If you don't know what a social mask is - it is a attitude/persona you put on in social situations you find uncomfortable.

If you have one - what is it?

Personally mine is the chandler (friends), I'm the group punching bag and I'm the stereotypical funny guy who doesn't get a girlfriend until season 7.

Although when on the internet I'm well... this. pretty articulate, wanting to have meaningful conversation and such.

This is probably my age group - being a student If I bring up politics or religion my peers will either think I'm joking or yawn.

What's yours?

Quiet, mumbly guy who's sometimes perceived as intelligent. Because he didn't watch television growing up, but read instead. Out of necessity, mind. Not that he regrets it.

Chandler the group punching bag? Not really, he makes fun of the rest of the group at every possibly opportunity!

I usually just try and break the ice in such situations. While cliche, a well placed "...SOooo..." can work wonders. Either that or I just sit quietly and joke with whatever wretched friend dragged me to said social situation.

People claiming that they never put on social masks is even more retarded than people claiming that they always put on the same social mask in every situation.

Not that I would compare them, mind you; the former is much, much more stupid.

Edit: whoops

I'm the cynical person who's just a LITTLE too bitter about not being popular sometimes

Also, the person who brings up all the taboos, whether people like it or not

well... i am always the guy who makes the desitions, funily enough a lot of people, even guys i just met, tend to go with what i say, mostly because i offer fun and relaxed ways of spending time

i am the kind of guy that if you talk to him he doesn´t answer or doesn´t care (unless its actually worthy of my attention), but if i talk to someone else they always answer, i just have an attitude about my self that almost no one can deny me anything

natural leader?? perhaps, but i do tend to have the best ideas for spending our time or working on a project, and when i say something someone always listens (or at least in real life, i dont know about the internet)

I find myself usually in the same boat as you OP, in that any serious discussion is usually avoided. Also the funny guy who doesn't get a girlfriend but less the punching bag and more the punchee (it's a real word, honest).

The friendly nice one who's fun and comfortable to hang out with, but seems refined and mysterious in a distant sort of way at the same time. Or so everyone says. My girlfriend says that i should be classified as a flirt because I always put off a good likeable impression to everyone, and therefore girls sometimes interpret that... differently.

I...don't...have one.
I'm awkward no matter who I'm around.
Especially if it's more than two people.
