One thing I noticed after firing up COD 2 a few days ago is that game developers seem to have very little scope in thinking up new scinarios for WW2 shooters.

Most games seem to follow the American's through France and the pacific, the Russian's through Stalingrad, and the British through North Africa, but there is so much more to World War II than this.

German campaigns. The germans had a huge deal of success and met a huge deal of resistance in the early stages of the war:
- France
- Netherlands
- Poland
- Norway
- Crete
Most of these, especially Crete, would be a fresh alternative to the run of the mill campaigns that seem to be reheated and served to us dressed up like something new.

As well as german campaigns there are many others worth looking at.
- French defence of south france from Italians.
- British troops operating in Burma
- US invasion of West Germany
- SAS in Norway
- Free French rebels

There is a whole tapestry of largely ignored events and campaigns that a games developer could jump on, and develope something truely fresh, original and interresting for the player.

I'm waiting for a POW / Concentration Camp Escape game.

Or one from the point of view of a German soldier. Not an evil Nazi, but a guy just doing his job in the army to keep food on the table for his wife and child.

Prisoner of war was pretty good. Old now, but good. And they made a decent game of the great escape film. They're both old though.

Yeah, they made a game of the great escape for ps2 or xbox origional or something. i gorget which XD

And i would love to see on from the point of view of a german or japanese soldier. That would give a whole new persective in the ww2 shooter.
I think it would be great to play as a pilot at pearl harbour.

Speaking of this, The Saboteur looks like it's gonna be pretty cool. I'm pretty excited about it.

Not an FPS, but Aces of the Deep was played entirely from the perspective of a German U-boat Captain during WWII. It's portrayed pretty evenhandedly, but the German Navy generally comes off better then the rest of the German military in general.

One of the campaigns in Company of Heros: Opposing fronts was played as the Germans during Operation Market Garden.

Playing on the losing side isn't a good gaming decision. When gamers get very angry when they die in a multiplayer match how do you think they will feel when they are fighting an inevitable defeat written in stone by history? Also, Canadians participation would be cool. Fighting the Ortona battle would be thrilling. Boobie trapped doors, vicious house to house combat.

Germans weren't the losing side in Crete, Norway, France or the Netherlands. I thought it would be interresting to play a shooter from the point of view of a german infantryman in the middle of a full swing Blitzkrieg.

Another campaign i forgot to mention was the allied invasion of Sicily and Italy.

What about Iron Hearts? It is an in depth RTS, you could make the world a Nazi heaven, or run by the woolen fist of the New Zealanders!

British Campaign: After warmongering Britain into WWI, do it a second time against THE SAME NATION! Become British PM as Winston Churchill: the greatest warmonger in recent history and the bane of peaceful men.
what BS are you going on about? WW1 was started when a serbian assassinated an austrian, and Britain decided to honour its defensive pact with france.

in WW2, Germany started that one, and not only was Winston on the defensive end, but in the 1930's, he supported the Idea to have british/canadian agents assassinate Hitler before he got out of control.

OT: while you do make some interesting suggestions, I fail to see any of these games being made in the near future, especially the game which would be based on German victory, as the Germans are commonly regarded as the "evil" side in WW2, and there would be too much public outcry against a game depicting the glorious Nazi victory, whether the game was based on the Nazis or not.
