"Or I just get lucky allot." Alex laughed some taking another bite of her food, chewing it as if she was studying it then swallowed. "So when do you want to want to head over to the Promenade?" she said him setting her fork down.

"Let's hope we're not recognized." Taryn commented to Levi. "Oh, and I'll try to stick to the list this time." she added with a smile. She tossed the pen she'd been using on the passenger seat before exiting the car. Taryn folded up the list of materials with the text visible then placed it in her jacket pocket. She began walking toward the store. After a few steps she detached her phone from its holster, lowered the volume, then reattached it. Ordinarily Taryn would have set the device on silent but with the crowd and her recent voice-mail, she didn't want to take risk missing a call.

Jason smiled a small smile as he climbed in after Katie, realizing that she (and Ethan...and possibly Talbot) was practically the only one that didn't have magic intertwined in her roots.

"Yeah...that makes sense. They say that the creator of the Key was a shaman...war general...type person." He said to Tommy as he took a seat.

"Let's hope we're not recognized."

"Don't tempt fate now," Levi replied with a grin as he locked up his car. Idly, he wondered if people would recognize him at all, considering that he was without his trademark vest and goggles. However, Taryn was wearing her jacket, a trademark of her own. In combination with her red-tipped hair, she made for a very easily recognizable person. That would blow any cover Levi had, but considering that not very many images of them existed, maybe people would't recognize them right away.

"Just don't spend too long talking to the refrigerators," he said in response to her promise to stay on task, poking her shoulder lightly with his elbow.

Brian was sitting in his room, trying to concentrate on shooting noobs with his Commando, but all he could think about was the shooting down he was anticipating from the waitress at Little's. There was no response yet, and he was getting worried. Fuck. I knew it. I screwed up there. Fucking coma. Totally wrecked my chance with her. Kayla's probably thinking I'm just weird or something. Probably going to be like 'don't ever text this number again'. Or maybe it wasn't even her number? Maybe it's just some fake they tell the waitresses to give to customers. Man I just- what was that?

Brian's cheap Blackberry started buzzing, the red light flickering on and off indicating that someone had sent him a text. Great my bill's probably due again. Bloody Verizon. Bleeding me dry. Definitely switching when I can. He looked at the screen.

Code:
Yeah Figured something happened Im willing to give a chance Dont text speak again though Ill hurt you
Brian smiled. Well if I can get out of this frigging room without being killed at least I got something to do...

"May as well head over now if you're ready. I just need to get changed and then we can head out." Richard replied already getting up to go put on his ever present business suit.

Lillian looked Renton over before placing a kiss on the small bump and speaking to Garrus. "He is the son of the great Garrus Arreos, I'm sure he's fine. Still needed to make sure though."

Dira drove the car towards the outskirts, where the city met the vast jungle that covered the rest of the island. A tall wall divided them from on another. Along the wall, a number of shops of all shapes and sizes sold plant components and animals from the jungle on the other side. Tommy and Dira argued for a second about which nursery was the best, before finally settling on the place where Dira bought some of her reagents.

The car pulled into the parking lot of a fairly large nursery, inside the yard where specimens of the various kinds of plants that could be found all around the world.

"Alright, here we are, I shop here all the time so the owner gives me a discount." Dira told Katie.

"Not as good a discount as Madame Jinler," Tommy interjected snarkily.

"Madame Jinler only gives you that discount because you saved her cat back in high school, and her collection's not that great."

"Please her plants are much rarer."

"Rarer, yes, but we're not looking for vampiric cacti we're looking for some nice plants for a garden."

"Vampiric cacti look pretty in the fall."

"Yes, after they're summer feeding frenzy and they're covered in blood." She added sarcastically.

"Garret's right, you do have trouble appreciating the finer things."

Dira rolled her eyes and sighed, and lead everyone inside. The minute they entered the nursery the owner immediately recognized Dira, while he talked to her he invited everyone to browse his gallery.

Katie's eyes flickered between Tommy and Dira as they bantered back and forth. Vampire cacti? They sounded like a bad crossover of Transylvania and the desert. She smiled a little at the image as she got out of the car and followed the others inside.

Upon walking into the nursery, she could tell almost instantly that she was going to like the place. A veritable wave of verdant life assailed her eyes and nose as she looked around the place, amazed by some of the plants and their bright colouring or strange behaviour. She examined a nearby potted plant a little closer, which looked like a cross between a Venus flytrap and a ten-leafed clover. It was pretty small: maybe it was a young one just starting to grow.

Without warning, all of the 'leaves' of the plant snapped open, turned to face her and bared tiny fangs as if snarling at a hostile presence. "Aww, that's kinda cute. This one doesn't like me - Wait, is that poison?" Katie cut herself off with her own question, noting a very faint greenish liquid dripping occasionally from a fang.

"I'm sure it's nothing too deadly...though I have been wrong before," Leland said to her, watching the liquid oozing from the plant with a raised eyebrow, "Not sure if you'd want something like that in the gardens..."

Ethan and Talbot, meanwhile, were perusing around the nursery at a slow pace. They stopped every once in awhile to look at a pretty plant, usually running (or flying) away when it started to creep them out. One particular scare made Talbot fly onto a high branch of a larger tree before vines from the tree started to grab at him, the bird managing to escape and flying back to his owner who patted the bird on the head.

"Great, eh? Boy I'm just getting the compliments today," Garrus replied with a grin, reaching into the diaper bag and handing Renton some cold milk to drink. "I think he'll be knocked out soon enough, hopefully he'll stay asleep for a bit. He always wakes up so early nowadays," he stated, watching the other kids on the playground play.

