you are s sniper sent to kill a dictator who has committed mass genocide. However, the target is surrounded by children, which you would have to kill in order to kill the target. What do you do?

EDIT - you are using a special round, which the shock alone will kill anyone it closely passes. (which normal 50cal bullets CAN do) THESE ARE THE ONLY ROUNDS YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN. Time is running out, this is the only public appearence of said dictator and you have to either fire now or let him live.

ANOTHER EDIT - this actually happened, not the sniping part but Sadam used to have children surround him incase of such a situation. A child can be anyone under 16, i don't know about you guys, but i was about 6ft when i was 15.

The children would be shorter than the dictator, so it would be an easy shot. I don't see why I'd have to kill any kids to get to him. I'd just wait until the dictator stood up. I don't think you've thought through this hypothetical scenario very well.

EDIT: why would I, as an assassin, use a stupid bullet like that? It'd leave a trail of dead bodies from the intended target right to the place where I was hiding! What a way to get busted. I'd change that bullet out for some ammunition that did the actual job I wanted it to, and didn't reveal my location, THEN I'd shoot the guy without killing the kids. If I couldn't change the ammo I'd use another rifle (let's face it 50 cal rifles are for soldiers to penetrate tank armour, not for discreet assassination jobs in civilian areas), as a pro sniper I'm sure I have an assortment of tools that could do the job cleanly and effectively. Or I just would call off the mission. No point assassinating someone if I can't get paid afterward because a big-ass trail of bodies that I stupidly left behind led to my death or incarceration.

ANOTHER EDIT: and look how he ended up. Saddam wasn't exactly playing cards with a full deck anyway.

Wait for a clear shot. You're a sniper, patience is part for the course.

Depends, is it the dictator of my country or am I sent by a outside state?

Yea I think unless the children were strapped to him as some kind of weird body armour, I'd just wait until there was a clear shot.

Use a different bullet. Then, wait for a better shot and take it.

And anyway, I hate little children, I'd kill them, then kill the dictator.

[sub][sup][sup]That was a joke for the thick people[/sup][/sup][/sub]

false. what if the dictator happens to be kimjong il?

For me, if i had no choice, i just would probably just kill whoever. After all, that dictator, if not killed right there and then, would most likely kill many more children than you chose not to kill. Yes, you would have to live with it but, yes, you probably have just saved many more lives.

n00b! I'd curve the bullet! And if it's his children then they're all going down with him, I do not want them to avenge their fathers death, like Goliath Jr.

Wait until the kids go away. Unless he ties them to himself as body armour, it should be fairly easy. Why would I have to kill the kids to get to him, anyway? If I've been sent (presumably alone) into enemy territory to kill the leader of the enemy forces, I'm obviously a pretty fucking good shot. Kids are small, adults are tall. I can just aim over the kids, or even between them if he happens to be lying down with the children. I find that unlikely, though, as Never Never Land was not a dictatorship, and Michael Jackson is already dead.

EDIT: OK, I have magic bullets because apparently I'm a fucking idiot who can't choose a good ammo loadout for a stealth mission :p

In which case, I consult my orders. Have my superiors told me to take him out, whatever the cost? Then, if I have absolutely no other choice, the kids'll die. If I've been told to avoid collateral damage, I just keep waiting.

Wait until night then sneak into where he sleeps and cut his head off with a bayonet... then break my bayonet half way through the job and have to use my spotter's bayonet... later, back at base, I'd try to get my bayonet replaced at the QMs, only to be told it was damaged outside of accepted usage, so I'd have to pony up for a new one.

Which is more or less what happened to a friend of mine. Not saying where he was deployed at the time.

What, you think the only criteria for a sniper is marksmanship?

Oh soo close try another edit.

Just switch the bullets out I doubt I would be going in there with just those specific bullets.

This dictator would likely continue to kill people if I don't. These children are clearly connected either to the dictator himself or children of those supporting him- they may well end up as he is. Take him out, take them out, fell the scene.
EDIT: Ha, whoops. Flee. Felling the scene would take a big axe, no?

Yeah, this exactly. Alternatively I would just wait until the oppertune moment.
That said if it was exact timing and I had to take the shot, I probably would wimp out and not do it, though the target would probably still get shot because usually in high profile sniping jobs like this there are two snipers so if one misses the other takes the shot.
So even if I backed down, my backup would have to decide if he was ready to make the shot or not.

Take the shot. It's my job, I'm a professional. More genocide or a few dead kids. I wouldn't like it, but I know my choice.

I'd wait for a clear shot, and if, for some strange reason, that does not happen, I suppose I would just take him down with the children.

I'd wait for a better shot.

While I was waiting, I'd tell my boss to send me on the right type of job if they didn't want me to kill children.

EDIT: For the highly revised scenario... there are better ways than killing him.

He's probably going to have them killed later anyway, may as well save him and his death squad the trouble.
