"You know, I think we could get a discount on top of that," Levi replied as they approached the checkout line. There were only two other people in line, so the wait was relatively short. The person operating the register was a teenage boy, who could not have been older than eighteen. His small, nondescript name tag read "Andrew". The young man greeted them and began to scan their items, a carefully rehearsed routine that he performed quickly and efficiently.
After Andrew finished scanning their items, he read off the total to them. Hrm. It's a bit much, Levi thought. "Is there some sort of...superhero discount?" he asked Andrew. In response, the young cashier gave him an incredulous look. "Oh, don't tell me. You're part of the Society. Do you know how many of you looking for a discount come in claiming you're a-"
Andrew's sentence was cut short as Levi produced a badge, identifying him as a member of the Society of Justice. The young man stared at him, mouth agape. "Uh...sorry about that..." he stammered nervously. The suddenly nervous Andrew punched in some buttons at his register, which dramatically cut the total price. "..a-anything for the Electric Couple..."
Levi winced at that the media-given name for himself and Taryn. You'd think they could be at least somewhat creative. After handing Andrew his card and completing the transaction, Levi and Taryn left the store with all due haste. Now that their cover was blown, it would be a matter of time before people noticed them. Suddenly regretting the decision to park in the back of the lot, Levi pushed the cart down the pavement as fast as he could.
As they made their way to his car, people called out to them, asking for pictures, autographs, and the like. One particularly creepy-sounding fellow loudly proclaimed his undying love for Taryn and even tossed a bouquet of flowers in their general direction. The floral projectile overshot its target and landed on a nearby car. Pulling out his keys, Levi popped the trunk of his car and started loading their newly purchased building materials into the empty space. "Hey, help me out here!" he said to Taryn over the increasing din of their adoring "fans".
