1. Having to wear clothes
2. It being acceptable to be a fat unhealthy jackass
3. People considering race or gender to be important
4. Society being based around money and class
5. Sexuality/sexual preferences being an issue
6. Lots of other things. Like most of the things. Almost all of them.
Move out of the states. Depending on where, but at most only 2 of those are a big thing over here in Sweden.
Which two? No matter what, you're lucky. Not only is there that, but you guys have what may be the greatest metal band ever: Sabaton. I hate how hated nudity is. Really, the only reasons it's illegal is to make the clothing industry more money and because of religion.
Which 2 depends on the part of the country. And we have a lot of great music.
And while I think that prudishness is a little silly these days, I wouldn't want everybody to walk around completely naked. It'd take a lot of the thrills away from sex.
I think it would be worth it. It would kill alot of insults if everybody's body type was seen as ok.
But that's the thing, if anything it'd make physique even more important, and make having an "un-attractive" body type more unjustly ridiculed.

- Patriotism. Everyone's country can't be the f**king best. And even if it IS the best, that's probably entirely independent of anything that you have done personally.

- Ironing, dressing up in suits and stuff. If everyone just agreed we didn't give a f**k about it any more, we would save so much time and energy, and everyone could just wear what felt comfortable.

- Small talk. I don't care about the same things that you don't care about either. It's going to make for a conversation where each of us walks away thinking the other is boring.

- Being expected to lie in job interviews. If you want to hire the person who is most convincingly dishonest, f**king go for it. No, I don't particular want to work here at McDonalds. My biggest weakness is procrastination, and a dislike for authority. Just like you, I have no f**king idea where I will be in 5 years time.

Hmm. Though clearly that wasn't what you meant by your last point, I'll cede your new point. People who commit sexual crimes do also receive harsh treatment from others. I wouldn't say that this very small number relative to all other minorities deserve to be put in the same category, and it would appear from the attitude you expressed toward them that you'd agree. Also, I don't hear the NAACP and GLAD calling for "baby-toucher rights."

I would imagine recorded instances of necrophilia are about as common as FBI cases on snuff films. And there aren't a whole helluvah lot more people fucking animals out there. For what purpose are we lumping people who are discriminated against because of things they didn't choose with people who fuck something/someone who does not want it?
Actually I was referring mostly to paedophiles and child molesters in my first example, it was entirely you that assumed 'minority' meant 'brown folk'. There's a tendency for people who desire acceptance to befriend others in vulnerable situations in order to get reciprocal acceptance, on the basis that if they accept other people's differences people will accept theirs.

I was referring to the tendency of people to seek acceptance for their little social derps by trying to emotionally blackmail people into accepting them. This is something you MUST have seen on this site, it just strikes me as creepily pathetic! I mean...I don't wanna say names but you must've seen it...
I can't say I have noticed it, though I have noticed that some people's arguments (like comparing rape porn to comic relief) do make them seem like the sort that the FBI already has a file on.

Brown folk, yellow folk, even green folk if you have that particular soft spot as Captain Kirk does. The term minority in the context we're describing usually refers to racial minorities, though in a broader context it can be used to include anyone who's unlawfully discriminated against due to gender, religion, sexual orientation, etc. I've never heard of pedos being considered minorities, as when they're "discriminated against" it's usually not unlawful. A registered sex offender being kicked off a junior high grounds is not legal discrimination.

I think a large one for me is the whole demonization of hitting women.
A woman can literally thwack me with a large stick (no, really, this particular example happened) yet if I so much as lift a hand to defend myself she instantly has a posse of strangers yelling at me -.-
For the record she was unprovoked, she was screaming at some other guy with an over-loved car before stomping off then turning around and beating on me because I happpened to be on the nearest sidewalk... I still have no fucking clue who she was either.

Also, "modern art" Where a blank canvas can be considered a masterpiece... just... no! >.<

And all this stupid religious bullshit recently, not sure what's going on anywhere else but here in Australia theres been a reasonably large Muslim vs Christian thing going on with Christians doing everything they can to stop mosques going up and even some extremist Muslims calling for Australia to become a Muslim country -.-

Gonna have to cut my post here before I say anything more about religion and get myself probation again -.- I've already headed off-topic so... yeah.

Instead of making a gigantic post of everything I hate in American society (because that list would be pretty long) I have found three letters to sum up all of them in one go.
MTV.
Yep that pretty much shows everything I hate. Can anyone show everything they have in 3 letters or less? If you need visual proof I recommend watching in small doses (5 second intervals) as overexposure may cause you to become a complete moron.

OP states his opinions as fact.
and you make that assumption just because I don't begin every other sentence by saying the words "in my opinion"

sorry if that seemed a bit confrontational, but you're putting words in my mouth there

I am aware that everything I say on a subject like this is my opinion it goes without saying, and if it goes without saying then why bother saying it?

also I should point out that the Michael Jackson thing was just an example, I'm aware of all the fans he had and still has I was just pointing out how since he died jokes about the whole pedophile thing were suddenly taboo, whether he did it or not is irrelavent

by the way I don't think Ringo was anything special either since you asked
You aren't required to say "in my opinion." But when you state opinions as fact, you end up backtracking and contradicting yourself, as you do here, in the bolded text. When you said...
Oly J said:
before Michael Jackson died all I heard about him was pedophile jokes, left, right and center, now that he's dead he's no longer a dangerous man-child but a great man and tragic figure
...you had to later acknowledge that this was not the case.

