guys thrown in as an afterthought. This doesn't stop the games in question from being fun and often hilarious, and neither does half-naked women running around (society has just trained itself to complain about that one).
You have a point regarding Sengoku Basara. Let it not be known I am male and am totally into all the guys, but....anyway....

From the top of my head, female characters....err...Oichi, Tsurihime (silly schoolgirl outfit) and Magoichi. That is it. Versus the whole rest of the cast as males.

Yes. Valid point you raise. And as people have mentioned, it is because men are treated differently. Men and Women in western culture have different standards as to what are acceptable ways to treat them.

Everything is Sexualized. Our Puritan Founded Country (America I can't speakfor anyotner country represented in here) is FULL of sexual repression.

I think they are being sexualized. That is to say, they were designed to be sexually appealing. I don't see that as a particularly bad thing, but it does get tiresome after a while. Is it too much to ask for a properly proportional woman? Someone that doesn't look like they're top heavy? I don't mind the pretty faces and whatnot, it's certainly acceptable to make them visually pleasing, but seeing massive boobage gets old to me.

Games are fantasy and escape in large part, so maybe all boys fantasize about being disproportionately muscular and all women dream of being disproportionately breasted and we all dream of wearing clothes that reveal said abnormalities.

I don't think this is true, as I can never relate to these characters in games. But it is what many people in the industry that make games seem to think. Some concept artists are just terrible too I suppose (looking at everything you've ever done Darksiders and comic artist Paul Richards). It's funny because a meatbag like Marcus Fenix who actually SPEAKS in a game I find myself being less able to relate to then a silent stickman like Link, simply because Link has a more realistic physique and look (despite pointy ears).

I agree with you 100%. I believe that there is a discrepancy between the sexes when you approach appearances, be it in the medium of video games or others such as film and television. I think society must note the difference between sexy and sexualised. Often this has more to do with characterisation than appearances themselves. Look at Mass Effect 2 for instance; Bioware have got this relatively right. Regardless of your gender, you are attractive, capable, yet not sexualised. None of the outfits are revealing, none overly erotic, yet you wouldn't hesitate to describe either Shepard as attractive and indeed, sexy.

A sexually empowered man, capable of attracting women, should be just as socially acceptable as a sexually empowered woman, equally skilled at attracting men. The stereotypical physical aspects that make a man sexy - muscle definition, body shape, facial features, body symmetry - can exist without a man being sexualised, or deemed as shallow. Often, these features are attributed as necessary - can't kill civilisations or save the world if your BMI's over 25 :p

However, the corresponding physical aspects that make a woman sexy - body shape, cleavage, "curves", low body fat, facial features, body symmetry,(have to throw clothing in here) - are deemed less necessary, and are thus commonly attributed as over-sexualisation. You don't need a large cup size to save the world, despite the fact that in any situation in real life a voluptuous woman could just be as capable as one without those "assets."

That's my opinion... Comments, Escapist comrades?

I can honestly say that I never thought of that.

And yet, it's been in front of my face since I finally got a girlfriend who's just as much of a gamer as I. If she's not drooling over Zevran or Big Boss, she wishes to flirt with Reaver.

"big, muscular, roid-raging guy" ...who's probably sporting a penis the size of a newt's left testicle which he has to carry around a tank sized gun in order to compensate for. If that's what you want to call "male perfection" than you've got some bizarre ideas of perfection. Then again, it would seem so does the gaming industry at large.

Context is necessary for this: it's set in an antediluvian world before the rise of such notions of gender equality. You might as well complain that there aren't any black people in the Dynasty Warriors games. Besides, said "completely nude female slaves" are neither completely nude (they're topless) nor are they ever used as sex slaves, or any other sorts of slaves. The greatest extent of interaction the player has is breaking their chains - you know, freeing them from bondage, how very misogynistic of Conan(!) - seeing them get up, spout some cheesy dialogue... and that's it. You can't actually do anything with them, much less make them your unquestioning sex slave.

So we shouldn't judge a man's worth by his muscles, but by his penis size? That... doesn't seem that much better to me.

It goes the other way too with females. We get cookie-cutter action girls who hate dresses and pink and mistake "being a *****" with "being independent" (see WET for a recent example)

I'm not saying that, although that does seem to be the reality. What I am saying is a muscle-bound meat-head who probably has 10x more muscles than brain cells, actually make that 30x more muscles than brain cells, and feels the need to compensate for his inadequacy downstairs (regardless of what size his manhood actually is) by carrying around over-sized over-powered firearms is hardly my idea of the "perfect man."

I don't follow your train of thought.
For the male characters to be hypersexualized like the female characters I would need to see more Dead or Alive style games featuring shirtless guys.

Ever noticed in a game like Mass Effect you get choices between hot girls, but when it comes to the male persuasion... the choices are slim.
Take Dragon Age: Origins for instances as well. You have the one decent male choice in Alistair, but better female choices. I mean, Morrigan can go almost half the game with her tits hanging out, why can I see Alistair shirtless all the time? Fair's fair, is it not?

Also. When did becoming a roid raging space marine become sexy to women? Last time I checked, we're not into guys who look like:

The roid raging space marines are actually made for you men, believe it or not. Studios believe you would more easily project your own personality on a rough and manly character versus a wimpy character.
If your theory, op, were correct, then we'd see more women playing games like Gears of War. Sadly this is not the case.

Would I play games with guys being sexualized? Hell to the yes. Give me guys' in my party without shirts and I'd be a happy camper.
/from a female perspective. ;)
