I would love to play a game where I get to be a Nazi!

Hitler had a noble goal.

Does not compute.

In all seriousness, Saboteur seemed like it was going on that track. For a while it seemed to have fallen off the face of the earth, but... hey presto! Google search reveals 12/8/2009 pre-order shipping date. Of course that's not exactly official information, but still.

Make a game where you play as the Nazis. I don't care how controversial it is, if you want to squeeze any originality out of the world wars, that's what you'll have to do.

Or alternatively, throw in vampires and demons with the Nazis. Oh wait, I guess people already did that one. [http://pc.ign.com/objects/802/802866.html]

I personally like WWII games as long as they are historically accurate, which is why i liked CoD:WaW. one thing i have not seen from a WWII game is anything from the perspective of an Australian soldier. maybe i haven't played enough WWII games to see this but i think some Australian offensives would make for some good gameplay.

LASERS!

Ok, In all seriousness i think (as much as the medal of honour games blow) Medal of hour airbourne was a step in the right direction. The game itself was awful, but at least they were thinking[/I].

CoD games are moving away from WW2, thank god.

British Campaign: After warmongering Britain into WWI, do it a second time against THE SAME NATION! Become British PM as Winston Churchill: the greatest warmonger in recent history and the bane of peaceful men.
Now, I don't want to be rude, but it sounds like you've got a chip on your shoulder. I don't think that Churchill was a warmonger as you claim he was. I think he saw Hitler as a genuine threat to England and the rest of Europe, and he was outspoken that we should not trust or make deals with him. He led England through one of the darkest times she has faced in recent history and I remember him kindly for it. I know that the odds you will reply to this are quite minute, but I would like to start some sort of decent discussion, and as the man said "Never, Never, Never, Never Give Up".

And I just realised that my profile pic is Churchill with a gun. Seems fitting.

A lot of those things have in fact been done before. Unfortunately, a lot of them were in fairly obscure games.

how about they take the frostbite engine from BF:BC, take the paratroop idea from MoH: Airborne and make it work, add in a nice touch of RTS and make some missions from the german persective, and to top it off throw in some ultra-realistic russian sniping levels. they can make the levels from all countries and locations. that might work, right?

I'm waiting for a POW / Concentration Camp Escape game.
Aint one already?

The Great Escape or something?
Isn't that a film?
I haven't heard of a game yet.
Here's the second game. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Escape_(2003_video_game)]
There was an earlier one for the Commodore64

On-topic: There will never be such a game, well not from any major developer. There's a chance that there are game developer laws that say German WW2 soldiers should only be shown as evil bastards that would kick, rape and kill a dog before setting fire to an orphanage.

One thing I noticed after firing up COD 2 a few days ago is that game developers seem to have very little scope in thinking up new scinarios for WW2 shooters.

Most games seem to follow the American's through France and the pacific, the Russian's through Stalingrad, and the British through North Africa, but there is so much more to World War II than this.

German campaigns. The germans had a huge deal of success and met a huge deal of resistance in the early stages of the war:
- France
- Netherlands
- Poland
- Norway
- Crete
Most of these, especially Crete, would be a fresh alternative to the run of the mill campaigns that seem to be reheated and served to us dressed up like something new.

As well as german campaigns there are many others worth looking at.
- French defence of south france from Italians.
- British troops operating in Burma
- US invasion of West Germany
- SAS in Norway
- Free French rebels

There is a whole tapestry of largely ignored events and campaigns that a games developer could jump on, and develope something truely fresh, original and interresting for the player.
ok for one the playing as the germans would be a godaweful idea because me (american), the Brits, and the Ruskies arent going to line up outside to get a game where we get to kill our countryman and fight for the idea that jews should all be tortured then killed (along with gypies, cripples, retarded people, and many many others)

most likely a studio would fuck the whole SAS and french rebel stealth up and just make it somewhat like splinter cell done except badly (i liked splinter cell all of them)

but everything else might stand a chance but when it boils down to it in a WWII game you dont care where you are or whether you are fighting in France or Italy because you are just going to killing the enemy and for me all they have to do is make interesting locations to fight and thats good enough on the creativity part

this doesnt really have anything to do with this thread but im a sniper in pretty much everygame i play so GAME MAKERS STOP MAKING US HAVE TO BE THE ONE TO ADVANCE

In spite of Velvet Assassin, I still say that WWII meets Assassin Creed would rock so freaking hard.