I'm not asking that you include the clause "in my opinion" before every assertion. I'm asking that you think about your assertions before you make them, because clearly we agree that there was a lot more said about Michael Jackson before his death other than "pedophile jokes, left, right and center," yet you stated exactly that. I also take issue with your claim that it's a-okay to make pedo jokes about someone regardless of the truth of the accusation (and I'm not a Michael Jackson fan). Do I really need to give the father-son speech to spell it out to you? How would you like it if someone accused you of molesting kids and, regardless of the outcome of the trial, every dipshit hack comic from coast to coast continued telling the jokes for decades?

Also, when you state JOHN LENNON WAS NOT THAT GREAT, with no qualifiers and no elaboration, it seems as though you have no particular reason to believe this but instead just want to flame Lennon-lovers. This is how I feel, not about Lennon specifically, but about The Beatles in general. I love the White Album. I love Sergeant Pepper. I love a lot of their experimental stuff. Friggin' hate "I Wanna Hold Your Hand." Hate a lot of their singles. And I yawn and roll my eyes when people gleefully proclaim that The Beatles are the bestest band ever! Yeah, don't let the bandwagon hit your ass on the way out. But I still love the Beatles.

Also, the Ringo comment was a joke.

Edit X3: really f'in up this morning. My tongue is an asshole :)

Not if nobody was ashamed of their body, which they would need to be to be nude.
But that's an entirely different social convention, the obsession with looks and what looks are okay, that's the really bad one.

Ah. It seems you've somehow managed to avoid the wave of threads that form my main example, it was about four months ago mainly. Basically a few people are very keen to make sure everyone knows the difference between a child molester and a paedophile and considered paedophiles to be discriminated against unfairly.

I use 'minority' as a fairly blunt title, literally as a group that is in the minority. I wasn't making a value judgement beyond that equating all minorities (regardless of nature) to race or sexuality bothers me.

And I seem to remember that green lady being rather pretty. In between that and Mass Effect I don't think there are many colours that would faze me. Except maybe orange. People with too much fake tan set me on edge, I worry for anyone who can go orange, look in a mirror and like what they see.
Shit! Now I know what you're talking about. The "I haven't touched a kid yet crowd." Yeah, super creepy.

I actually wasn't talking about the redhead who was tragically blown up along with the rest of the fleet in the reboot, though we can include her as well. Shatner's Kirk used to run around with all kinds of green ladies.

And ditto on the fake tan. It's disturbing bordering on cartoonish, particularly when it's done to the degree that their skin is actually orange. But it does make for great stripper names, i.e. Tangerine.

The fact that it's perfectly fine to bash someone's religion. I'm sick and tired of it. People say "If that's what you believe, that's fine. Just don't push it on me," and then proceed to turn around and openly mock my religious school of thought. Kind of tired of being an acceptable target.

Certain perceptions of dating. I may be wrong, but going out on a single date with a person does not constitute being in a relationship with them.

The "games are for kids" mindset. Enough said there.

The mindset of many Americans against football/soccer and rugby. I was watching a rugby match in my college's student union last year, and some guy came up to me, found out I was a rugby and soccer fan, and then proceeded to directly ask me if I hated America.

Related to the above, anyone who complains about the World Cup being on, especially ones prone to using a variation of "what country am I in again?" Like the other 47 months of American football on television isn't enough.

The way that people use and treat the words 'gay' and 'lesbian'.
I myself refuse to call homosexual women "lesbians" as it has a dissociative connotation to it. This is in conjunction to the way people use the word gay to mean something is bad, undesirable, etc.

Example:
1. When insulting someone, what is the most common method, particularly with men? Implying/stating they take it up the a$$! and are gay. Saying someone is gay is an attempt at social emasculation, imposition of effeminacy (ie you are as good as a woman and thus below me). (If you don't believe this part than I ask you why would someone bother pointing out a difference of gender/behavior and use it as justification if they didn't believe it was lesser.)

2. When decrying gay marriage, many people (in my experiences and observations) associate the scenario with to homosexual men and (again) doing it in the you-know-where.

3. In meetings where opponents of homosexuality are explaining their reasoning for opposing it they will primarily (if not entirely) focus on homosexual men and doing it in the *ahem*.

Yet no one seems to really bother with homosexual women, "lesbians" , as if they are not part of the conversation. The only time they seem to be included is when there is pro-homosexual discussion.

I personally hate when famous musicians die...not because they can't make music anymore but because as soon as a famous musician dies they are made a god in the eyes of society regardless of the public opinion on them in life
Agreed. I have no idea why we venerate dead celebrities and completely ignore what actually happened in their life.

The Chaser poked some great fun at this a while ago.

But people are still self concious and ashamed of how they look even when they wear clothes. I don't think they're as connected as you might think.

I hate when men seem to think there is no middle ground for women between being delicate princesses and radical militant feminists. Seriously guys, most of us are just people...
