Hello Escpaist.

Lets get down to it, have you ever been playing a game, reading a book, or watching a movie from a franchise you love, only to be completly taken out of it by your knowledge of the series? Lets say for example, your reading a Batman comic when you just stop and say, "Bullsh*t! The Dark Knight would never do that!"

The most recent one for me has got to be the marine campign for AVP 2010. Speificly the part when:
Teqiula is hived up and wants to be shot. However before the rookie can put a bullet in her head, the android says, "We can remove the parasite with surgery."

My reaction: "Ummmm... no. You can't. We established this, you can't remove a xeno once it's inside it's host. It realises what your trying to do and bursts immediatly."

Another good example is in the end when you, the android and Teqiula are in cryopods, getting off planet.

My thoughts: "Why hasn't Teqiula bursted yet? You can slow the things down in cryosleep, but you can't stop them. And you really can't stop them once they have gotten right to the skin layer. What is this garbage?!"

So anyway Escapist, share your stories.

Fallout 3: What?! The GECK isn't some magical terriforming device! In Fallout 2 it was just a briefcase with water, dirt, and seeds in it!

EDIT: I must have misinterpreted Fallout 2.
After checking the wiki I discovered that Fallout 3 is right in regards to the GECK.
Well... I learned something today...

so many times this kinda stuff has happened to me.

especially when reading something that has been done by several people over it's existence.

For instance, in Agent X for the first several issues Alex is a pretty nice guy under the surface, but then he suddenly becomes this swearing murderous straight up asshole. But then the original writer came back and I was like "yay" =3

Halo: Reach until I learned more details about the backstory.

Anyone who hasn't read Halsey's Journal, but did read the Fall of Reach, and then played Reach, will HATE the ending.

Whats wrong with the ending? I thought that it was fine... is there something I am missing?

A lot of the 40k literature makes me want to get a red pen and go "NO! You can't do this" e.g The latest Ultramarines codex. I wouldn't say the literature is great I just think I'd enjoy it more if I didn't know anything about the setting or 40k racial characteristics.

Then I realise that I'm whining about a setting that is not supposed to be taken too seriously...still it hurts seeing hundreds of my favourite races (Chaos, Orks, Dark Eldar, Eldar) getting stomped in books by one ultrasmurf (slight exaggeration).

EDIT- Also Mr Houdini Splitter here:

Kick-Ass, I appreciate that it was a well made film, but as a fan of the comic, the ending wussed out big time, ruined it for me.

Out of all the stuff Fallout 3 got wrong you choose the one thing they got right to complain about? Yes, the GECK IS a magical terraforming device. It's a very compact one, but it's designed, succesfully, to turn a radioactive wasteland into lush, fertile, healthy land again, and not through years and years of hard work planting the seeds individually, by being a super device that did it for you, quickly.

The end of The Fall Of Reach book and the Reach game take place at the same time... in the book, Cortana is already on the Pillar of Autumn, and the PoA doesn't stop on Reach after battle- it just instantly makes the jump to Halo.

Reach retconned that by saying that not only did the PoA dock on Reach (reasonable, a quick diversion) but Cortana was also on Reach- which would have completely RUINED the ending of the Fall of Reach.

In Halsey's Journal, though, it reveals that Cortana IS on the PoA, and only a fragment of her is on Reach studying the artifact. What Noble 6 does is reunite the fragment with her core on the PoA.

This creates 3 story fanbases. Those that have only played the games, who have a complete and whole story; those that have read all the books, the journal, and played the games, and completely understand the ENTIRE story; and those that have read the books, played the games, but not read the journal, and are left with a big "wtf?"

The game and book were much different. I didn't have much of an issue with it, but I can see why plenty of people did. The journal clarified it, but not many read it, since it came with the special editions only.

The way I see it, Bungie did it to make the game fun. And I have no issue with that. Also the fact that they said those exact words, so I was kind of expecting something like it to happen...

OT: Fallout 3, for the reasons someone stated above.

The GECK is not some magical paradise maker, its a case containing fresh water and seeds.

My god, Watchmen. I hated the movie. Absolutely hated it. All because I kept pointing out flaws and exaggerations (They do NOT have super strength!). And I called bullshit on the ending. Decent movie, crap adaptation (for me) that ruined it.

Mass Effect 2 (especially its DLC).

All the times my conversation options were limited to "being an asshole" despite choosing the Paragon path. And don't even get me started on the instances where Shepard would say something completely out of character without at least giving me a chance to choose a dialog option.

While we are on that, the retcon of the way guns work. Ammo clips aren't progress, it was regressing. And why were some squad mates not wearing armor? Especially in environments exposed to Space.

Just need to clarify... did you quote the right post there?

It looks like youre talking about Halo but the quote is talking about X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

As someone pointed out, I think you meant to quote me- and to explain, Halo's story was always praised- by fans, writers, and the creators alike- that there was only ONE canon. There were some issues, but book, comic, movie, and game were all the same universe. That's why so many fans were pissed.
