I was walking home from school today as I need the exercise. About half way home a car with several high school students in it drives by and a girl wearing large sunglasses leans out and yells, "Fat ass!". I had no idea who any of this girl was or why she would want to yell at me from a moving vehicle. I haven't offended or pissed off any one in the last year to my knowledge.

For discussion value have any of you ever been randomly yelled at my strangers?

A few times yes. I was on a walk one time and some guys in a car drove by, one of them yelling something at me. I couldn't tell what he said, but I assumed that he knew me.

I had a snowball thrown at my from a moving car.... in July. Now I know, since I live here, that Scotland isn't the warmest country in the world, but that's a bit extreme.
Anyway, they missed by a meter or more and sped off over the hill.

One day when walking home from the bus stop, some guys in a truck yelled "You f---ing sh--!" for no apparent reason. Never mentioned it to anyone, never saw them again. I can only assume they were mad the bus stopped traffic. (I live along a road, and not in a neighborhood, so the bus stops any vehicles in front of or behind it when it stops)

Don't listen to them, many people (especially girls) that age tend to be very insecure and do that to feel better about themselves, just don't give them the satisfaction of you reacting from it.
That's why they feel good about it.

I've been called "Ugly" on a couple of occasions back when I was a teenager by other teenagers, now I get grobed and yelled "nice ass" after.

Karma I guess...

Pretty often when I was young and started letting my hair grow long. Even had people spit towards me.
Problem solved itself when I grew up to be almost two meters tall. Also look pretty strong and aggressive in spite of being the opposite, so it's a plus.

Well, there's the possibility that she thought you should know that you are built like, say, John Candy. Also the possibility that people of a high schoolish age don't always have coherent reasons for doing and saying things. And finally the possibility that she was advertising.

Did she have the butt?

I was shouted at and called an emo when walking home from school, I don't even have the stereotypical look of an emo so I just assumed they were ignorant twats and walked on.

The chavs where I went to school threw eggs at us.

Though, to be fair, most of the rest of the school weren't exactly nice to them.

I think it's like anonymity on the web, being in a car makes kids even more dickish than usual. It's not uncommon to be bottled from passing cars here.

Yep, today when I was walking down a narrow footpath with roadworks, the girls coming the other way obviously took offence to the idea that they couldn't take up the whole path as a group if they wanted to pass. I hate people -_-

I'm not ashamed to say I've been one of those guys. My friends and I sometimes drive around at night shouting stuff at people.

Usually it's random noises, or in the case of a boy-girl couple, yelling "DO HER" much to their confusion.

We don't actually swear at people. Just make them go "What the hell?"

This happens more or less all the time to me or anybody brave enough to use the sidewalks in my city. It is something to be expected.

In general, teens don't know what they want or why they do what they do. They only have vague ideas of what they're expected to do. That girl screams at people because she thinks that's what she must do to stay relevant. Some people never realize that they are capable of determining their own desires and purposes, and carry on with this behavior as adults.

Pity them and the smallness of their world, and do what you can to help the children you know avoid this fate.

Well, a good few years ago I had a bunch of girls in a pink limo shouting something at me and my friends as we walked down the street. Unfortunately they all seemed to be shouting different things, so we couldn't really make out what they were trying to say. It must have been important though, because they came down the same street twice more and started shouting again.

It also happened a lot when I was in high-school, because there's a permanent gang-war going on between the high-schools in my area. It doesn't usually erupt into violence, but it does mean that if you're ever in uniform when the other school's bus is driving past they will shout all kinds of insults and profanities your way.

A few times when I was younger, not so much now. Except for the drunk guy who thought it would be hilarious to scare the living daylights out of me by yelling boo right in my face as I walked by. Asshole.

Also, two years ago during Winter there were two kids - around 10ish - throwing snowballs across the street onto the pavement[footnote]That's sidewalk for you yanks =)[/footnote] I was walking on. When one of the snowballs almost hit me I showed them my middle finger without even looking at them. They where all, "She did the fuck-you, she did the fuck-you!" (Even funnier in Swedish.) They then threw another snowball at me but missed. Kind of asked for that one though =P
