The Crystal Method has some bassy songs (my favorite is High Roller, but it doesn't really have a "bassline", just a lot of bass notes). Name of the Game has a nice bassline. Also Pearl Jam.

picking out the bassline does sometimes take a bassist's ear, but you WILL know the song is wrong without the bassline, even if you can't exactly pick it out

I have real life experience of that, turns out you really DO need your bassist at practice or you end up sounding like crap.
yes, guitars and drums do not mesh well at all by themselves.

OK, I finally remembered why I started this thread, The single most juicy song(?) + vid I have seen, ever. Pogo sticks - Animusic, watch it, is entertaining.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vh_D0G3k9Sk&feature=related

If that didn't amaze you, and you haven't been exposed to the glory of animusic before, I suggest you watch this, which does have a bass line, and gives me chills. I have never been so affected by a youtube vid :p

Agree with those who've suggested Iron Maiden; their chief (but not sole) songwriter is their bassist, which tells you something. If I had to suggest an album of theirs it'd be A Matter of Life and Death simply beacuse I love that album far more than any man should love an inanimate object.

Fun fact: Steve Harris has to chalk up his fingers before each performance to avoid drawing blood by the end of the set, due to the way he plays bass.

Megadeth - Peace Sells But Who's Buying
Bracewar - Friends Like These

First one may have been said already. Also, I tend to agree with the people who said Primus, as Les Claypool is pretty much the undisputed master of bass guitar.

It's not really 'bass' but this band sure knows how to write some sexy rifts and is pretty damn dirty at making a drum/guitar combo sound so dynamic: The Black Keys.

I might be missing the point though. So excuse me if this is not quite what you were going for. I would also say, Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes (they didn't use bass guitar until Elephant and beyond).

However, if you are talking about drums via the double bass reference, then that would be in the Metal category and all I can say is Nightwish, but that is only because I am not one for Metal.

Edit: I also have to give a shout out to The Red Hot Chilli Willies, as they were mentioned, and are freaking awesome. Also, Rage Against The Machine is ridiculous, just saw them live at Lolla.

Chris Adler for Lamb of God as some sick double bass work
Vitek for Decapitated was even better.
I don't think he was talking about drums though.

speaking of the weather report... well I don't think it is beefy and it is for solo bass but "Portrait of Tracy" by Jaco Pastorius is just amazing really. The first time I heard it was probably one of the most awe inspiring moments of my life. All of Jaco Pastorius's stuff is amazing though.

blackeyed blonde, aeroplane, salute to kareem- red hot chili peppers. Out of all of the chili's songs these are the ones that spring to mind with awesome bass.