"Sure we can leave now. Sam should be fine on her own, well she's always fine on her own." Alex laughed some getting up to pet the cat. Sam purred at Alex and flicked her tail around. "Such a happy cat Sammy." she said.

"Yea don't let it go to your head, then you'll say something and fire will rain from the skies with your luck." Lillian said with a laugh.

"As for Renton, I think you're right. He'll probably go down soon enough."

-----------------------

Richard changed and walked back out as Alex said her piece.

"Eh I think we should bring her with us, never know what hijinks she'll get up to if left alone. I know I've come back to find her in places I never even imagined were accessible." Richard said as he picked up the cat and began to walk to the door.

"Like the time she ended up in your power suit to sleep or somehow ending up with one of my bras on her head. I think she's too smart for her own damn good." Alex said following Richard out. She closed the door and locked it then looked back at Richard. "So what car will we take today?" she asked.

"Just don't spend too long talking to the refrigerators,"

"I don't...hey!" Taryn pretended to be offended and frowned at Levi. It only lasted for a second though before she grinned. "They're not very good at conversations anyway." she replied. "And they tell horrible jokes." Taking the list out of her pocket Taryn tore the page in half and handed one part to Levi. "Here, it'll be faster if we split up." She tilted the half-sheet up and glanced at it. "Um, ignore the last thing." Taryn checked her pockets before remembering that she left the pen in the car. "I'll meet you in Aisle..." she glanced up at the giant hanging signs "...5."

"Agreed, very much so," Katie answered Leland as she stepped back from the strange plant and returned to Leland's side. "Hmm... let's see if there's something a little more... flowerlike, I guess, or something that could be of use to the Society." The two of them began walking around, Katie being careful not to touch anything that looked like it was poisonous. I may be able to control them, but getting poisoned? Don't wanna try that any time soon, she thought.

"Gotcha," Levi replied with a grin as he took one half of the shopping list. "See you there". With that, he headed over to where the store kept their shopping carts and secured one for himself. Reading through the list, Levi maneuvered his cart down to the correct aisle to begin looking for the first item on the list.

[hr]

After a decent amount of time cruising up and down the aisles, Levi managed to find everything on his half of the list. The cart now contained a variety of metal pieces, nuts, bolts, and other parts they would need to assemble Brian's weapon. Momentarily losing his bearings, he found his way to Aisle 5, where Taryn had established as their rendezvous point.

"Oh, eek, Katie you might want to stay away from this part of the nursery," Tommy told her, leading them away from the section of the deadlier plants and to a more normal selection of plants.

"Here, these are you're good ol' fashioned garden plants right here." Tommy said, motioning towards an arrangement of flower buds.

"Yay, non-deadly plants!" Leland said excitedly as Tommy led them to the safe section of the nursery, "Ah yes this is more like it. Plants that are in no way harmful and are still pretty to look at. Hey there Ethan how are yo- were you almost eaten by something?"

Ethan simply nodded his head, the top of his body covered in some sort of yellow slime. He explained that he was walking by a red plant that decided to try and eat him, barely making it out and losing his jacket. He then said he'd be outside by the car, being careful to stay away from all plants along the walkway.

"And that's why we don't wander off alone without a buddy," Leland said as he waved at his brother.

----

"I've been doing my best to not say anything that could turn out horribly. Keeping myself in check. Though I still find it odd that that happens...was I cursed as a child or something? I had never noticed it before until other Society members brought it up," Garrus replied as he thought it over, looking at Renton who was staring at both his parents as he chugged down the milk.

The small plastic basket Taryn was carrying was rather unwieldy. Several times she just barely avoided having it collide with a display case. After a few wrong turns and one very helpful associate, Taryn completed her half of the list. Plus a few, and only a few, extra items. Nothing big or expensive. She just happened to find a few things to put into her security system. And Taryn made sure not to talk to anything. After double checking the contents of her basket Taryn looked up at the aisle marker. '7...so I need to go...', she spun around, 'that way.' Taryn walked toward aisle 5, keeping a lookout for Levi as she moved.

Catching a glimpse of Taryn, Levi offered a brief wave and moved his cart around a rather indecisive shopper to meet up with her. The man gave him a passing glance, then did a double take, this gaze lasting longer than the first. Looks like we picked a good time to leave. In Taryn's hand was a somewhat loaded plastic basket, which looked awkward to carry. "Looks like you did good," he said with a slight smile. "And you might want to put that basket in here for now," he added, gesturing to his cart.

Jason stayed relatively behind the pack, slightly lost in his own thoughts as he roamed the store. Drowning out the talk of the rock star magician with his own eternal ramblings, Jason proceeded through the store, stopping at the more lethal plants in the aisle. He came across a pretty ordinary looking carnivorous plant that resembled a simple Venus fly-trap.

"Y'know, I've never actually seen one of these things work in real life." He murmured to himself, looking down at a hand momently before curiously reaching toward the plant, armor enveloping as a precaution.

"Careful Jay. Remember, these plants have been imbued with magical elements. We don't know what it might do." Erebus warned.

"I know, that just makes me even more curious." Jason replied anxiously as he reached for the plant's 'mouth' with the armored hand. As natured intended, the fly-trap's opening snapped shut as soon his finger came in contact. He smirked slightly as he looked on as nature took it's course.

"Cool. Aww, and it's suckling!" He said in surprise before attempting to pull his finger out. To his dismay, it was stuck.

"Oh Crap." He responded to himself, smirk vanishing as he pulled away from the plant. The more he pulled, the larger it grew in size.
